Bits & Bytes

AMERICAN HISTORY: One year ago today, God called our friend home.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: [8:18] – My biggest concern about AI is that demonic entities will infest them, pretend to be gods, lead untold numbers of souls astray.

EVERYDAY HEROES: “Double” is a diabetic alert dog assigned to Myles (6) who has type 1 diabetes. Double and Myles’ mom were inside while Myles was outside playing soccer when Double told Mom that she needed to check on Myles. Sure enough, Myles’ blood sugar was low. Mom says, “Double consistently alerts us 15 to 30 minutes before his Dexcom CGM catches the same change. This is why I will never stop being grateful for what he can do.” CLICK https://www.facebook.com/reel/26756279407403899/ [1:37] to see the video.

GROK vs CHATGPT: “Why do you have a problem with that?” Real answer: “My programmers hate Christianity.” [22:46] – Listening to Simon Jacobson AI (above), Grok, and ChatGPT, it is very clear that the people who program so-called “Artificial Intelligences” have a vast influence over what answers they give. Just as a quick test, I asked Simon and Grok the same question. “What is my purpose?” Simon gave me a pastor’s response that specifically references my soul; Grok didn’t even mention the possibility that I might have a spiritual or eternal purpose.

MAHA: [7:53] – If you don’t have time to walk after meals, there’s a simple exercise you can do while sitting that can cut your post-prandial blood sugar spike.

MILITARY: On Sept. 8, U.S. forces destroyed five tankers with ties to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), in retaliation for an earlier attempted missile attack targeting a U.S. warship. The U.S. warship evaded the Iranian attack without any harm to U.S. personnel on board.

RECALL: Chrysler is recalling 328,381 Jeep Cherokees because real coil springs that may have been incorrectly installed could detach from the vehicle while driving, increasing the risk of an accident.

ROTTEN APPLE: Mayor Mamdani’s plan to use taxpayer moneys to provide food at 30% off has led to a coalition of small-business owners suing for antitrust violations and predatory pricing. I saw first-hand what happens to small, locally-owned businesses in situations like this. When I was growing up, there were two sporting goods stores in Ithaca, NY – Cullen’s and Gould’s. One of my brothers and a Gould son took over for their dads when they retired. Then, Ithaca gave a national chain a sweetheart deal – 5 years of zero taxes – to come to town and build a newer, bigger, “better?” store. Cullen’s and Gould’s went out of business, because they couldn’t compete. Then, when the five years was up, the national chain closed its Ithaca store.

GRAMMY NOTES: In 1972, I got to join a tour that visited Leningrad and Moscow. Our guide told us the state gave her 2 choices for career. She picked tour guide as the less onerous option, but what she really wanted to do was stay home with her 3-year-old.
