When Even TMZ is Embarrassed by the Presidency, How Much is Left to Salvage?

As Pistol Pete posted earlier today, some unusually slavish behavior happened at last night’s fundraiser at Gwyneth Paltrow’s estate in Brentwood, California. This event was so fawning that even the Hollywood smut merchant TMZ has begun to bemoan that the once-respectable Office of the President of the United States has become seriously damaged.
The idiocy of Hollywood was in full bloom Thursday night when Gwyneth Paltrow turned an already-embarrassing Hollywood fundraiser into “The Dating Game.”
Paltrow — who hosted the event at her Brentwood home — gushed as she introduced President Obama, “You’re so handsome that I can’t speak properly.”
She then showed utter ignorance about, and contempt for, the Constitution and separation of powers — the basic tenets of our government — by saying, “It would be wonderful if we were able to give this man all of the power that he needs to pass the things that he needs to pass.”
It’s the latest example of how demeaning it has become for Presidents to act like circus animals — performing for crowds that will feed them … in this case, feed them with money to line political coffers.
It’s revolting that celebrities and other rich people feel such a need for self-importance — contributing money but ONLY if they can have their picture taken with the president and tell their friends they had dinner with him. If they’re so committed to him, just send him a check and let him stay in Washington and do his job.
Oh my. [Image by Salon.com.]

Ten Buck Friday – Week Six: Tired of Embracing the Suck Yet?

Week Six of a Nine Week Mission, to Seek new life for the Senate, to Boldly Beam Harry Reid back to the planet he came from!
Focusing on the Senate races, is it worth ten bucks a week to you (roughly the cost of ZMalfoy’s yearly share of Suburban Washington DC taxes that go to the upkeep of the Presidential golf course at Andrews AFB) to eliminate Reid’s control and give the Senate responsible adult leadership again?
With that in mind, this week we look to the Senate seat in Alaska. Can you contribute just $10 to Senate candidate Dan Sullivan?
Real Clear Politics has Sullivan up 4.8 and rates the race as a toss up.

With that in mind, this week we look to the Senate seat in LA. Can you contribute just $10 to Senate candidate Bill Cassidy in his race against Mary Landreu, (D-Washington DC)?

Kim Jong Numero Uno to Try Out some Less Cruel Shoes
According to the Telegraph, the North Korean top dog is recovering from surgery on his feet made necessary by walking around too many military bases in elevated ‘Cuban’ heel shoes. According to actual Cubans, however, quoted here and here, Kim is not cool enough to blame his injuries on Cuban shoes.

How would you Know if your Government were Telling the Truth about Ebola in Texas?
Heh! Trick question! When was the last time our government was completely truthful about anything? How’s your healthcare living up to promises lately? But seriously, if you want to know what they expect to happen after our first case of Ebola was confirmed by the CDC in Dallas, Texas, you should first look at what they say about it, and then look at how they act. Clearly, how they prepare – what they actually do – is a better indicator of what they believe than what they say.
What they say about the current situation in Texas can be summed up by CDC director Thomas Frieden’s statement yesterday as quoted by CBSDFW news in Dallas:
Several minutes into the press conference, Frieden paused and stated clearly, “The bottom line here is that I have no doubt that we will control this importation of this case of Ebola so that it does not spread widely in this country.”
Frieden did admit that it is possible that a family member or other person who had contact with the patient while he was infectious could develop Ebola in the coming weeks. But, he said, “There is no doubt in my mind that we will stop it here.”
How they are preparing for what they really expect is indicated by a statement issued three weeks ago by Lakeland Industries, Inc. In their statement, they indicated that they were struggling to meet demand for “Hazmat Suits” specifically advertised for Ebola prevention, citing a single U.S. State Department bid for 160,000 suits. As ZeroHedge pointed out today, it’s not clear why the State Department has ordered so many suits of the kind usually chosen to work with airborne viruses, when their official statements indicate that Ebola is not airborne. Ten Buck Friday – Week Four of the End of Harry’s Joy Ride
Week Four of a Nine Week Mission, to Seek Out new life for the Senate, to Boldly Throw Out clueless Harry Reid!!

Focusing on the Senate races, is it worth ten bucks a week to eliminate Reid’s control and give the Senate responsible leadership again? That’s the cost of a single margarita at Pistol Pete’s Radiator Repair, Brazilian Wax Emporium and Cantina.
Our candidates are being seriously outspent in the homestretch. From Political Clown Parade:
Data compiled by The Wall Street Journal indicates, “Since July 3, the largest Super PACs aligned with Democrats have raised four times the money of pro-GOP Super PACs, and have now spent $60 million to Republicans’ $38 million. And, it’s not just on the Super PAC side.”
“The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee doubled the fundraising haul of its Republican counterpart in August and had an almost $10 million cash edge heading into the fall. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee ended August with a $5 million lead over the National Republican Senatorial Committee. And, Republican strategists closely watching ad spending in key Senate races acknowledge that they are being outspent—in some cases badly—on TV. In Colorado, for example, Democrats and their allied groups dropped over $1 million on TV ads in the first two weeks of September; Republicans spent just over $300,000.”
“North Carolina and, until recently, Iowa are other examples of where Democrats have used their spending edge to boost their candidates. And, that advantage will get even more important in October. Democrats’ early money allowed them to reserve air time at lower rates while Republicans are just now doing that.”
With that in mind, this week we look to the open Senate seat in NC. Real Clear Politics has Tillis up 1.0 points on the average, and rates the state as a toss up.

Name That Island!
Ooooooooh! I saw this once on Animal Planet. Papua New Guinea? Java? Nope. Manhattan Island, New York City, USA. Some call it the center of civilization. Some also say this People’s Climate March is all about science. Wait, I mean SCIENCE! Do you see any scientists in this picture? Neither do I. But these days, how could you tell?

Hat tip to Marc Hilliker for the photo.
Wherever this island is, it’s certainly not a place that has a Constitution with a Bill of Rights protecting free speech. That much is obvious, because this aspiring dictator, Robert Kennedy, Jr., was there …

And he just stated quite explicitly that he wants to put you in jail if you disagree with him on just about anything. He especially wants to put you in jail if you are a climate change “denier”, because you are guilty of “a criminal offense – and [you] ought to be serving time for it.”
Ten Buck Friday: Week Three of our Drive for a Psychosis-Free U.S. Senate
Week Three of a Nine Week Mission, to Seek Out new life for the Senate, to Boldly Go where our nation needs to be!

Focusing on the Senate races (Republicans need just six seats to oust the Dimbulb from Searchlight, Harry Reid as majority leader, ten to show Obama what the country really thinks of him!), is it worth ten bucks a week (1 1/2 lbs. of bacon?) to eliminate Reid’s control and give the Senate responsible leadership again? Just yesterday, our Senate voted to approve the most controversial part of President Obama’s ‘plan’ to combat ISIS by arming and training Syrian rebels who are known to be, largely themselves, associated with ISIS. If we had just a few more Republicans in the Senate, we would not be faced with suicidal action like this.
With that in mind, this week we look to the open Senate seat in AR. Can you contribute just $10 to Senate candidate Tom Cotton?
Real Clear Politics has Cotton up 1.7 points on the average, and rates the state as a toss up.
