Honest to goodness, this absolutely terrifies me. I have worked so hard for 38 years, and saved like a maniac, because there will be no pension or retirement program for us, since we are self-employed. I can’t stand to think of turning over that savings to any of the thieves in office, ever.

I am having a real problem with this story. This girl is not really a targeted victim. She refused to play by the rules that others had to follow.
Here is why
In our area, we have these markets all summer, run by an independent company. I have done both volunteer tables for free, and paid to have a business table. Either way, there is a lot of paperwork involved, and if one is promoting a business, there are fees, which is only fair.
This girl tried to do an end around and just set up a table without asking. I am sure the market organizers would have worked with her, had she approached them first. What she did was not fair to those who have to go through the vetting process to get a space.
So I do not feel she was being persecuted at all.
To me, this is no difference than someone crashing a party just bbecause they feel they deserve their fair share of the cake.
