Republican Wins Kansas Special Election

But it’s a WIN for the Democrats!
LIBERALS LIVE IN A FANTASY LAND WHERE EVEN IF YOU LOSE, YOU CLAIM YOU WIN!

Kansas Treasurer Ron Estes won the special election in the 4th district against Democratic civil rights attorney James Thompson. Estes won with 52% of the vote.

Democrats tried to spin the win into a positive because the margin of victory was small. Naturally, many members of the political media joined them.
The New York Times was not much better:

While Mr. Thompson fell short, his unexpected strength represents a warning shot toward Republicans. And it will galvanize Democrats’ candidate-recruitment efforts for next year’s campaign.

But then the House Republican campaign arm released a venomous ad accusing Mr. Thompson of favoring abortion rights for gender selection. Soon after, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas scheduled a rally for Mr. Estes on Monday. And Mr. Trump and Vice President Mike Pence recorded automated get-out-the-vote calls.
Thompson could not even take the high road:

“Mr. Estes did not beat us,” Mr. Thompson told supporters after the race was called. “It took a president of the United States, the vice president, the speaker of the House, a senator coming into our state and a bunch of lies to drum up a vote.”

His campaign and the DNC also tried to make this look like a win for the left:

“I think the momentum we’ve seen here on the ground, and outpouring of support from Democrats across the country into races like this, is a good signs for Democrats nationally regardless of what happens tonight,” Thompson campaign manager Colin Curtis said before the election.

Taxifornia Committing Suicide

Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. California has a certifiably insane governor and hordes of clueless nitwits infected by the scourge of liberalism. As Jesus said, “Father, forgive them. They know not what they do.”
They know what they do, they just don’t realize the consequences for their actions… or don’t care. It is unfortunate that the rational people of the state are compelled to suffer along with the young and the feckless.

Taxifornia Does It Again

Taxation: California’s far-left government has done it again. Not realizing its real problems are excessive spending on misplaced priorities, excessive taxes, too much debt and a far-too generous welfare state, its legislature working in cahoots with Gov. Jerry “tax-and-spend” Brown has pushed through the largest tax hike in state history.

In California’s one-party state — everything in the state, everything, is controlled by the Democratic Party and its union allies — the governor and legislature rushed through a massive tax hike on gas and diesel fuel along with higher car registration fees with hardly anyone realizing it.

The state’s already highest-in-the-nation gasoline tax will rise 19.5 cents a gallon, while diesel will go up 20 cents. Meanwhile, car owners will also see their registration fees rise from $25 to $175, depending on vehicle value. Electric car owners get hit with a special $100 tax, since they don’t use gasoline.

All told, the new taxes are expected to collect $5.2 billion a year.

Taxifornia Does It Again

Nearly $1 billion in side deals cemented legislative vote to raise California’s gas tax
“Democrats just gave us the largest gas tax increase in state history — a deal so bad they needed $1 billion in pork to buy the votes to pass it,” said Assembly Republican leader Chad Mayes of Yucca Valley. “California deserves better.”
Similar proposals have languished for years, but Brown and legislative leaders set a quick-turn April 6 deadline for action, hoping to pressure a compromise before the Legislature’s spring break — ahead of big debates to come in 2017 on the state budget and hundreds of bills.

Republican Backed Jerry Brown’s Gas Tax for $400 Million Pork Project

One of the more prominent deals was the one that secured the vote of State Sen. Anthony Canella (R-Ceres), who was the only Republican in either chamber to support the measure, which includes raised fees at the Department of Motor Vehicles.

That side deal turns out to have been the costliest of all, amounting to $400 million in pork for “the extension of the Altamont Corridor Express, a commuter rail line between the Bay Area and Central Valley.”

Canella’s vote was crucial, because moderate State Sen. Steve Glazer (D-Orinda) opposed the gas tax, explaining in a statement published by the East Bay Times that it was unnecessary to raise taxes rather than re-directing spending from the costly high-speed rail project.
There are no moderates in California…they just all come with different price tags

California’s Super-Bloom Endangered by Special Snowflakes

The significant winter rains that California has experienced this year has led Governor Jerry Brown to declare the official drought officially over:

Startlingly green hills, surging rivers and the snow-wrapped Sierra Nevada had already signaled what Gov. Jerry Brown made official Friday: The long California drought is over.

However, the state’s nature lovers are failing to follow some common sense rules related to enjoying the beauty and are trampling over the delicate flowers they have flocked to admire.

One of the most spectacular areas is the Wildflower Trail at Diamond Valley Lake, which is a reservoir outside Hemet. A portion of the trail was shut down March 29 and was reopened Wednesday, just five days a week. Extra staff has been added to the area to police visitors, and new signs warn people to stay on the trails.

“It happened sort of suddenly, people started disregarding the rules and trail guides,” Picht told the Los Angeles Times. “You can’t really blame them, but at the same time, we couldn’t allow that.”

In other words, these special snowflakes are killing the flowers.

Democrats invented the judicial filibuster in 2003

In 2003, DEMOCRATS changed the threshold for judicial nominees from the traditional simple majority to a 60 vote standard.  They did this to deny confirmation to George W. Bush nominees.

