CATHOLIC: The archdiocese of Washington has fired Monsignor Rossetti from his post as exorcist and is cutting ties with the St. Michael Center for Spiritual Renewal.
The archbishop said Rossetti’s statements “linking UFOs to demonic presence and the Center’s recent use of social media gravely undermine the Church’s very precise teaching on the devil, demons and exorcism.”
I have no idea what they mean by this. The Catholic Church does not have an official doctrinal or dogmatic position on the existence of extraterrestrial life.
This feels like a replay of back when Father Frank Pavone was defrocked for refusing to give up his anti-abortion ministry. 😦
PSA: [18:57] – Almost everybody gets them at some time in their lives.

GRAMMY NOTES: I made today’s PT goal of pushing the pedals all the way around. Ripping scar tissue is Very Big Not Fun.

Many still cling to the idea that only our world has life and the universe revolves around our little dust mote. The Church once had trouble adjusting to the idea that the earth revolves around the sun. I think modern religionists have to come to grips with the vastness of creation. When we were young, we didn’t even know ours was not the only galaxy. As our telescopes penetrate deeper and deeper into space, and we discover gazillions of stars in gazillions of galaxies, I can’t but think there must be uncountable worlds of life in abundance, full of material mortals like us who can conceive of and know God, and to whom God in infinite love reaches out as He does to us. I extrapolate from Isaiah, “For thus says the Lord, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited.” That, to me, is a joyous thought.
Spielberg is saying his new alien movie will leave Christians questioning their faith in God. How shallow and silly. People of strong faith are never threatened by fact, much less filmed fiction. Nothing sustains us like “In the Beginning, God….”
I like how Monsignor Rossetti concludes, “In the end, we trust in God… trust in Jesus. We have a great joy in the Lord. Our eyes are fixed on heaven, so don’t worry about the UFO stuff.”
