AMERICAN HISTORY: On March 16, 1968, during the Vietnam War, U.S. Army soldiers hunting for Viet Cong fighters and sympathizers killed more than 300 unarmed Vietnamese civilians, mostly women, children, and elderly men, in what became known as the My Lai massacre.

IRAN: While U.S. strikes over the past weeks have sharply reduced Iran’s fighting force, Tehran still retains the ability to threaten ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz with smaller weapons. Thankfully, some of the affected countries affected are joining the United States in patrolling the strategic waterway.

IRAQ: On March 14, U.S. officials urged all American citizens in Iraq to leave immediately due to threats of terrorist attacks by Iran-aligned militias. They urged citizens to especially stay away from the embassy in Baghdad and the consulate general in Erbil.

VENEZUELA: On March 14, 2026, the U.S. Embassy in Venezuela raised its flag, seven years to the day since officials lowered it for the final time after the U.S. broke off relations with Venezuela. The flag-raising was largely symbolic, as the embassy building needs renovations.
