The Ash Wednesday Post

This is normally the time Chrissy would post some significant thoughts on Catholicism and the church. Unfortunately being an alleged member of the Church of the Nazarene we don’t observe Lent. We mostly do the biggies like Easter and Christmas. The only reason for my membership is as a shining example that God has a twisted sense of humor.

Ashes to Ashes

If there ever is a day of the year when you can spot Catholics at a glance, Ash Wednesday is it. It is the one time when Catholics literally wear their faith on their foreheads. In fact, Masses on Ash Wednesday are better attended than Masses on most holy days, except Christmas.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent for Catholics. The ashes we receive on our forehead in the shape of a cross serve as an outward sign of our sinfulness and need for penance. The ashes also symbolize our mortality, a reminder that one day we will die and our bodies will return to dust. Hence the traditional words, “Remember that thou art dust and unto dust thou shalt return.”

The tradition of receiving ashes has its origins in the Old Testament, where sinners performed acts of public penance. It was Pope Urban II who in the 11th century recommended that all Catholics take part in the practice of receiving ashes on Ash Wednesday. In the 12th century it became customary that the ashes used on Ash Wednesday were made by burning the previous year’s palm branches.

Ash Wednesday is also a day of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. According to Church law, Catholics older than the age of 14 are supposed to abstain from meat. In addition, those between the ages of 18 and 59, not including pregnant or nursing mothers, should eat only one full meal. Smaller amounts of food, not as much as a full meal, may be eaten in the morning and either at lunchtime or dinner, depending on when you eat your full meal.

The only thing that rankles me is seeing a flaming hypocrite like Nazi Pelousy walking around showing off the ashes on her botox-swollen forehead.

Her father is the devil

The Lord denounces lying as the work of the devil: “You are of your father the devil,… there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” – John 8:44

Worker of Mercy: Educate the Ignorant

Classical Theist - some products

Dr. Scott M. Sullivan was raised in a loving Evangelical home, but lost his intellectual faith in the truth of Christianity in early adulthood. For the next twenty years, he was heavily involved in martial arts — particularly kickboxing — with some college classes on the side.

Sullivan is now a devout Catholic with both Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Philosophy. His ministry — Classical Theist — is devoted to using modern technologies to make intellectually sound arguments for Catholicism and Christianity accessible to ordinary folks.

Fascinating interview with Sullivan – EWTN’s Life on the Rock [40:24]

Medjugorje Christmas Messages

2015_12 25 Medj ms via Marija

Our Lady gives a message via Marija once a month on the 25th.  She gives a message to Jakov Colo once a year on Christmas Day.  Below is her message to Jakov this year.

“Dear children! All these years that God permits me to be with you are a sign of the immeasurable love which God has for each one of you and a sign of how much God loves you.

“Little children, how many graces the Most High has given to you and how many graces he desires to give to you. But, little children, your hearts are closed and live in fear, and do not permit Jesus to have His love and His peace overcome your hearts and to begin to reign in your lives.

“To live without God means to live in darkness and never to come to know the Father’s love and His care for each of you. Therefore, little children, today in a special way pray to Jesus that as of today your life may experience a new birth in God and become a light which will radiate from within you, and thus that you may become witnesses of God’s presence in the world to every person who lives in darkness.

“Little children, I love you and daily intercede before the Most High for you. Thank you for having responded to my call.”

The Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy

On Dec 8, 2015, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Pope Francis inaugurated the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the closing of Vatican II. The Year of Mercy will close on Nov 20, 2016, the Solemnity of Christ the King.

During this special time, Pope Francis calls us to be profound witnesses to mercy, in particular by practicing the Works of Mercy.  There are fourteen, divided into Spiritual and Corporal. I hope to highlight them throughout the Jubilee Year.

For the record, I made this graphic not because I hate Democrat Catholics, but because I want them to wake up to their sin and repent before it’s too late.
