Muslim violence in Tennessee

Remember all those years after 9/11 when Bush was president and we didn’t have a single attack on our home soil?  Remember when Obama took over and being safe went away?

http://www.bizpacreview.com/2015/07/17/seven-islamic-terror-attacks-in-us-in-seven-years-under-obama-its-a-record-225589

July 16, 2015: Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez opened fire from his car at two military facilities in Chattanooga, Tennessee, killing four Marines and wounding three others before he was killed. The two facilities are about eight miles apart. Police have not said if he was shot by officers or killed himself.

Abdulazeez came to the United States in 1996 with his parents and became a naturalized citizen. He was a 2012 graduate of the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga with a degree in electrical engineering.  He did not work at either of the military centers and was not being watched by the FBI or on any terror watchlists prior to the shooting.

July 13, 2014: Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez wrote in a blog that Muslims shouldn’t miss an opportunity to “submit to Allah,” and said “life is short and bitter.” He also stressed the sacrifice of the Sahaba, the Prophert’s companions, and said they “fought Jihad for the sake of Allah.”

The FBI is investigating the shootings as possible “domestic terrorism”, trying to determine if he had any ties to terror groups, had accomplices, and/or was inspired by organizations like ISIS. The Justice Department said it is a “national security” investigation.

For months, the Islamic State has been exhorting its Muslim followers to target and kill US military personnel. Last October, an Army intelligence bulletin is warned U.S. military personnel to be vigilant after Islamic State militants called on supporters to scour social media for addresses of their family members – and to “show up [at their homes] and slaughter them.”

These tweets appeared shortly after the shootings.

Hijacked USS Gabrielle Giffords Located, On Blocks, In New Smyrna Beach, Florida

Flagler1j Click on photo to embiggen.
Gruntington Post – Only months ago, the newly-christened littoral warship USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS-10) was the pride of the US Navy. Launched in honor of Congresswoman Giffords from Arizona (below), she was the first completely gun-free warship in the inventory. As reported at the Duffel Blog, the Giffords was immediately stolen in an armed raid by unknown forces believed to be associated with a patriot terrorist group in the southeastern U.S.
APTOPIXUSSGabrielleGiffordsChristening-0b99d
That mystery was cleared up yesterday when the USS Giffords was located by local police in the downtown district of New Smyrna Beach on the Atlantic coast of Florida. The ship was found on the street, supported by cinder blocks, stripped of its valuable electronics and fittings and covered in graffiti.

The Navy faces one more roadblock in repatriating the Giffords to its home port. The town of NSB has insisted that the derelict ship is being used in preparations for their Reggae and Island Music Festival planned for this weekend. This wouldn’t be a problem if the ship were still at sea, but it lies – high and dry – within the town limits, and Volusia County acknowledges the squatters rights of the various Reggae musicians and street people who have taken up temporary residence on board the vessel as they practice and set up for the festival. A pre-dawn raid by Navy SEALs was foiled this morning when local officials appealed to the White House, which immediately issued “stand down” orders to the team. It is now believed that the Navy stands the best chance of recovering the vessel on Tuesday of next week when the crowds, and the pot smoke, finally disperse.

Hat tip for Duffel Blog article to the Bluebird of Bitterness.

Those Westboro Baptists boggle my mind

I was intrigued by the Westboro Baptist Church’s (WBC) screed justifying its hateful protest at Officer Orozco’s funeral. I mean, Bloody Mary? Really?

2015_05 26 Westboro screed Bloody Mary

Historian David Loades wrote that despite executing some 290 Protestants during her reign, “Bloody Mary” was no more “bloody” than other monarchs of the time.

“Religious persecution was a common form of social and political control in the sixteenth century.”

Still, she did burn people at the stake, so ick … but what has that got to do with NEBRASKA?!

“God Hates Nebraska” because … uhhhhhhhh … okay, I got nothing. There are passages in Scripture that say God hates those who have given themselves over to sin. But everybody living in a state?

Psalm 11:5 for example. “The Lord …. hates those who love violence.”

Plus, it’s clear from the overall message of the Bible that someone who “loves” violence (or any other sin) has made that sin a false idol (Old Testament) and is trying to serve two masters (New Testament). IMHO, Westboro is on very thin ice theologically, since they seem to “love” their “violence” a whole lot too much.

They are also guilty on a number of counts listed in Proverbs 6:16-19.

“There are six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to him; Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that plots wicked schemes, feet that are quick to run to evil, The false witness who utters lies, and the one who sows discord among kindred.

Obamacrats should note that the one sin that is doubled (sixth and seventh) is LYING. But I digress.

