Bits & Bytes

CATHOLIC HISTORY: On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther sent his Ninety-five Theses to Albert of Brandenburg, Archbishop of Mainz. Although they addressed only the selling of indulgences, something the then-devout Catholic priest correctly sought to stop, the incident is considered the start of the so-called Protestant Reformation. The actual reformation of the Catholic Church occurred between 1545 and 1563 at the Ecumenical Council at Trent.

DOUBLE STANDARDS: You know the saying … if they didn’t have double standards, they would have no standards at all.

EVERYDAY HEROES: [3:29] – This feel-good story is all “no tricks, just treats.” You might need a tissue. My only complaint is that I want to buy the book, but I can’t find it.

FAFO: Salim Said sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role the $250 million “Feeding Our Future” fraud scheme. Said, a restaurant owner during COVID, applied for pandemic relief moneys, claiming he was feeding thousands of poor children every day, which he wasn’t. He was just pocketing the money, which the court has ordered him to repay.

MAHA: The Halloween edition of “The Real Food Show.” [17:57] – One year, we tossed our old Jack O’Lanterns into our then-open compost pile. Apparently, we had not cleaned all the seeds out, because we got a surprise crop of pumpkins the next year.

SOCIALISM: Dylan Alverson decided to prove that socialism works. He took all the prices off his Minneapolis restaurant’s menu and declared he would feed anyone who walked in the door. Neighbors began to be crowded out of the restaurant by people who could not pay and who lingered around the restaurant all day. Complaints mounted of open drug use, theft, discarded needles in the alley and overdoses on the sidewalk. After a series of contentious community meetings, Alverson closed the restaurant in July for a few weeks, then reopened in August with prices back on the menu.

UK: CLICK https://x.com/brenkav/status/2114105810020425855 [2:16] to see the video of the Bedford Borough Council investigator responding to a complaint about an illegal cafe. @ju25378 posted, “I’ve said it before. The reason Monty Python isn’t funny anymore is because we live in the world they created. The surreal is the new normal.”

GRAMMY NOTES: I wonder if this comes with the 24/7 drug-dealing husband-nurse I had after my real surgery.
