A large solar flare erupted Thursday and is set to reach us this weekend. It’s strong enough to form aurora borealis displays much further south than usual. So if you live anywhere the map shows, check the sky tonight and tomorrow night!

When we built our house 36 years ago, it was dark enough out here that we could see northern lights. But now it’s much more built up and lit up, which kind of obliterates northern lights, as well as all but the brightest stars. Sigh…
