On July 13, 2015, less than a month after Donald Trump first announced his intention to run for president, Mexican-American singer and activist Rick Fuentes (better known as Rick Santillan) held up a photo of Hitler and said in Spanish, “This man is Hitler. This man is Hitler. What he is saying is exactly what Hitler said in the 1930s.” Within 48 hours, the video clip had gone viral on social media and been widely reported by U.S. outlets like The Washington Post and HuffPost.

On July 18, 2015, the first U.S. Politician – Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-IL) – said on MSNBC, “The parallels are frightening… the demonization of entire groups.

On August 6, 2015, the first major op-ed appeared in The New York Times. Written by columnist Timothy Egan, it said, “Trump’s rhetoric echoes the early rise of Hitler.”

In January 2016, Rep. John Lewis said Trump reminded him of George Wallace and “1930s Europe.”

On March 21, 2016, Hillary Clinton framed Trump’s rhetoric as a direct parallel to the rise of fascism.

On August 16, 2017, Rep. James Clyburn likened Trump’s 2016 rise to Hitler’s ascent in 1933.

On January 1, 2019, Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) warned that “Americans, particularly black Americans, can’t afford to make that same mistake about the harm that could be done by a man named Hitler or a man named Trump.”

On March 19, 2019, Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), then-House Judiciary Committee Chairman, compared former President Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric and use of executive power to Adolf Hitler’s tactics.

On July 18, 2019, during an interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Beto O’Rourke compared Trump’s July 17 rally in Greenville, North Carolina, to a Nazi rally.

On July 30, 2019, a post-debate interview with CNN’s Van Jones, DNC Chair Tom Perez compared Trump’s July 17 rally in Greenville, North Carolina, to the Nuremberg rallies.

On September 26, 2020, during an MSNBC Interview with Stephanie Ruhle, Joe Biden compared Trump to Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels, accusing him of repeating lies about Biden’s record until they become “common knowledge.”

On September 2, 2022, Joe Biden described the MAGA Republican philosophy underpinning Trump as “semi-fascism.”

On September 23, 2022, Hillary Clinton explicitly likened Trump’s September 17 rally in Youngstown, Ohio to Hitler’s speeches.

In March 2023, Gen. Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Trump, reportedly told journalist Bob Woodward he considered Trump to be “the most dangerous person to this country” and “fascist to the core.”

On November 8, 2023, Clinton directly compared Trump to Hitler, noting that “Hitler was duly elected” and warning that if Trump got a second term, his “dictatorial, authoritarian tendencies” would be “the end of our country as we know it.”

On June 27, 2024, Kamala Harris said Trump is a “threat to our democracy and our fundamental freedoms.”

On August 16, 2024, Nancy Pelosi said Donald Trump “sounds like Mussolini or Hitler in the 1930s, talking about ‘enemy of the people’ and ‘fake news media’.”

On October 21, 2024, Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) called Trump “another Hitler.”

On October 23, 2024, during remarks at a CNN Town Hall, Kamala Harris again called Trump a “fascist” who was “deeply troubling and incredibly dangerous.”

On October 24, 2024, the Biden Campaign and the DNC put out multiple messages calling Trump “unstable, unfit, and dangerous” because he (allegedly) admires Hitler.
