Support Professor Carol Swain

The Tolerance Police, who have taken it upon themselves to destroy the peace and prosperity of anyone who doesn’t agree with them on every jot and tittle, have targeted Professor Carol Swain of Vanderbilt University.

You can sign a petition supporting Swain @ http://citizengo.org/en/sy/31026-protect-academic-freedom-professor-carol-swain

2015_11 16 Petition to support Carol Swain

Swain was a school dropout and teenage mother. Today, she is a professor of law and political science at Vanderbilt University and the author of numerous award-winning books. She has even been cited by the Supreme Court.

Swain is a both black and female, which should score her a +2 in the Leftist’s Privileged Classes Lottery. Unfortunately, she is also a politically conservative Christian who makes no secret of her personal beliefs, which earns her a -2,000,000 in the LPC Lottery.

Swain says all but one of the allegations listed against her in the petition are lies. The one that has a smidgen of truth is that she did post part of student’s disrespectful letter to her on her Facebook page and included a link to that student’s public Facebook.

Swain has since deleted that post and says, “Maybe I shouldn’t have done that, but the student contacted me. My point in showing it was to show the level of disrespect and what I have to put up with at Vanderbilt University with this person saying I was a disgrace.”

“It’s something that has changed in the student body, that they think they can control what people do, not just inside the classroom, but outside the classroom,” Swain said.

I see two ironies in this situation.

One, I was graduated way back in 1976 and I endured repeated ridicule of my beliefs by professors, teaching assistants, and classmates. It’s obvious the problem is much, much worse now, but I’m not seeing conservative Christians trying to destroy anyone’s reputation or deprive them of their livelihood the way these Leftist activists are doing. This is not surprising, given that Jesus told His followers to turn the other cheek, while the Left tells its followers to punch back harder and to bring a gun to a knife fight.

Two, Carol Swain is a professor of law and political science. Are her students seriously getting their delicate princess panties in a bunch over someone saying things they don’t agree with? I mean … SERIOUSLY?! Did they miss the part about how our legal and political systems are essentially adversarial?!

I dug into the story and discovered the ringleader of the effort to suspend Professor Swain is an LGBT activist.

What a shock. Not.

Addendum: In researching this, I came across a really good article about why “turn the other cheek” does not mean we Christians are supposed to allow ourselves to be passive doormats for abusive bullies.

“Jesus was using a common rabbinical teaching tool known as ‘hyperbole’ in order to accentuate an important point. He did not intend that line to be taken in a strict, literal, and absolute sense. In fact, Jesus uses hyperbole throughout the Sermon on the Mount. For some reason, the ‘judge not’ and ‘turn the other cheek’ passages get an inordinate amount of air-time.”

He gives other examples, such as “If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away. (5:29)”

The Power of Prayer

Yes, God really is stronger than evil! But he’s not some helicopter parent who throws his weight around to make sure his precious darlings always get participation awards and blue ribbons for shoddy work. He’s more the stern, but loving Drill Instructor who drives his troops through PT because he knows how hard the battles will be.

For the Christian, prayer is PT.

Case in point: The Planned Parenthood facility in Bryan, Texas, is … no, wait, make that WAS … the PP that Abby Johnson managed for 8 years until her dramatic conversion to the pro-life cause. It is also the PP where 40 Days for Life began. 40 Days for Life is now in 559 cities across all 50 states and 27 countries with more than 625,000 participants.

This month, that same building that was once a place of death and despair has reopened as a place of life and hope, housing Hope Pregnancy Center and 40 Days for Life.

Hope Pregnancy Center

“This news shows what God can accomplish when His people pray,” Shawn Carney of 40 Days for Life said.

Hope Pregnancy Center, which is the majority owner of the building, cares for women, offering pregnancy testing, STD testing, ultrasounds, counseling, medical information – all completely free, with ultrasounds performed by a full-time registered nurse under the supervision of a licensed physician.

Tracy Frank, Executive Director of Hope Pregnancy Centers of Brazos Valley, told LifeSiteNews, “For over 15 years, we have prayed that God would remove the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic and give it to us. To many, it sounded like a prayer too big to believe, but God did indeed answer that prayer!”

Carney said 40 Days for Life will use their space in the building to grow the pro-life vigil movement “to help other cities become abortion-free.”

Frank noted that the costs were high for purchasing the building and renovating it, and asked for pro-lifers across America to pray. “Please pray for us, for God’s protection and provision,” she said. “We would like to clear the remaining debt on the building, $261,000, so we can be focused on doing God’s work, God’s way.”

Since the use of tax dollars makes sharing Jesus problematic, Hope Pregnancy Centers rely exclusively on private donors and churches for funding. All of their services are free and confidential.

Pray for the courage to stand for Jesus

From Todd Starnes:*

President Obama says he cherishes religious liberty.

I can’t believe he said that with a straight face.

He went on to say that he stands alongside the Catholic Church in defense of religious liberty.

With all due respect, Mr. President that’s a great big steaming pile of fertilizer.

Defending religious liberty?

  • Tell that to Kim Davis – the Kentucky clerk thrown in jail after she refused to violate her religious beliefs.
  • Tell that to private business owners like Aaron and Melissa Klein and Barronnelle Stutzman.
  • Tell that to public servants like former Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran.
  • Tell that to Wes Modder and Phillip Monk and the countless military personnel threatened because of the God they serve.

This president’s assault on religious liberty has been nothing short of breathtaking.

If our Founding Fathers were alive today – I suspect they would’ve already started another revolution.

*Formatting by CtH.

