“Caring” Democrats?

Yesterday, the Senate voted down a House joint resolution entitled Honoring our Promise to America’s Veterans Act.

Today, Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said they will also vote down the bill to provide funding to NIH which helps children with cancer:

Reporter: But if you could help one child who has cancer, why wouldn’t you do it?

Reid: Why would we want to do that?

Please keep in mind that:

A. Democrats have flatly refused to negotiate in any way whatsoever, despite the Republican “obsession” with this bill that a majority of Americans did not want WHEN IT WAS PASSED and which a BIGGER majority of Americans do not want NOW.

B. Ever since Obama first took office in January 2009, Democrats have blocked every attempt by Republicans in Congress to fulfill the ONE JOB the Congress is legally required to do … PASS A BUDGET.

C. All this haggling over Continuing Resolutions is about keeping the money (debting) flowing at the ridiculous rate that Democrats established in 2009, a rate that is very rapidly sending the United States of America into bankruptcy.

The shamefulness of “Barrycades”

2013_10 01 WWII memorial barrycaded

The National Park Service confirmed that they had been INSTRUCTED TO CLOSE OFF ACCESS to the open-air, ordinarily unmanned World War II Memorial on the Washington Mall and POST GUARDS to prevent an expected group of World War II veterans from visiting the monument and laying their wreath. Many of the veterans are in their eighties and nineties.

2013_10 01 WWII vets storm the memorial

Ten other states are expected to bring veterans to the nation’s capitol this week. Honor Flight organizers said that planning for each once-in-a-lifetime veterans tour takes months to organize and tens of thousands of dollars in donations. They have no intention of abiding by this ridiculous restriction.

I heard that Obama threatened to have anyone trying to enter the World War II Memorial area ARRESTED and one site reported that seven officials were dispatched Wednesday morning to keep vets out. That would be two more security officials than the State Department had in Benghazi a year ago on the night of the terrorist attack that killed four, including the U.S. ambassador.

But the latest word is that the park police have decided to call visiting the memorial a “First Amendment” activity. ::snort:: Good save, guys. The White House declined to comment, leaving the flunkies on the front lines to take all the heat … AS USUAL.

How totally petty and political was the “Barrycading” of the WWII Memorial? Check out what they put up at the World War I Memorial. Anybody can walk in there cuz you know … those vets  are all DEAD. Democrats only care about pissing on LIVING veterans.

2013_10 01 WWI Memorial

Sarah Palin posted: “The President is treating our veterans the same way he treated school kids when he cancelled their White House tours. When times called for obvious government belt-tightening, he took it out on kids rather than look for anything that would affect him personally.

And while our vets are barricaded from the memorial they built with their heroism, the government “slim down” won’t affect Obama’s golf game or his family’s White House chefs.

Meanwhile, Republicans in Congress are attempting to fund the Veterans Administration and other essential functions, but Democrats are blocking them because they want to make any slim down look as awful as possible in order to deflect from what this whole slim down thing is about, which is their Obamacare train wreck.

Good Congressmen are fighting for average middle class Americans to get the same breaks that Obama gave Congress, his pals, union bosses, and crony corporations who financed his campaign and snookered the media into putting him in office.

It is a sad day when We the People have to go cap in hand to the president begging him to give us the same relief he gave his friends by fiat. Thank God we have bold leaders willing to fight for those who can’t afford to pay powerful lobbyists to make Obama and Harry Reid listen.”

What’s in a name?

“That which we call a rose, by any other name, would smell as sweet.”   Or would it?  You hear mumblings from time to time about the importance of naming legislation and how this can work either for or against politicians when looking at their voting records.  Well, I happened across this little gem of a video, both entertaining and sad, that illustrates this point very well.  It gives a pretty clear idea of why you won’t catch me referring to Obamacare as the Affordable Care Act any time soon!

Day One: ObamaCare sign-up report

Obama tweeted: “The Affordable Care Act is moving forward. You can’t shut it down.”

Actually … we didn’t need to, because ObamaCare’s federal and state health exchange websites worked about as much as … well, Obama does.

2013_10 01 Healthcare dot gov down

  • 12:48 AM – 1 Oct 2013: Looks like no one in Oklahoma is going to be getting obamacare today!
  • 1:46 AM – 1 Oct 2013: DC’s health exchange link does not have an “apply” button yet.
  • 1:46 AM – 1 Oct 2013: Maryland isn’t allowing people to sign up or browse.
  • 2:26 AM – 1 Oct 2013: Day one obamacare: the oregon exchange is down!

