I can’t put it any better than the Stoat Weasel did this morning: (Sweasel.com is the blog of an American woman ex-patriot living in darkest England. Uncle B is her husband. I think. Bowdlerization by Grunt)
Oh, well played, Rupert Murdoch’s Sun. Well played.
To be fair, they didn’t actually say they were shutting down Page 3, but they strongly suggested such. Then they went all modest (if underthings and bikinis can be called modest) for a couple of days. And now, the [boobies] are back!
It’s been dee-lightful to watch this play out all day.
First the howling shrews of the Perpetually Offended Brigade were all like WE WON! And then they were all like, we won, I guess, but it doesn’t feel that satisfying, really. And now they’re all like WTF! WE DIDN’T WIN!?
The sweetest part? Today’s [boobies] ran under the headline CLARIFICATIONS AND CORRECTIONS. I wouldn’t have realized this if Uncle B hadn’t told me: that’s the header from the ultra-lefty Guardian‘s correction column.
Read more at the Weasel Times. Or go here to the SUN’s “Clarifications” page.

The Grey Lady has gotten senile
The evil (but stupid) person who has taken hostages in Sydney says he has 2 bombs, no wait, make that 4 bombs, and he is DEMANDING they send in an ISIL flag.

A couple of days ago, Angelina Jolie recorded a video message distributed by Universal Pictures to explain why she would be conspicuously absent from promotional events prior to the release of her movie Unbroken on Christmas Day. She was stricken with Chicken Pox, apparently, during this critical time in the weeks before the release of the movie marking her directorial debut – a time usually filled with numerous high-profile interviews and studio events.
Just days before, stories like this one by Chrissythehyphenated, circulated about a desperate prayer made by Jolie during the final day of filming in Australia. The prayer was made very publicly and on her knees in front of the entire film crew and cast on set. Reportedly, the prayer was answered, because the rain stopped and director Jolie received just the exact amount of sunlight she needed to complete filming, and no more.
Few religious people can count on receiving this kind of spectacular response to a publicly-made prayer, but Jolie is very openly irreligious. Though she has expressed recent willingness to believe in a universal benevolent power, she’s never admitted to belief in a personal God who would be able to hear – or respond to – human prayer. This has resulted in some friction at times with her famous father, actor Jon Voight, who is a devout Catholic and has even played Pope John Paul II on the big screen.
Though once estranged, Jolie is currently close to her father. I wonder how their conversations are going while she convalesces. Are they discussing God’s sense of humor? Or perhaps his capacity to remind us that we are not in control? It seems to me that as we speculate on the nature of God, we should not be surprised when he attempts to explain himself to us, even if he does it by taking away something we want very badly right after he gives us exactly what we need.

According to The Guardian today, over 20,000 people have complained about an upcoming DiscoverTV show (December 7) in which Paul Rosolie dons a “snake-proof suit” and allows himself to be eaten alive by a large anaconda snake.

The Discovery channel has assured viewers that the snake is not harmed in the stunt, but the volume of complaints has prompted them to make an official statement due shortly, possibly involving pulling the show.

As Pistol Pete posted earlier today, some unusually slavish behavior happened at last night’s fundraiser at Gwyneth Paltrow’s estate in Brentwood, California. This event was so fawning that even the Hollywood smut merchant TMZ has begun to bemoan that the once-respectable Office of the President of the United States has become seriously damaged.
The idiocy of Hollywood was in full bloom Thursday night when Gwyneth Paltrow turned an already-embarrassing Hollywood fundraiser into “The Dating Game.”
Paltrow — who hosted the event at her Brentwood home — gushed as she introduced President Obama, “You’re so handsome that I can’t speak properly.”
She then showed utter ignorance about, and contempt for, the Constitution and separation of powers — the basic tenets of our government — by saying, “It would be wonderful if we were able to give this man all of the power that he needs to pass the things that he needs to pass.”
It’s the latest example of how demeaning it has become for Presidents to act like circus animals — performing for crowds that will feed them … in this case, feed them with money to line political coffers.
It’s revolting that celebrities and other rich people feel such a need for self-importance — contributing money but ONLY if they can have their picture taken with the president and tell their friends they had dinner with him. If they’re so committed to him, just send him a check and let him stay in Washington and do his job.
Oh my. [Image by Salon.com.]
