GRAMMY NOTES: Anyone else remember the gas crisis during the Carter era? They turned the heat off at my job. We were allowed to stay home, but only if we could afford to not get paid. I worked at a school. It was Christmas break. As in, no students. As in, very little work to do. But we Band of Brothers (and Sisters) who needed the paycheck had to come in every day. Mostly, we just shivered and complained about the management. But hey, it was tough to do any typing or filing while wearing mittens! I worked there for a year, but the only time I ever saw the principal was during that week, when he would stroll through our chilly offices each day … in shirt sleeves no less … to “buck up the troops.” His gossipy (and pissed off) secretary made sure that everybody in the building knew that his office was heated.
