  2. Simon of Cyrene. Cyrene, also sometimes anglicized as Kyrene, was an ancient Greek colony and Roman city near present-day Shahhat in northeastern Libya in North Africa.

Picky tech note: The illustration, as many (most?) do, depicts Jesus carrying the whole cross. It’s my understanding the Romans placed the upright timber first, then forced the condemned to carry the horizontal part. Which was heavy enough. Especially for the weary, scourged, tired Jesus. It was an unusual mercy that the Roman captain ordered Simon to assist Jesus.

young woman who, refreshingly, isn’t afraid to question her biases — That was unusual. A thinking pink-hair.

watch foster kids learn they’re being adopted. You might need a tissue! Indeed, much misty-eyedness.

Thanks, cth. Good to have the full bits and bytes back.