Bluebird of Bitterness commented at PoliNation, “Is one of the requirements for membership in Westboro Baptist that you don’t work for a living? Where do they find the time to travel all over the country to do their stupid obnoxious protests? Most normal people couldn’t do things like that even if they wanted to (which, thank God, no normal person does), because we have actual lives and responsibilities.”

Westboro Baptist has been protesting at funerals and other public events since about 1991. They have a special hate on for our military and some protests have included WBC members stomping on the American flag. They also really hate gays, Jews, Catholics, Episcopalians, Methodists, and … well … pretty much everybody but their own sweet selves. While they claim to be against abortion, I didn’t see any indication that they protest clinics or lift a finger to help pregnant women carry to term.

Wikipedia says WBC pickets as many as six locations every day and that, on Sundays, they may hit up to 15 churches! Most of these are in their hometown of Topeka, but they claim they’ve hit all 50 states and spent about $250,000 a year on picketing.

Wait, what? Who’s paying for this?!

I googled and found a number of other people asking about WBC finances also. As a church, they have no obligation to disclose their finances. They claim they support themselves entirely with member donations, which is a bit hard to figure … unless somebody in the TINY congregation is a trust fund baby or something.

Some folks suggested they rake it in with law suits, but that didn’t hold up. They have filed and won a couple suits against people who tried to deprive them of their First Amendment right to be total assholes, but the awards didn’t net them enough money to pay for even one year of travel.

So I ask again … who pays for all this?  Am I being too tin-hatty to think somebody who hates Christians is paying for these turds to go make the rest of us look bad?

Wikipedia says WBC is a non-denominational church that has been condemned by Baptist and other Christian denominations, so there’s not likely to be any money coming in from other churches. Wikipedia says it has only about 40 members … FORTY … most of whom are members of the extended family of the founder, Fred Phelps, who died in March 2014.

Phelps’ daughter said they did not have a funeral for dear old dad, because they do not “worship the dead.” Call me crazy, but dontcha think that if God considering it idolatry for loved ones to gather and pray for the deceased, JESUS might’ve said something to that effect while He was here? Say … when he showed up at Lazarus’ tomb? John 11 says, “many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them about their brother.”  If God had a problem with funerals, would that not have been the ideal time to give us all a heads up?

The WBC website is called http://www.godhatesfags.com. Classy. They announce military deaths with a “Thank God for # more dead troops” and characterize all Catholic institutions as “Catholic Pedophile Whorehouses.”

I’ll spare you what they say about Catholic priests; it’s really gross.  And what kind of church publishes PORN like that anyway?!

The site also links to Sister Sites, which include GodHatesIslam.com, GodHatesTheMedia.com, GodHatesTheWorld.com, and PriestsRapeBoys.com.

There is also a lovely feature called “Numbers” which celebrates

  • “soldiers that God has killed in Iraq and Afghanistan”
  • “pickets conducted by WBC”
  • “nanoseconds of sleep that WBC members lose over your opinions and feeeeellllliiiiiings.”

That last one is zero.  And speaking of ZERO … there are ZERO pages at the WBC website devoted to what the Bible has to say about God’s LOVE or Jesus’ SALVATION.  However, there is one devoted to “God’s Hatred in the Bible.”

Among the WBC’s contemptible actions listed at Wikipedia:

  • January 2011: WBC announced plans to picket the funeral of the 9-year-old girl killed in the 2011 Tucson shooting (Giffords).
  • April 15, 2013: WBC thanked God for the Boston Marathon bombings and announced plans to picket the funerals.

Their picket schedule shows them going to North Carolina this week-end and Florida the following week-end. Lucky North Carolina and Florida. :0/

Get your green card first

House Democrats voted unanimously in favor of allowing illegals to join our military.

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) supported the proposal, saying that citizenship shouldn’t matter. “I know that what really matters on the battlefield isn’t whether you have the right papers, it’s whether you have the heart to fight, patriotism for your country, and the right character,” he said.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh … no. If you’re an illegal alien, then it’s not YOUR country, now is it? Our military has ALWAYS allowed LEGAL immigrants to serve. Many, many immigrants have used military service to fast-track their way to naturalization. But ILLEGALS? Unh-unh. Get your green card first. Then, we can talk.

Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) opposed the proposal, saying it legitimized Obama’s DACA program (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), which has been challenged in court as an unconstitutional overreach.

Fortunately, our Republican majority was able to kill the proposal 221-202.

Back when the CINC still cared about our troops

The following is an excerpt from And the Good News Is …: Lessons and Advice from the Bright Side, by Dana Perino, who served as President George W. Bush’s Press Secretary.

