AMERICAN HISTORY: On October 19, 1781, British forces under General Charles Cornwallis sign terms of surrender to George Washington and Comte de Rochambeau at Yorktown at 2 p.m., effectively ending the American Revolutionary War.

CATHOLIC: Evangelicals believe that, in order to be saved, you must accept Christ as your personal Savior through sincere prayer, asking Him to come into your heart and forgive your sins.

During the Catholic Mass, everyone prays –

“I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do.”

“Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.”

“I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God … For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.”

By Evangelical standards, any Catholic who has sincerely prayed even one Mass is saved.

DOUBLE STANDARDS: You know the saying … if they didn’t have double standards, they would have no standards at all.

MAHA: This is well worth your time. [11:29] – HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) involves doing your cardio hard enough to pant, then slowing down until breathing is normal, then repeating. When I am at the gym, I like to warm up on the elliptical by going backwards, which uses different muscles than forwards. When I’m ready, I switch to forward and go as hard as I can until I’m panting, then I get off the machine and walk around on the floor until I’m breathing normally. Then, I do one of the weight machines to improve my bone density, an important consideration at my age. After my reps, I repeat the elliptical and cool down walk, then move on to another machine and repeat until I’m done.

GRAMMY NOTES: Yesterday morning, I noticed frost and wanted to take a picture of my petunias before the sun hit and melted the delicate crystals. I very stupidly went out on to the deck, which was a veritable skating rink and fell. Thankfully, nothing is broken, including the camera. Mostly, I’m very sore and really angry with myself. It was so frightening to be out there in my nightgown, knowing Dearest was at church. I had to crawl to get back inside. It hurt. I hurt. Don’t fall.

AMERICAN HISTORY: On October 6, 1927, “The Jazz Singer,” directed by Alan Crosland and starring Al Jolson and May McAvoy, was released as the first film with a synchronized (if partial) soundtrack. It marked the end of the silent film era.

ARIANISM: In the fourth century, Arius of Alexandria preached that God the Father is the only unbegotten God, that He created Jesus, then adopted Him as His son. According to Arius, Jesus is to be worshiped only because of His preeminence as the first creation. This was declared heresy by the Council of Nicaea in 325AD. LIFE: On Sept. 14, an unprecedented wrongful-death case called Wabbington v. Boyd was settled and dismissed with prejudice. The defendants were two late-term abortionists who were found liable for having aborted a 26-week-old viable fetus while the mother was under the influence of methamphetamine and could not give valid informed consent. The abortionists knew the mother was high, but performed the abortion anyway. They and their clinic, Southwestern Women’s Options, have been ordered to pay $200,000 to the dead child’s estate.

MEDICARE: On Oct 2, Trump announced his administration will be using the Medicare Improvement Fund this month to help ease seniors’ health care costs. Congress allocated $2 billion for this purpose, but never delivered any of it. Trump says this month, eligible seniors will receive $90 payments, either by direct deposit or check. Most Medicare Part B enrollees are eligible for the payments, except those whose premiums are already paid by Medicaid or who pay an income-related monthly adjustment amount. I think that means us, but I won’t hold my breath, in case it’s not.

GRAMMY NOTES: In April 2019, five-year-old Landen Hoffman was visiting the Mall of America in Minnesota with his family when a stranger suddenly picked him up and threw him more than 40 feet from a third-floor balcony. The boy suffered skull fractures and multiple broken bones. Many feared the worst.

Yet after seven months of recovery, Landen was walking normally and back in kindergarten with a bright smile. His family shared that the young boy often told people who were hurt: “Don’t worry, I fell off a cliff but angels caught me and Jesus loves me, so I’m okay and you will be too!”

In 2016, I woke in hospital, disoriented and needing to pee. It was dark and I forgot I was hooked to monitors and an IV. When I jumped out of bed to run to the bathroom, I tripped and fell like a log, face first, to the floor. I swear that my angel caught me, because it felt like I landed on a big, fat body pillow. I didn’t even have a bruise.

HAPPINESS: Habits that contribute to happiness include:

In the end, the goal is not to pursue happiness, but rather to pursue meaning. Happiness is like a piece of fruit that grows on the tree of meaning. If separated from the tree, it will rot and die. But if we find the tree, the fruit will be there, full and healthy.

