Bits & Bytes

DOUBLE STANDARDS: “Native American advocacy groups” pushed the Washington Redskins to change their name and logo, which they claimed was offensive. The descendants of Blackfeet Chief John Two Guns White Calf want them restored, because they honor their ancestor and preserve his legacy.

EVERYDAY HEROES: Ebro Ahmed, of Saint Paul, Minnesota, was standing outside a convenience store when he saw a school bus rolling down the street with its flashers on and the doors open. He looked into the bus and saw that the driver appeared to be having a seizure. CLICK https://x.com/ABCNewsLive/status/2112956598918517176 [:28] to see what he did.

MIDTERMS: CLICK https://x.com/DefiantLs/status/2114175361277898899 [1:01] to watch what I wish I could say is satire, but I’m fairly certain is not.

NEW YUCK STATE: A federal judge has just struck down New York’s stupid ban on body armor, saying it’s protected under the Second Amendment. As Joel Abbott noted, New York legislators wanted to ensure that “when a criminal with a full-auto Glock and Level IIIA plates mugged [law-abiding citizens’ in an alley, the perp could be certain that their prey was defenseless.”

OBAMA: The man responsible for the ugliest not-a-presidential-library says people should vote Democrat because Trump’s “got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened up a Cheesecake Factory.”

PORTLAND: The Justice Department is investigating a heated confrontation that erupted at a women’s professional soccer game after roughly 20 fans revealed “XX-XY Athletics” shirts and unfured a “Save Women’s Sports” banner. Multiple videos show the peaceful protesters were verbally and physically assaulted repeatedly by pro-trans activists. Security responded by removing the peaceful protesters. Federal officials say the incident raises potential First Amendment and viewpoint discrimination concerns.

SCIENCE: People lose their windpipes due to tracheal cancer, severe intubation stenosis, crushing trauma, or congenital birth defects. Because windpipes are such a complex organ, attempts to replace them have mostly failed, until now. The article below goes into detail about how doctors in South Korea finally found a solution.

GRAMMY NOTES: I was looking through some of my old sketchbooks recently and decided to frame a drawing I did a couple of years ago when I was taking a colored pencil course. Dearest hung it up on Sunday. It makes me happy.

One of my grand-daughters asked me recently if I thought my art could ever save my life. I told her I think it already has. Being disabled and in constant pain makes it very easy to fall into feeling like I’m a useless and expensive burden to myself and everyone around me. My faith tells me this is not true AT ALL, but the feelings need help, which I get from my art.

It makes me feel good about myself to look at something beautiful and know that I made it. Plus, the making is always a period of time during which I am NOT thinking about myself or my body. 🙂
