Maduro

The operation to capture and extradite Maduro, code named Absolute Resolve, consisted of a helicopter-borne raid on the Venezuelan capital city of Caracas. The incursion that followed used 170 aircraft and was the culmination of months of preparation and weeks of waiting for the perfect window of opportunity.

Department of War Secretary Pete Hegseth said, “[Maduro] F’d around and he found out.”

“Voice from a Venezuelan” posted, “As a Venezuelan, I can say this plainly: much of the left leaning media is going to aggressively twist this story. What needs to be understood is that when the bombs fell, they struck only military bases and an international airport that had already been closed, with all international flights suspended.

“Many Venezuelans did not panic, they cheered from their homes when they saw the helicopters. This was not random or uninformed support. Roughly 75% of Venezuelans voted for María Corina Machado, backing her platform and her openly stated plan to pursue cooperation with the United States, including the possibility of U.S. intervention, to remove Nicolás Maduro from power in exchange for reopening Venezuela to free trade.

After Maduro lost the 2024 Venezuelan election but refused to vacate the office, Biden offered a $25 million bounty on Maduro’s head.

Rep. Melanie Stansbury [D-NM-1] tweeted, “Overnight the U.S. President ordered the invasion of Venezuela and capture of its President. While Maduro clearly is a corrupt and illegitimate thug who oversaw the destabilization and suffering of millions, the fact remains that the U.S. President is acting on authority he does not have.”

Stansbury is wrong. The U.S. President has the constitutional authority as Commander in Chief (Article II, Section 2) to order limited military strikes, particularly in response to threats, to protect U.S. interests, or for defensive purposes, without prior congressional approval. The strike to capture Maduro reportedly took 30 minutes.

Rasmussen’s numbers on January 2 were significantly different. They come from a 5 day rolling average covering 1,500 “Likely Voters” (300 per day) and have a Margin of Error of 2.5%. IOW, a slightly larger sample with a slightly better MOE.

Strongly Approve 29% + Approve 15% = 44% Total Approval

Strongly Disapprove 44% + Disapprove 10% = 54% Total Disapproval

The sizable gaposis in these results leaves me boggled. So far as I am aware, when one looks at how well pre-election polls have matched actual election outcomes, Trafalgar and Rasmussen have been among the most accurate of all political pollsters. So what’s going on?!

Ninth Day of Christmas

CHICOMS: In yet another example of how stupid top-down government can be, China’s draconian one-child policy has resulted in a culture where couples don’t want more than one child.

According to Grok, China would need roughly 15–20 million babies per year sustained over decades to stabilize the national population at its current level of 1.4 billion. However, they only produced about 9.5 million new babies in 2024.

The government is trying to boost the birth rate by taxing contraceptives and offering tax incentives for child-bearing. Given that they abort between 9 million and 10 million pregnancies annually, I’m thinking they could fix the problem faster if they stopped killing their unborn.

New Year’s Eve

MINNESOTA: In other news, Minnesota has taken voter fraud to new heights, having passed a law that allows a single registered voter bring up to 8 unregistered people to a voting station on Election Day. These 8 people need not provide any standard documents (like a driver’s license or utility bill) provided the single registered voter signs a paper vouching for them.

The one and only limitation is that someone who has become a registered voter by this vouching process may not turn around and vouch for others on that same day. Presumably, now being registered voters (who never produced a scrap of identification), those 8 could vouch for 64 new voters at the next election … and those 64 could vouch for 512 at the following election … and so on.

And just to add insult to injury, the original voter need not have been a citizen, since a Minnesota state law – signed by Gov. Tim Walz in 2023 – provides driver’s licenses regardless of immigration status. The law forbids the licenses carry any markings to indicate citizenship status and said driver’s licenses can be used to provide a name and an address for individuals to register to vote.

Feast of St. John the Beloved

I saw the clip earlier this week and thought it was so imbecilic that it had to be a clickbait prank. It turns out I was wrong. Ramos actually posted it on her own Instagram with the following “pat on her own back” narration.

“The pronatalist movement, a movement that encourages people to have more babies is once again gaining momentum in the far right. Remember, Trump said he wants to be the ‘president of fertility.’

“Malcolm and Simone Collins, who are big Trump supporters, are two of the main leaders of this movement, which includes people like Elon Musk as well as individuals that believe in the Great Replacement Theory or religious leaders. It’s a big, complex and growing movement, particularly now that it has political allies.

“For the Collins, who want to have 12 children, the mass production of genetically selected humans is part of the key to ‘saving civilization.’ They use it to screen for cancer (runs in the family) as well as IQ. Although they vehemently deny being white supremacists, some of their practices and their preachings recall the dark era of eugenics.”

DAILY PRAYER: O eternal Shepherd, look favorably upon Your flock, and guard it by Your continual protection through Blessed Stephen, Your Martyr. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

ECONOMY: Since Trump took office, our GDP growth rate has jumped from 2.3% to 4.3%, a rate increase of 79%. An internal White House memo circulated last week said the change was due to

  1. Enacting a sweeping tax and budget bill, dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which proponents say has boosted business investment and disposable income.
  2. Raising tariffs on imported goods, an effort the administration says has helped narrow the trade deficit and stimulate domestic manufacturing.
  3. Rolling back regulations across energy, banking, and environmental sectors to reduce compliance burdens and spur corporate activity.
  4. Lowering energy prices, particularly oil and gas, as part of a broader “energy independence” push, which the administration says has lowered business costs and spurred consumption.
  5. Reducing interest rates, a goal the administration has publicly advocated for, arguing that lower borrowing costs will further stimulate investment and consumer spending.

EDUCATION: Last May, he Trump administration ended the COVID pause on student loan repayments and began collecting on the debts by withholding tax refunds and other federal payments to the 5 million borrowers in default. Beginning in the first week of January, the department said that it will begin garnishing wages as well.

[12:55] – On December 17, 2025, DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson signed an executive order stating that the COVID state of emergency is officially ending and that all employees will need to return to the office, with some hybrid work allowed.

“This executive order marks an important step forward for DeKalb County. It confirms the end of the emergency period while putting in place a work plan that balances flexibility with responsibility and ensures we continue to deliver reliable, high-quality services to our residents.”

As of Jan. 5, all county offices under the CEO’s supervision will be staffed during regular business hours.

“In-person service matters. Having staff present in our offices strengthens accountability, collaboration, and efficiency across county government and improves the experience for the people we serve.”

The order allows eligible employees to work remotely if their jobs can be performed remotely. The order also confirms that wearing face masks is permitted but not required absent a new public health emergency.
