Our very own Bluebird of Bitterness became a grandmother for the first time yesterday.
From her FB page: Got to see him just for a few minutes. He was born at home, at about 7:30 this morning, weighing eight pounds four ounces. His name is Kiran, and he’s just as cute as he could be.
I hope BoB doesn’t mind my doing this,I’m just so excited my dear friend is going to learn the unbridled joy of being a grandparent (spoil ’em,then send ’em home).
Babies are a miracle that God performs every day.

Yay. (Thanks for the news, Pete.) Healthy weight. Born at home is risky; all went well, I hope. (Our 1st was at-home; next time was twins and home was not an option, although we came close.)
Welcome to the world, Kiran. It can be a wonderful world, despite some pains.
I’ll bet BoB will be a wonderful grandmother.

Everything went just fine. Her midwives have loads of experience and an excellent safety record, so I wasn’t worried.

Thanks Pete! We’re all so glad that little Kiran decided to be born while his two aunties both happened to be in town, a circumstance that occurs only rarely. Our youngest daughter has to return to Pittsburgh today and our eldest daughter has to return to Chicago tomorrow, but they both got to see and hold Kiran while he was still brand new. So in addition to being super cute, that little guy also has very good timing. 🙂

He seems destined to get spoiled rotten by his grandparents (both sets), aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.

Is there an instructional video or something so I can learn the steps?

STEPS?! I learned to dance in the 60s. We didn’t have no damn STEPS.

Well, I was raised evangelical protestant, and we never danced at all. Never EVER. It was ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN. So I never learned how. 😦

Which makes you as competent as all of us who were allowed to dance between the Vietnam War and Strictly Ballroom.

I would focus on more practical instructional videos, like how to train your cats to accept the new little guy.

I’m going to train the cats to do this:

Have you prepared your daughter properly, Bob?

Yeah, she knows about all that stuff, which is a big part of the reason that she never wanted to have kids. But now that her little unplanned surprise is here, she loves him passionately and devotedly.
And yes, I know “unplanned surprise” is redundant, and I don’t care. I have had a house full of adult kids, their friends, and their friends’ kids here for the past two weeks and I am EXHAUSTED. The fact that my house is still a wreck from the flood didn’t help, since I have no spare bedrooms and only one useable bathroom — everything else is still under construction.
