Gun bans invite crime

One (of many) reasons I prefer to have dogs is that they bark at outside noises. I read a news story once about a dog that had gone all barky in the middle of the night, then the next day, the homeowner found one of his window screens had been tampered with AND his dog-less next door neighbor had been robbed.

Do the math.  Now add the insane STUPIDITY of posting “No Guns Here” signs on your property!  I wonder how insurance companies feel about extending coverage to people who are stupid enough to INVITE criminals to come rob them.

Random Saturday Stuff

Things I picked up at Facebook or got sent in email.  Usually, I’d add these to Pete’s post, but he doesn’t usually put anything up on Saturday.

This is a VERY interesting article about a Pro-Life program that really works. I think the author’s points about how to dialogue successfully with left-wingers can be applied successfully to any political issue and are worth studying.

Ten year old Willie Myrick was kidnapped from his front yard in Atlanta. The kidnapper told him, “I don’t want to hear a word from you.”

That’s when Myrick began to sing a gospel song called “Every Praise.” The kidnapper started cursing and repeatedly told Myrick to shut up, but he wouldn’t. He sang the song for about three hours until the kidnapper let him out of the car. The little boy ran to a nearby home and asked the resident to call his guardian.

Myrick recently got to meet “Every Praise” gospel singer Hezekiah Walker, and they sang the song together. Police don’t have any leads on the suspect, but are hoping a sketch they released will generate tips.

Vague PA tweets

A Portland alternative newspaper called The Willamette Week hosted Republican primary candidates for U.S. Senate to, in the paper’s words, “explore questions that we think matter most to our readers.”

As one of the other candidates was answering a question, candidate Mark Callahan noticed a reporter writing “blah blah blah blah blah” on his notepad.

He confronted the man, wanting to know why he was being so disrespectful. The moderator broke in, saying he wanted to move on to another question and advised CALLAHAN to answer respectfully.

Callahan shot back: “You have to give respect in order to get respect. Right now on that side of the table, you’re not giving very much respect to the five of us and our time here.”

Their verbal tussle continued briefly, then Callahan was asked whether he believed climate change is a myth or reality.

“Myth,” he fired back.

Jaquiss, the blah-blah-blah reporter, sarcastically asked, “Where are you on the Easter bunny?”

“Are these really the questions I was called here to answer?” demanded Callahan. “I called you out for putting ‘blah blah blah blah blah’ on your notepad and now you’re asking me questions like this? Really? Are we talking about this now?”

The committee leader suggested Callahan leave and Callahan laughed at him.

Someone said, “There’s the door,” and Callahan left.

The Willamette Week posted a one-hour-42-minute video of the entire candidate-endorsement meeting online. The 2 minute volatile exchange with Callahan went viral, which is helping Callahan’s campaign.

Oregon’s primary election is May 20.

The real story behind Democrats and Gun Control

FUNNY – California state Senator Leland Yee: Part-time politician, full-time arms dealer

SERIOUS – Mar 26, 2014: State Sen. Leland Yee arrested

The FBI says Yee told an undercover agent to give him a shopping list of guns, assuring him he could get automatic weapons and RPGs. Yee promised to take responsibility for brokering and delivering the deal in exchange for cash and/or campaign donations.

Yee said he had a connection with Russian arms dealers and Filipino Muslim terrorists who had no problem ‘kidnapping individuals, killing individuals, and extorting them for ransom.”

Yee took envelopes full of cash to influence public policy, violated campaign contribution limit laws, and laundered money for a Chinese crime syndicate headed up by Shrimp Boy Chow. Yee’s fundraiser Keith Jackson was the go-between man.

Yee was arrested alongside a Chinese gangster, Raymond “Shrimp Boy” Chow, as part of an FBI public corruption investigation. Below is a 2012 ABC report about how Democrat politicians shoveled money and praise at “Shrimp Boy” despite his felonious past and shady connections.

Two sides to the story

This thing reminds me of the Gates arrest incident back in the summer of 2009. First, Obama and the media blew it up into a RAACIST Police Brutality story. Then, the cops got to tell their side of the story, which was they had followed procedure and been treated like crap by the very guy they were trying to HELP. I’m not saying police never use their authority to misbehave. I know they do. But we should be cautious about tar and feathering them when we don’t have the facts.

2014_02 20 Austin PD arrests jogger

Side One:

On Thursday morning, Austin police appear to arbitrarily pick on, abuse, handcuff and arrest an innocent little jogger. A guy who was across the street having coffee took video and photos, then posted a story critical of the cops @ http://chlorineoverdose.blogspot.com/2014/02/student-arrested-for-crossing-street.html.

Side Two:

Austin Police Department Chief Art Acevedo said that, in the past five years, there have been 96 deaths and 1,757 injuries related to drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians ignoring traffic laws.

In light of this, the APD initiated an effort to improve compliance with traffic signals, cross walks etc. by issuing tickets to drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians who ignore them.

This week, the APD focused on pedestrians jay-walking and crossing against the lights. On Thursday, 28 pedestrains had been stopped and seven citations had been issued. “Our goal is to change behavior, and not necessarily to write tickets or take people to jail,” Acevedo said.

