BACK THE BLUE: And purge the bad actors! – Last May, Jennifer Combs was arrested by Trinidad Police and spent a night in jail in May after a Facebook post raised concerns about bacteria and problems with Trinidad’s drinking water. The felony charge against her was later dropped, while environmental officials ultimately confirmed problems with the city’s water system. After investigating and finding almost 20 problems with the Trinidad Police Department, the state stripped the city of its right to operate its own police department. The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office will be taking over from now on.

Some time ago, I forget when exactly, I started saying the following prayer at the beginning of each day – “Eternal Father, I offer You this day all of my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings for the intentions of Mary’s Immaculate Heart. For the sake of her Seven Sorrows, have mercy on us and on the whole world.”
I’m blown away by this video, because I had never heard of these promises before!

EVERYDAY HEROES: On the night of April 12, 1977, Delta Flight 1080 left San Diego for what should have been a routine flight to Los Angeles. Instead, just after takeoff, the L-1011 began trying to pitch itself dangerously nose-up. The left elevator had jammed in the full nose-up position.
Captain Jack McMahan pushed the controls fully forward, but the aircraft was still fighting him and came frighteningly close to a stall in cloud. There was no cockpit warning telling the crew what had actually failed, and the normal controls weren’t giving them enough authority to solve it.
So McMahan started experimenting. He discovered that by reducing thrust on the two wing-mounted engines while keeping the center engine producing much more power, he could use the engines themselves to help force the nose down. It was an improvised solution to a failure the crew had never encountered before. The cabin crew even moved the 41 passengers toward the front of the aircraft in an attempt to shift the center of gravity forward.
For more than 100 miles, the crew wrestled the crippled TriStar through bad weather before eventually bringing it and all aboard safely into Los Angeles. McMahan was later awarded the FAA’s Distinguished Service Award, while the incident led to changes to the L-1011’s elevator system and operating procedures.