SEAL OF CONFESSION: In a unanimous ruling on August 12, the Arizona Supreme Court decided that not every conversation with a pastor qualifies as a protected “confession.”

The case involved a former Baptist pastor accused of sexually abusing a minor. He admitted guilt during a conversation with a co-pastor that was secretly recorded. He later tried to block the recording from being used in court by claiming clergy-penitent privilege.

The court ruled that, for the privilege to apply, the communication must include an admission of fault, sin, or crime made specifically to seek spiritual forgiveness, absolution, consolation, or guidance.

Simply talking to a pastor or admitting wrongdoing is not enough.

This ruling does not touch the absolute seal of the Sacrament of Confession. The Church’s teaching remains unchanged — the seal belongs to the sacrament itself and can never be broken or waived by anyone.

In the movie The Truman Show, Jim Carrey’s character is oblivious to the fact that every second of his life is being broadcast to a global audience. We often live with that same obliviousness.

When my children graduated high school, I put together a tribute video filled with highlight clips: ball games, awards, and family vacations. It was the “Director’s Cut.” I purposefully left the “bad takes”—the tantrums, the failures, and the mistakes—on the cutting room floor to protect the guilty.

But imagine if the footage wasn’t edited. Would you want a theater full of people watching a “Raw Cut” of your private moments? Every hidden failure, every secret sin, and every dark thought projected onto the big screen for all to see?

The reality is that our entire lives are being recorded by a holy God. On Judgment Day, the Bible says we will give an account of it all. That is a terrifying prospect, yet many people remain unconcerned. According to the American Worldview Inventory, 52% of self-identified Christians believe they will be accepted by God based on their own “good works.”

They are in for a tragic surprise. The Bible is clear: “There is none good, no, not one.” Our “good works” cannot cover our bad takes. The penalty for our sin is death, but God loved us enough to provide a way for those scenes to be edited out of the final cut.

When we repent and put our trust in Jesus, God produces the ultimate Director’s Cut. He removes our sins and replaces them with the perfect record of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection. Years ago, I asked Jesus to become the Producer, Director, and Editor of my life. It was the best decision I ever made.

If you don’t want to face the “Raw Cut” of your life on Judgment Day, put your faith in the one who can edit your story.

AMERICAN HISTORY: On March 1, 1971, a bomb exploded in the Capitol building in Washington, D.C., causing an estimated $300,000 in damage. The Weather Underground claimed responsibility. In his 2001 memoir, Fugitive Days, former Weatherman and long-time Obama supporter, Bill Ayers, claimed he had been involved.

The “Weathermen” were a radical, violent faction of the Marxist Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). The group, which favored arson and bombings as a means of protesting what they perceived to be wrong with American society, detonated bombs at the U.S. State Department and at the Pentagon, as well as dozens of other sites across the U.S. Their bombs were always preceded by telephoned warnings and the only casualties were three of their own who were killed while make explosives in 1969.

TRANS: Former New Hampshire state Rep. Stacie Laughton was lauded as the first openly transgender person to be elected to a state legislature. After his former partner, Lindsay Groves, admitted taking sexually explicit photos of male and female children, ages 3 to 5 years, at the Massachusetts day care where she worked and sending them to Laughton, he pleaded guilty. Officials say Laughton asked Groves for the photos and the two exchanged more than 10,000 text messages about them, then showed them to other adults. In one of the texts, Laughton allegedly wrote about having oral sex with a girl, only to have Groves note, “She’s not even 3 yet.” Laughton replied, “Do you think God would be OK with me being a minister?” to which Groves replied, “I think God will be OK with all of that.” Laughton was supposed to have been sentenced on February 12, 2026, but the details have not been made public.

His report went to my primary who never mentioned it. At my intake, the PA looked up the ‘oscopy report and images and told me they showed I had a hiatal hernia, esophageal erosion, and bowel impaction! I’m still not sure how any of that adds up to “fine.” I worked with her for 6 months to get my digestion working properly. When I asked my primary why he hadn’t told me I had esophageal erosion, he looked genuinely shocked and quickly called up the test results on his computer. He had never looked at them, but had just taken the “everything was fine” summary at face value.