Acevedo said, “All that young lady had to do when she was asked for her information was to provide it by law.  Instead of doing that, she decided to throw [herself] to the ground – officers didn’t sit her down – and she did the limp routine.”

According to Acevedo, Stephen was handcuffed after telling the officer not to touch her. Acevedo said the public outcry following the arrest did not faze him.

“I’d rather have everybody angry at me and my officers, then to see a young person lose their life needlessly,” Acevedo said. “I’d rather be up here talking about this, than going to our 97th fatality involving a pedestrian or 1800th injury involving a pedestrian.”

Excellent video about guns and murder rates

This is really well done. A quick, clear and persuasive examination of gun ownership vs. homicide rates that stacks up to be bad news for Musket Morgan and his “screw the 2d amendment” crowd.

If the shooter isn’t white, the story won’t take flight.

Sept 19, 2013: At least 13 people were shot in a Chicago neighborhood. One is a 3-year-old who is reported to be in critical condition.

The child’s uncle, Julian Harris, told the Chicago Sun-Times that dreadlocked men in a gray sedan shot at him Thursday night before turning toward nearby Cornell Square Park and opening fire. He said his nephew was shot in the cheek.

“They hit the light pole next to me, but I ducked down and ran into the house,” Harris said. “They’ve been coming round here looking for people to shoot every night, just gang-banging stuff. It’s what they do.”

Following a surge in homicides and shootings last year, the police department stepped up its patrols.

Through the first six months of the year, the department spent more than $57 million on overtime pay for officers, more than half of it from a program that saturates dangerous neighborhoods with hundreds of officers every night.

Maybe it would be more to the point to rescind all those strict gun control laws they have in Chicago.

Welcome to Chicago

I’m for more guns, thank you very much

2013: Twelve people were gunned down on a Navy base by a well-armed BAD GUY because the GOOD GUYS had no way to stop him.

1993: President Clinton barred members of the military, including officers, from carrying firearms on military bases.

Everybody in the military is not only vetted and well-trained in the use of firearms, but also has taken a solemn oath to put their own lives on the line to protect and defend others.

But they aren’t allowed to carry firearms on base?!?!

Gun control laws are not about reducing gun violence.

They are about disarming law-abiding citizens.

In 1976, Washington, D.C. imposed the strictest gun control law in the nation.

It prohibited anyone other than law-enforcement officers from carrying a firearm in the city. Residents were even barred from keeping guns in their homes for self-defense.

By disarming law-abiding citizens, lawmakers EMBOLDENED criminals!

  • DC homicides in 1975: 188
  • DC homicides in 1988: 369
  • DC homicides in 1993: 454.

In 2011, the state with the strongest gun control laws had more than THREE times the gun murder rate of the state with the weakest gun control laws. In DC, it was TWELVE times higher.

CALIFORNIA: Strongest Gun Control State 3.25 gun murders per 100,000 people.

UTAH: Weakest Gun Control Law State: 0.97 gun murders per 100,000 people.

WASHINGTON D.C.: Model Gun Control City: 12 gun murders per 100,000 people.

2011 Gun control laws increase gun violence

Clearly, people are going to have guns no matter how much you tell them it’s wrong, so let’s junk all that useless legislation and focus on teaching our young people to use their guns safely and responsibly.

We could start in elementary school with age-appropriate lessons about how you should not let anyone make you feel bad about your trigger finger but that you should never point a gun at anyone until you’re really ready.

Older kids would learn what the parts of a gun look like and how to clean, oil, assemble and safely carry one’s weapon. This would naturally include a lesson on how to properly rubber-band a condom on the barrel to keep water out. (For the sake of the children of gun-prudish Progressives, we could have the condom part demonstrated with a banana instead of a real gun.)

There would also be field trips to gun stores to see the wonderful array of possibilities that await the eager buyer as soon as s/he comes of age, plus assemblies where members of law enforcement, the military and the hunting and competitive shooting communities would come to talk about firearms.

Every high school would have a firing range and passing the gun safety, maintenance and shooting skills class would be mandatory before graduation unless the child’s parents filed a protest with the courts citing their rights under the Constitution to raise their children according to their absurd gun-prudish moral codes.

We could start somewhere small … say Washington, D.C. … and watch what happens to those gun crimes statistics. You know, the way they did with Charter Schools.

They WANT a race war

IMHO, this is the only explanation for the non-stop race baiting we’ve had inflicted on us since Obama took office.

Among the worst offenders is Al Sharpton. You really have to watch this two minute video clip all the way through to get an appreciation for just what a scum-sucking, bottom-feeder represents the Left on race issues.

And what is the fruit of this evil? Here’s one example:

In Seattle, a 35-year-old black man held an unarmed white man at gun point and demanded that he apologize “for all the things white people did to black people.” The victim said that he was “scared out of his mind” and “apologized profusely.” The aggressor was apprehended and identified by his victim who is suspected of menacing three other people the same night. He has a weapons-related conviction from 2002, an obstruction of justice conviction from 2006 and a reckless endangerment conviction from 2009.