In 2013, DEMOCRATS abolished the 60 vote standard for lower court judges, not because they thought SCOTUS was so different, but because there weren’t any SCOTUS judges up for confirmation.

During the 2016 campaign, they promised that, if Hillary won the presidency, they’d abolish the filibuster for SCOTUS appointments as well.

This week, Republicans did what Democrats did in 2013 and promised they’d do if Hillary had won.

Sen. John Cornyn’s Excellent Explanation of How Democrats Weaponized Cloture Votes [6:53]

The other thing Democrats are raging about is that the Republican-majority Senate refused to put Judge Merrick Garland — Obama’s nominee for Judge Antonin Scalia’s seat — up for a confirmation vote in 2016.

But once again, they’re playing the victim card on false pretenses.

The 2016 Scalia vacancy was the seventh time that the Senate has held a Supreme Court vacancy open rather than confirm an election-year nominee.

  • In 1960, Democrats passed a resolution against election year SCOTUS appointments.
  • In 1992, then-Senator Joe Biden, while serving as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, made a speech about how the Senate should not confirm SCOTUS appointments during an election year.

The Slime Stream Media Goes Full On Hypocrite

In 2013, then-Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid went nuclear and the same MSM that is now condemning Republicans cheered about it.

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes hailed it as “an affirmative win for democracy.”

CNN’s Ron Brownstein said, “The idea of requiring a super majority for the president to appoint his nominees just is anachronistic.”

Enjoying a Little Nukie

2017_04 Gorsuch out of mainstream Dems say

From Stilton Jarlsberg:

History was made yesterday when, for the first time since our nation became a nation, Democrats filibustered an exemplary Supreme Court Nominee because – and we’ve got plenty of political scientists and analysts to back us up on this – they’re complete and total assholes.

The only way around this epic act of douchebaggery was for Senate Republicans to invoke the so-called “nuclear option,” which – disappointingly – did not require inviting Democrats to “a picnic and special surprise” in the remotest corner of Nevada while a gleeful Donald Trump punched their coordinates into his suitcase nuclear launch device.

Rather, it involved changing Senate rules to allow a Supreme Court nominee to be confirmed with a simple majority of 51 votes, rather than requiring the 60 votes which has traditionally been the standard. And under this rule, we should see standout nominee Judge Gorsuch confirmed for the Supreme Court sometime today.

We would say that the Democrats are losing their freaking minds over this, only that ship sailed a long time ago.

A History Lesson About Democrass Behavior

2017_03 Gorsuch filibuster

If you read nothing else about the Gorsuch confirmation battle, read this.

Democrats single-handedly and unilaterally introduced the concept of judicial filibusters against majority-supported nominees, then proceeded to unilaterally end it, all over the course of about a decade. They started the practice when they were in the minority, then blew it up when they were in the majority.

Republicans are not entirely blameless in these wars, as the GOP has inflamed tensions at various stages along the way, often through various forms of retaliation. But the broad-strokes record is clear:

  • The Democratic Party has been exclusively and repeatedly responsible for the biggest provocations, over the span of decades.
  • They have insisted upon an ever-changing set of standards under which they get their way, whether they are in or out of power.
  • They have sought to impose special restrictions on Republicans, shamelessly changing the rules of the game when the roles are reversed.

Modeling better behavior has not succeeded in shaming them. Targeted retaliation has not chastened them. They have increasingly approached these battles as zero-sum blood feuds, whereas Republicans have naively believed that honoring Senate traditions, with some turnabout sprinkled in, would dissuade their opponents from future provocations.

The Garland episode was an important turning point, when the GOP finally force-fed Democrats a taste of their own medicine; and boy, did they hate it.  And thus, a zero-sum fight, waged lopsidedly by one party for years, was at last fully engaged.

With their enraged base seething with blind fury, Democrats are now on the precipice of one final escalation. Democrats began and endlessly advanced this partisan war, but the time has come for Republicans to end it.

Liberal Nightmare: Trump could appoint half federal judiciary!

Dems remove filibuster

There are currently over 100 vacancies on the benches of lower federal courts (appeals and district) , and many more are likely to open up due to the large number of older judges in these positions.

While the lower courts attract a fraction of the public’s attention, they represent most of the federal docket. Only 15 percent of cases ever move past a district court judge to the circuit courts. Of these, only a tiny fraction make their way to the Supreme Court.

Republicans don’t even need to go “nuclear” on these lower federal court nominations; the Democrats already did that in 2013.

The Republican majority can vote all these Trump appointees in as fast as they get nominated.

Bwahahahaha!!!

William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection wrote:

“When will the Dem base become woke? The day after Gorsuch is confirmed, when they realize the folly of Harry Reid’s ways.

“And at that point, it’s going to be like election night and Inauguration day combined.”

Delusional Democrats

Dem Tourettes by Terrell

Sen. Schumer said on ABC’s “This Week” that Democrats are willing to work with Republicans, as long as Republicans do what Democrats want.  Clearly, they learned NOTHING from the trouncing they got in the last 4 elections.
