DAILY PRAYER: Dear Lord, We submit all our plans for today to You in love and trust. In Jesus’ Name, amen.

AMERICAN HISTORY: On April 28, 1881, the U.S. and Great Britain sign the Rush-Bagot treaty, demilitarizing the US-Canada border. Photo: Memorial terrace to the Rush–Bagot Treaty at Old Fort Niagara.

BROKEN WINDOWS: There is a theory of law enforcement that enforcing the law in small things reduces more serious crimes by a lot. Liberal like to say it’s hooey, but San Francisco (of all places) has just proven them wrong.
After the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit system (aka, BART) replaced their old 1970s-style, waist-high gates with ones you can’t just hop over, ridership and revenue went up, while crime and maintenance costs went down.
BART General Manager Bob Powers noted that, in addition to the fare gates, they had i mproved lighting, upgraded security, and made service more “customer-centered.” Funny thing how providing a “comfortable experience for everyone who rides” would magically result in a staggering $10 million increase in revenue.

These people and their students need prayer!

HEALTH: More than 1,800 lawsuits have been filed in US courts against the makers of Ozempic by patients alleging the drug caused stomach paralysis, vision loss, and other severe complications they were not clearly warned about.
Ozempic, also sold under brands like Wegovy and Rybelsus, belongs to a group of medicines called GLP-1 receptor agonists. These drugs were originally approved to treat type 2 diabetes but soon became popular for weight loss because they suppress appetite, help regulate blood sugar and eventually help in losing weight.

RED HERRINGS: During the Cold War, Soviety submarines illegally invaded Swedish waters, so the Swedish Navy took every underwater acoustic signal anomaly seriously. For 15 years, they were baffled by signals that looked exactly like a submarine, except it was somehow able to split into two, then four, then merge back together again. Sweden spent millions trying to figure out what was going on until, in 1996, civilian marine biologists analyzed the signals and informed the Navy they were biological. Specifically, herring. Herring communicate at night by releasing short bursts of air from their swim bladders, creating a distinctive “tick” sound. Large schools do this in synchronized patterns to stay together and those bursts perfectly mimicked submarine acoustic signatures on Sweden’s ultra-sensitive sensors.

REFLECTING POOL: @SethAbramson called this a “grotesque” example of Trump’s “enshittification of America.” From a grammatical point of view, I’m thinking that removing goose poo should properly be referred to as “deshittification.”

SCOTUS: On April 27, SCOTUS summarily reversed a lower court ruling that tried to block Texas from implementing its mid-decade congressional redistricting map. The new districts will be in effect in November.

GRAMMY NOTES: The Mascots are going to grow veggies this summer.
