Lies and Desperation

I saw this on Facebook and decided to fact check it. It took all day, so y’all will have to wait for my analysis of last night’s debate.

ITEM #1: “Hate groups rose by 55%.

FACT CHECK: This figure was cherry-picked from a report by the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), then misrepresented; it actually said the 55% was an increase in “white nationalist hate groups since 2017.” The SPLC’s own graph shows there was no significant change in the number of hate groups during the Trump administration.

ITEM #2: “Hate crime increased by 19.5%.”

FACT CHECK: The FBI publishes their annual hate crime statistics, but says that, for various reasons, they do not consider year-to-year comparisons meaningful. Nevertheless, let’s break them down for 2016 (the last year Obama was in office), 2020 (the last year Trump was in office), and 2022 (the most recent numbers available for the Biden administration).

The FBI recorded a 31.5% increase in single motivation hate crimes over the four years of Trump’s tenure, then a 40.1% increase during Biden’s first two years. Anyone who has not been in a coma knows there has clearly been an increase in hate crimes. There have also been shifts up and down in their motivations. However, none of these have anything to do with Trump.

ITEM #3: “The debt increased by 39%.

FACT CHECK: It was actually 33%. Besides noting the fake inflation of the numbers, let us look at the historical record to understand the significance of the numbers. On the graph below, I have added (in white) the actual dollar amounts of each president’s increase. The difference between these amounts and the percentages is dramatic. I have also added the stats for the Biden-Harris increase, which has exceeded Trump’s in total dollars over a shorter period of time.

ITEM #4: “The trade deficit increased by 21%.

FACT CHECK: It was actually 15.28%. So again with the fake inflation. And again, we need to compare Trump’s record with that of the Biden-Harris administration. During Trump’s 4 years, the trade deficit increased by $83.06 Billion. During the current administration’s 3.5 years, it has increased by a staggering $344.73 Billion.

ITEM #5: “Net job loss was 2.9 million.”

FACT CHECK: This figure is meaningless. Donald Trump is not responsible for COVID.

ITEM #6: “COVID killed more Americans than WW2.”

FACT CHECK: This figure is meaningless. Donald Trump is not responsible for COVID.

ITEM #7: “Highest debt to GDP ratio since WW2.”

FACT CHECK: AGAIN … Trump is not responsible for COVID. But if you care to point a finger at the recent president who had the worst record on this metric … look for Barack Hussein Obama.

ITEM #8: “Incited an attack on our capitol.”

FACT CHECK: This steaming pile of donkey doo does not deserve my time. We all know who was behind the January 6th debacle.

ITEM #9: “Stole classified documents.”

FACT CHECK: Following a year long investigation, Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report said the highly classified documents about sensitive national security matters had been “willfully” (and carelessly) stored by Joe Biden in his personal garage for years after he left public office.

ITEM #10: “$3.8 billion diverted from the military for the wall I said Mexico would pay for.”

FACT CHECK: Challenges to Trump’s attempt to bypass the Democrat, anti-wall Congress to get funding for the border wall ended in split decisions. The 9th Circuit Court ruled he had no right to do it; the 5th Circuit Court ruled he did. As for Mexico paying for it, I’m pretty sure he meant that the money we saved on dealing with their failure to enforce their own southern border would amount to more than the cost of the wall.