2013_10 01 No chat site

  • 5:26 AM – 1 Oct 2013: California Obamacare Exchange Offline

Good News: HealthCare dot gov is no longer down.

Bad News: HealthCare dot gov still does not actually function.

  • 7:44 AM – 1 Oct 2013: @HealthCareGov Live Chat keeps customer waiting 35 minutes, then tells him they already know Step 3 is broken.
  • 7:50 AM – 1 Oct 2013: @HealthCareGov does not work. They know this. But they still have the website live. Idiots.
  • 7:53 AM – 1 Oct 2013: @HealthCareGov @WhiteHouse you could use social media to say, “Our site doesn’t work right so don’t waste time”

But noooooooooooooooooo ….

  • 8:12 AM – 1 Oct 2013: @HealthCareGov “Important: Your account couldnt be created at this time. The system is unavailable.”
  • 8:15 AM – 1 Oct 2013: @HealthCareGov doesn’t work, there’s no email link, doesn’t recognize log in, etc.
  • 8:59 AM – 1 Oct 2013: @HealthCareGov sign-up process asked for security questions; offered literally zero, but demanded answers to them.

2013_10 01 Wasting your time

Oh the irony … “please be patient” repeated ad nauseum while waiting to sign up for health insurance.

2013_10 01 Incompetence

Rightwired tweeted: “I can’t tell you how many sites I’ve built and launched..and you test, retest, retest, retest, then stress test over and over and over. It’s the most basic thing there is. Their incompetence is staggering.”

  • 11:42 AM – 1 Oct 2013: Colorado shut down the “create account” function “to ensure a smooth shopping process.”

Connecticut’s site worked. Except nobody much wanted to buy anything. And it was really glitchy.

2013_10 01 CT Obamacare site tweet

An hour later, they had TWO MORE enrollees!! Oohhhh, ahhhh.

Maybe the reason they aren’t closing deals is that the cheapest plan for 27-yr old earning $30K is $130/month … which is 67% higher than cheapest plan prior to Obamacare. But hey … you can keep your doctor (if you can find him).

What You Need to Know About a Government Shutdown

2013_10 01 Democrats did this

What You Need to Know About a Government Shutdown by Congressman Jack Kingston (GA)

Why Are We Here?

In accordance with Article I, Section 9, Clause 7 of the United States Constitution, “no money shall be drawn from the Treasury but in consequence of Appropriations made by law.” The law under which government is currently funded expires at midnight on Monday, September 30.

What Has the House Done?

The House, committed to preventing a government shutdown, has passed three temporary spending measures called ‘continuing resolutions’ which would keep the government open. The first continuing resolution repealed Obamacare, while the second delayed the plan for a year and included conscience protection. The House passed a third compromise measure including a one year delay of the individual mandate, pushing the President, Vice President, and political appointees into the system and removing all taxpayer subsidies for the President, Vice President, Members, and staff.

What Has the Senate Done?

The Senate refused to work this weekend while the House remained in session and Senate Democrats have refused to work with the House to reach agreement. Instead, they have flatly rejected the House’s efforts to prevent a shutdown and refused to offer compromise.

What Has the President Done?

President Obama has refused to engage in negotiations with Congress, opting instead to golf on a taxpayer-funded course over the weekend. While his own Administration has exempted several portions of the law by executive fiat, he refuses to extend those same protections to the American people.

What Shuts Down?

“Non-excepted” parts of the government will be closed, including the Smithsonian museums, national monuments, national parks, and Capitol tours. Certain services such as the expedition of a passport would also cease.

What Stays Open?

Sectors of government deemed “excepted” will continue to conduct business. Therefore, programs written into permanent law (Social Security), functions pertaining to national security or public safety continue to operate.

Does Congress Get Paid?

Members of Congress are paid under constitutional law, and “excepted” congressional staff members receive payment in the form of back pay once the shutdown is over. Other essential federal employees continue to work and have historically received payment after a delay, although it is not guaranteed.

What About Our Troops?

On Saturday, the House unanimously approved a bill proposed by Congressman Kingston along with Reps. Mike Coffman (R-CO), Louie Gohmert (R-TX), and Tom Latham (R-IA) to ensure the payment of our troops and supporting civilian employees or contractors in the event of a government shutdown. On Monday, the Senate followed up with passage by unanimous consent.

About that debt limit

Obama says Republicans are forcing an “all or nothing” vote on Obamacare and the federal debt.

That’s a blatant lie.

  • The Republican-majority House voted for “all but Obamacare.”
  • The Democrat-majority Senate voted for “all or nothing.”