Dana Perino book jacket

News of America’s military men and women were wounded and killed in Iraq and Afghanistan almost overwhelmed me on some days. I may have sounded strong when I was talking to the press, but sometimes I had to push my feelings way down in order to get any words out of my mouth to make statements and answer questions.

The hardest days were when President Bush went to visit the wounded or families of the fallen. If it was tough for me, you can only imagine what it was like for the families and for a president who knew that his decisions led his troops into battles where they fought valiantly but were severely injured or lost their lives.

He regularly visited patients at Walter Reed military hospital near the White House. These stops were unannounced because of security concerns and hassles for the hospital staff that come with a full blown presidential visit.

One morning in 2005, Scott McClellan sent me in his place to visit the wounded warriors. It was my first time for that particular assignment, and I was nervous about how the visits would go.

The president was scheduled to see twenty-five patients at Walter Reed. Many of them had traumatic brain injuries and were in very serious, sometimes critical, condition. Despite getting the best treatment available in the world, we knew that some would not survive.

We started in the intensive care unit. The Chief Naval Officer (CNO) briefed the president on our way into the hospital about the first patient we’d see. He was a young Marine who had been injured when his Humvee was hit by a roadside bomb. After his rescue, he was flown to Landstuhl U.S. Air Force Base in Kaiserslautern, Germany. At his bedside were his parents, wife, and five-year-old son.

“What’s his prognosis?” the president asked.

“Well, we don’t know sir, because he’s not opened his eyes since he arrived, so we haven’t been able to communicate with him. But no matter what, Mr. President, he has a long road ahead of him,” said the CNO.

We had to wear masks because of the risk of infection to the patient. I watched carefully to see how the family would react to President Bush, and I was worried that they might be mad at him and blame him for their loved one’s situation. But I was wrong.

The family was so excited the president had come. They gave him big hugs and thanked him over and over. Then they wanted to get a photo. So he gathered them all in front of Eric Draper, the White House photographer.

President Bush asked, “Is everybody smiling?” But they all had ICU masks on. A light chuckle ran through the room as everyone got the joke.

The soldier was intubated. The president talked quietly with the family at the foot of the patient’s bed. I looked up at the ceiling so that I could hold back tears.

After he visited with them for a bit, the president turned to the military aide and said, “Okay, let’s do the presentation.” The wounded soldier was being awarded the Purple Heart, given to troops that suffer wounds in combat.

Everyone stood silently while the military aide in a low and steady voice presented the award. At the end of it, the Marine’s little boy tugged on the president’s jacket and asked, “What’s a Purple Heart?”

The president got down on one knee and pulled the little boy closer to him. He said, “It’s an award for your dad, because he is very brave and courageous, and because he loves his country so much. And I hope you know how much he loves you and your mom, too.”

As he hugged the boy, there was a commotion from the medical staff as they moved toward the bed.

The Marine had just opened his eyes. I could see him from where I stood.

The CNO held the medical team back and said, “Hold on, guys. I think he wants the president.”

The president jumped up and rushed over to the side of the bed. He cupped the Marine’s face in his hands. They locked eyes, and after a couple of moments the president, without breaking eye contact, said to the military aide, “Read it again.”

So we stood silently as the military aide presented the Marine with the award for a second time. The president had tears dripping from his eyes onto the Marine’s face. As the presentation ended, the president rested his forehead on the Marine’s for a moment.

Now everyone was crying, and for so many reasons: the sacrifice; the pain and suffering; the love of country; the belief in the mission; and the witnessing of a relationship between a soldier and his Commander in Chief that the rest of us could never fully grasp. (In writing this book, I contacted several military aides who helped me track down the name of the Marine. I hoped for news that he had survived. He did not. He died during surgery six days after the president’s visit. He is buried at Arlington Cemetery and is survived by his wife and their three children.)

And that was just the first patient we saw. For the rest of the visit to the hospital that day, almost every family had the same reaction of joy when they saw the president.

But there were exceptions. One mom and dad of a dying soldier from the Caribbean were devastated, the mom beside herself with grief. She yelled at the president, wanting to know why it was her child and not his who lay in that hospital bed.

Her husband tried to calm her and I noticed the president wasn’t in a hurry to leave—he tried offering comfort but then just stood and took it, like he expected and needed to hear the anguish, to try to soak up some of her suffering if he could.

Later as we rode back on Marine One to the White House, no one spoke.

But as the helicopter took off, the president looked at me and said, “That mama sure was mad at me.” Then he turned to look out the window of the helicopter. “And I don’t blame her a bit.”

One tear slipped out the side of his eye and down his face. He didn’t wipe it away, and we flew back to the White House.
