TRADE: Trump has signed an executive order ending the de minimis exemption that allows China and Hong Kong to ship goods valued at $800 or less into the U .S. without being subject to duties and taxes. U.S. Customs says it has processed about 4 million such shipments every day. Trump says they’re using it to ship fentanyl so it has to stop. Starting today, the United States will be collecting a duty of either 30 percent of the value of packages at $800 or less shipped through the international postal network or $25 per item. On June 1, that rate will increase to $50 per package.
