Because neither my father nor my father-in-law (both WW2 vets) is with us any longer, usually the only veteran at my house on 11/11 is my husband (army, Vietnam). But right now my middle daughter and her husband are staying with us temporarily while they look for a place to live, and my son-in-law is also a veteran (army) who served two tours in Iraq. I thought I should do something special to honor my two veterans today, so I told them that for supper tonight we’re having MREs. You should have seen the looks on their faces!

Oh, you think you’re hardened and steeled for anything. Kleenex alert, indeed! Then, the moment of the first bit of applause, uncontrollable lacrymation. Well done. The drama sneaks up on you. Of course, you didn’t take Bob’s warning and had to use your sleeve. And by you, of course, I mean me.
It’s been a long time since I was in high school watching on TV as our returning Nam vets got spit on and cursed at, but I can’t forget and all the more appreciate for the contrast how they are honored now. (Alas that their war seems to be going much the same.)
We just had two locals not come home alive, nineteen-year-old Spc. Sarina Butcher, of Checotah, the first female Oklahoma National Guard soldier killed during wartime, and 26-year-old Sgt. Christopher Gailey, of Ochelata, funeral here today. (Patriot Guard is on patrol; threat of Westboro slime.)

[Hi, Polination. I’ve had a busy couple of months. Nice to be getting back to Grudges & all.]

Remembering the fallen (including a co-worker of one of my deployed kids). ::sniff::
Speaking of my deployed kids, when you’re praying for them, could you put in a good word for my two lumpy kids? We had one go in this week for a biopsy for a lump in her eye. (Fortunately, she thinks the black patch is way cool.)
The other, Baby Bunn, is having an MRI done on her whole neck in a couple of days. She had a tiny lump on her throat at birth which they ultrasounded with inconclusive results. They decided to watch it, figuring it was probably just a gland that would go away on its own.
I remember our family pediatrician remarking once that we seemed to be a “lumpy” sort of family.” One of my babies had a similar lump that the docs said would likely go away and it did. I also had a lump in my mouth once that the doc said probably would not go away, except it did, so I didn’t need surgery.
Bunn’s lump, scarily, has grown not shrunk and at an alarming rate. Mama Buzz says two weeks ago, only she could tell it was there. Now, visitors want to know “what IS that?”
She can eat and breathe, but I think her cry sounds strangled. Maybe she just has a little bitty voice, but all the babies I’ve known in the past were very lusty about announcing their problems. I’ve heard Bunn yammering for dinner over the phone and I think she sounds like a weak kitten with a too tight collar.
I’ll report on test results.