AMERICAN HISTORY: On February 25, 1913, the 16th Amendment (income tax) took effect. Prior to this, most federal revenue came from tariffs rather than taxes.

In this context. “angels” are the thousands of American lives stolen by illegal aliens. CHURCH INVASION: A federal grand jury in Minnesota indicted nine individuals on felony charges, including conspiracy against rights of religious freedom at a place of worship and injuring, intimidating, or interfering with the exercise of religious freedom (via force, threat, or obstruction). All nine have pleaded not guilty and the cases are proceeding to trial. [8:25] – Jonathan Parnell, the pastor of the church that Don Lemon et al. invaded on January 18, has spoken about his experience. He said he had been attempting to read aloud from the Bible when “several individuals scattered throughout the sanctuary rose together and, like a flash mob, converged with chants and clenched fists.” When the mob shouted, “Hands up! Don’t shoot!” that led worshipers to flee, “fearing it was an active shooter situation.”

“In that instant, I interpreted what was going on: this was about provocation, intimidation, and spectacle. They were here to incite violence. The spiritual dimension of it all came into focus. A malevolent darkness was behind this—the same darkness behind the murder of pre-born children, and the mutilation of children’s bodies, and the manipulation of children’s minds. Those were all evils our children had escaped, so now the weapon was terror.

“The agitators screamed in our faces and said we weren’t a real church. They harassed individuals for their ethnicity and ‘uttered all kinds of evil’ against us falsely. They spewed lies upon lies, and our refusal to retaliate seemed only to frustrate them.”

HOW JESUS DID IT: [16:28] – I wish I’d heard this 50 years ago. I grew up with bullies and vowed to never be one, because I knew first hand how much it hurt. But I believed my only other option was to suck it up and be a silent, smiling doormat. In therapy, I finally learned about boundaries, but it was not in a biblical context. However, what my therapist taught me amounted to what Kris says here – refusing retaliation while confronting rather than submitting to the abuse. One of the beauties of doing this has been that it quickly exposed which people were worth keeping in my life. The bullies and narcissists responded to boundary setting by icing me out. The genuinely lovely people responded with dialogue and relational growth.

Just one quibble … every translation I looked at translates it “sun” of righteousness, not “son” as the caption says. However, the “kanaph” part is accurate. I like the added idea of Jesus’ arms spread on the cross combined with the following:

VERMONT: In Burlington, Vermont, the public transit has had to drastically cut service, because their brand new fleet of EV buses can’t be charged. Because the batteries sometimes spontaneously combust, they can’t be parked indoors. And because they can’t be recharged when temperatures are below 40°F.

VOTER ID: Actually, it is not Schumer’s IQ that is the problem. It’s his lying tongue. Jim Crow (literacy) laws were passed by Democrats to keep newly freed, mostly illiterate slaves from voting, not because they were black, but because they overwhelming supported “the party of Lincoln” – i.e., the Republican Party. If illegals and other cheaters were voting Republican, Democrats would be demanding voter id.

GRAMMY NOTES: [3:06] – The idea of God holding my right hand felt constricting to me, because I imagined it like a child whose parent is holding the hand to control, e.g., while crossing the street. In that position, one can not use the dominant hand. But while I was listening to this video, I suddenly saw in my mind’s eye how Mama Buzz uses “hand-over-hand” with Buzz to help him learn a new skill. She doesn’t grip his hand, palm-to-palm, but rather places her palm lightly on the back of his hand; her hand is holding his, but it is not to constrain his actions, but rather to gently guide them.

GRAMMY NOTES: I am reposting the meditation about alignment that I posted yesterday, because it really hit me where I live. I have been thinking and praying about it a lot. I have wasted far too many of the hours God has given me brooding over the past and fearing for the future.

There are times and reasons to think about the past or to plan for the future, but as C.S. Lewis has pointed out, those times and reasons are only aligned with God’s will when they are the legitimate business of the present. Our lives only intersect with eternity in the now. The past is fixed; the futures we imagine may or may not happen. Our holy task is to focus on being aligned with God’s will in each present moment.

When I imagine each of us being one of those little iron filings, I have to laugh at how futile it is to think we can see God’s pattern and meaning for our lives from our perspective. Only He can see the whole pattern. Our entire job is merely to align ourselves with His will so that we take our proper places in that pattern.