Tell that to Bremerton High School football coach, Joe Kennedy, who has been informed in a three-page letter from the Superintendent of Schools that he faces disciplinary action, up to and including firing, if he talks about his faith to his players or does anything whatsoever that might be construed as praying in public.

He can’t wear a cross, take a knee, bow his head, or stand on the 50-yard line after a game and look at the stars.

The district defended its ban saying they were only trying to protect students who do not share coach’s faith and might feel uncomfortable or left out.

Right. Cuz nothing makes Christians feel more comfy, cozy and included than being told their smallest expression of faith is X-rated.

Coach says, “I’m going to keep on praying.”

The rest of us need to pray we have his courage when the persecution gets to our doors.

The Vatican didn’t disavow Pope Francis’ meeting with Kim Davis

It was a handful of pro-gay activists who did that.

The Vatican invited Davis to meet the pope in Washington DC.

Neither Kim Davis nor anyone connected to her requested the meeting.

Kim Davis met privately with the pope.

She was told at that time that the meeting was a secret only until the pope had left the United States.

After the news of the meeting broke, the gay mafia inside and outside the Church went berserk.

In response, Federico Lombardi S.J. issued a highly nuanced statement from the Vatican that was technically accurate, but very misleading.

Then, one or two other pro-gay sources anonymously claimed the pope had been ambushed by Davis’ lawyers and that the Vatican regretted they ever let her near the pope.

Finally, two celebrity priests who actively promote the gay agenda — Thomas Rosica and James Martin — published their politicized and twisted versions of the event.

Martin and Rosica

IMO, the people who dropped the ball were the ones who organized the visit. It should have been obvious to them that they needed to release a factual and carefully worded statement the minute the pope’s plane took off, because of course Davis was going to talk about her visit and of course the left would go berserk.  Duh.

I could wish my church was filled with nothing but very wise and truly holy people, but it hey … Jesus picked Judas to be an apostle, right?

As always, I have to deal with this by praying, piling my disappointment into the Father’s lap, and trusting He is on top of it all as He promised.

“We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.” -Romans 8:28 < This passage was the theme of the Hypenated Nuptial Mass.

Nov 1: The Feast of All Saints

I saw this on Facebook:

People do not believe me when I say that God the Father can and will speak to you if you would just open your heart in Faith and allow Him to do so and you can do this every day! For those who still do not believe this is possible I leave you with the words of St. Catherine Laboure… “When I go to the Chapel I place myself before the good God and I say to Him: ‘Lord, here I am, give me what you will.’ If He gives me something, I am very pleased and I thank Him because I do not deserve anything. And then again, I tell Him all that passes through my mind; I recount my pains and my joys and… I listen. If you listen to Him, He will speak to you also, because with the good God it is necessary to speak and to listen. He will always speak to you if you go to Him simply and sincerely.”

Refusing to take a side IS taking a side

There are only two sides — God’s and Satan’s.

  • God only takes those who make Him #1.
  • Fence sitters – de facto and de jure – belong to Satan.

Bonhoeffer Silence in the face of evil

Dr. Alan Snyder (Professor of History in the Department of Historical, Legal, and Leadership Studies at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida) posted this on his blog:

“I understand why people can become cynical and think nothing they do can make a difference. The only problem with that thinking, though, as a Christian, is that it is a faithless position to take.

If you want to guarantee that things get worse, stay on the sidelines and do nothing. But the Gospel I believe in, and the God of that Gospel, tells us to make disciples of all nations. He also tells us to be light and salt in a society. If we give in to a kind of fatalism for our future, we act against the very commands we have been given.

“God doesn’t promise that we will win every battle, but He does want to see warriors on the field, doing their best as they take their orders from Him. The question in our minds ought to be the one asked by Jesus Himself when He queried, ‘When the Son of Man comes [back], will He find faith on the earth’?

“I want to be found faithful. How about you?”

Testimony of a former demonic priest

If Jesus can free him, He can free anybody!

Unmasking Satan | John Ramirez

I have a lot of up close, in person experience with demonic warfare. Based on my experience, I want to offer a couple of caveats to Ramirez’ message. One, the Word is truly powerful, but the Eucharist is even more so. Two, praying in tongues is not necessary. I was active in the Charismatic Catholic movement and I used to pray in tongues. However, when demonic warfare became a big issue in my life, I realized that I needed to know what I was saying. As Ramirez himself notes, demons can mimic the gifts of the Spirit; I just didn’t trust that my “tongues” were really from the Holy Spirit. I’ve been successfully fighting demons for two decades now without praying in tongues. Apart from these two points, I agree with what Ramirez said on the video. I haven’t heard the messages in the stuff they’re selling, so I can’t comment on those. I can say that it’s safe to order from the site. I ordered a set of Jonathan Cahn messages and they came very quickly. – CtH

We’re nicer than they are

Last year, the owners of a small-town pizzeria in Indiana were asked, hypothetically, if they would cater a same-sex wedding. They said they would not, because it was against their religion.

The Homosexual Tolerance Brigade threatened to burn down their shop.

Tolerant Liberal

The pizzeria owners did not answer threats with threats, but continued to calmly explain that they would happily serve whoever walked into their shop.  They just didn’t want to be a formal part of a same-sex wedding.

Recently, a man bought two pizzas at this pizzeria and served them at a same-sex wedding reception.  He also made a YouTube video about how the pizzeria had been forced to cater the wedding without knowing it.

Ha ha … way to treat serious First Amendment issues like we’re all still in grade school.

Again, the owners did not get their noses out of joint, explaining that they served everybody who came into their shop equally and that what people did with pizzas after they left the shop was none of their business.

Isn’t it interesting how the same people who decry bullying of homosexual kids in our schools behave exactly like playground bullies toward Christians?
