I think that these will clash with my Christmas decorations, so I will follow Mother Nature’s lead and hold off a while longer.

My husband got some great pictures of my morning glories a couple of days ago, so I thought I’d share a few of them.

Here’s something I’d never seen before: a four-sided morning glory.

Yes, I am a morning glory fanatic. But I do grow a few other things too. Here’s a group shot of part of my coleus collection:

My garden was nothing to brag about this year, due to a number of factors. First was the terrible economy, which left me with very little money to spend on plants (and my record of success in growing things from seed is abysmal). Second was that I got a very late start, as I had to wait for the places that sell plants to mark everything down to half price. Third was a combination of uncooperative weather (including several hailstorms) and frequent neglect on the part of the gardener (i.e. me). Let’s just say it wasn’t one of those summers that I would have wanted my yard to be on the Garden Tour. Still, there are some places in it that are quite pretty… so I had my teenage daughter go out this afternoon and take some close-up shots of the parts that are actually worth looking at.

I know that some of my “imaginary friends” on the internet are going through some tough times these days. I wish that you could come and spend some time in my garden with me. It is a healing place. I am sending all good wishes and prayers your way.

I’m trying to organize, back up and clean off my hard drive in anticipation of getting my new computer. I just processed these pics Dearest took out in our yard in June. They’re out of season, but they were so nice, I want to share anyway.

The peonies were my dad’s. I transplanted them to my garden in memory of him.
I’m thinking this last one would be a good candidate for our PoliNators border imagery, but maybe the bee is too small?

There will be NO “big picture” pictures of our little patch of God’s Green Earth. IMHO, a garden is like a dance; it doesn’t really exist except when someone is doing it. Sadly, it’s been a long time since anyone around here had time or energy for more than mowing the grass and shoveling the snow. IOW, my gardens look like crap and I’m ashamed of them! Sigh.

This was last year, but it will be like this again in about 2 weeks. I get lots of zinnias (thousands, I am sure) from about $10 worth of seeds. I plant them in 2 week intervals because they like it to be nice and hot to germinate and thrive. If we get a cool snap before they get going well they stay sort of puny all season, so I stagger the planting. The little house was my daughter’s play house made from old windows we tore out of a house we were renovating, and odds and ends of left over construction inventory. Now that she is grown and gone I store my garden equipment in there. I miss the tea party days, though.

Because of the long winter, everything is behind schedule in Wisconsin. And because of the terrible economy, I haven’t had any money to spend on flowers. So what we have in the garden is whatever survived from last year. Fortunately, the forget-me-nots I planted a few years ago not only come back every spring, they multiply and become more vibrant and more beautiful every year.
