AI Chatbots and Our Kids and Grandkids

[2:42] – I had no idea what a “chatbot” was, so I asked Grok, “How do kids get involved with chatbots?” Silly me. Grok is a chatbot. In fact, I have already had my “whoa” moment with Grokkie, whose chatty style suckered me into interacting with it as if it were another human on the ‘net. After I caught myself calling it “he”, saying “please” and “thank you” and feeling like I needed to explain why I wanted to know something, I stopped using it for a few days. It is a helpful tool; I used it extensively to put together my Lying Liars blogs. But it is a MACHINE that was programmed by people whose beliefs and agendas may not be compatible with my own. Point being … the information below isn’t just for your kids and grandkids!

Below are the tips and resources Grok pulled up to help us use AI safely and effectively. The graphics are screenshots from the MIT article linked at the bottom.

Safe and Fun Ways for Kids to Get Involved with Chatbots

Chatbots are AI-powered conversational tools. Some examples are Grok and ChatGPT. Kid-friendly versions can spark curiosity, boost creativity, and teach problem-solving, but they can also sometimes give inaccurate info, perpetuate biases, or lead to over-reliance if unsupervised.

Always involve parents or guardians, use age-appropriate platforms, and start with short sessions (10-15 minutes). Aim for educational or playful use, not endless chatting. Below, I’ll outline practical ways kids (roughly ages 8-14) can engage, based on expert-recommended activities from educators and tech organizations.

1. Start with Simple Interactions (Ages 8-10)

  • Play Games and Ask Questions: Treat the chatbot like a trivia buddy. Ask for jokes, riddles, or “20 Questions” (e.g., “Guess what animal I’m thinking of”). This builds critical thinking by spotting when the bot gets things wrong. Kid-safe platforms like Grok (on x.com or apps) or Google Bard have built-in games; avoid open-ended “companions” like Character.AI, which recently banned under-18s due to safety risks.
  • Storytelling Sessions: Prompt the bot for story starters (e.g., “Write a short adventure about a kid inventor”). Kids can add their own twists, fostering imagination. Tools like AI Dungeon offer moderated versions for this.
  • Tip: Sit side-by-side with an adult to discuss responses(e.g., “Why do you think the bot said that?”)

2. Educational Chats for Learning (Ages 10-12)

  • Homework Helpers: Use chatbots for brainstorming, not copying answers. Ask “Explain photosynthesis like I’m 10” or “Give me three fun facts about dinosaurs.” This encourages research skills and fact-checking. Apps like SchoolAI let teachers create custom bots for subjects like science experiments or history quizzes.
  • Language Practice: Chat in another language (e.g., “Teach me basic Spanish greetings”) or role-play scenarios like ordering food. This simulates real conversations without pressure.
  • Reading Buddies: Bots can “discuss” books to build interest—e.g., “What would happen next in this story?” Studies show this boosts situational interest in reading. sciencedirect.com
  • Tip: Set rules like “Always check facts with a book or trusted site,” and use platforms with parental controls (e.g., Microsoft Edge’s Bing Chat).

3. Hands-On Creation (Ages 12+)

  • Build Your Own Bot: No advanced coding needed! Use free tools like Scratch (from MIT) to make a simple chatbot that answers questions on a topic like space or pets. Tutorials guide kids through “if-then” logic. Platforms like Code.org or Tynker offer drag-and-drop AI projects, like a guessing game bot.
  • Real-World Projects: Design a bot for school events (e.g., fundraiser orders) or environmental tips (e.g., “How can I reduce plastic waste?”). This teaches ethics, like considering user needs and AI limits.
  • Advanced Fun: Experiment with text-to-speech in Scratch to make talking bots, or join online challenges from sites like Create & Learn.
  • Tip: Start small—focus on mechanics first, then add personality. Share creations with family for feedback.

Essential Safety Rules for Parents

  • Supervise Always: Monitor chats to avoid sensitive topics; bots can mimic empathy but aren’t therapists.
  • Teach Critical Thinking: Discuss biases (e.g., “Why might the bot overlook certain cultures?”) and ethics (don’t use for homework cheating).
  • Limit Time & Avoid Companions: Stick to 20-30 minutes/day. Recent laws and bans (e.g., on Character.AI) highlight risks of emotional dependency.
  • Privacy First: Use incognito modes or kid accounts; never share personal info.

BEAUTY BREAK: [3:18] – Nisha is an inspiration.

BOLTON: On October 16, John Bolton, who served as President Donald Trump’s national security adviser during the president’s first term, was indicted on 18 counts under the Espionage Act. Federal prosecutors allege that between April 9, 2018 and August 22, 2025, Bolton shared more than a thousand pages of information about his day-to-day activities as the National Security Advisor including information relating to the national defense which was classified up to the TOP SECRET/SCI level — with two unauthorized individuals.

CLICK https://x.com/alx/status/1978970564107657261 [:25] to hear Bolton say that Trump possibly having mishandled classified information was “a very serious crime.” Now that he’s been indicted on the same charges, he’s saying, “I have become the latest target in weaponizing the Justice Department to charge those he deems to be his enemies.” The old Democrat two step: Rules for thee but not for me.

CALIFORNICATION: California is the only state that has refused to require commercial truck drivers speak English. CLICK https://x.com/SecDuffy/status/1978595805603774732 [1:15] to hear SecTrans Duffy explain that this is a long-standing rule that wasn’t being enforced. Trump has ordered that $40 million in state aid be withheld from California until they get on board. If Newsom is so concerned about his people being able to drive trucks, he should sponsor a massive ESL program to get them up to speed.

DEMOCRATS: Republicans put forward a stand-alone bill to ensure military pay during the shutdown. The only Senate Democrats to cross the aisle to vote with the GOP were Sens. John Fetterman (PA), Catherine Cortez Masto (NV), and Jeanne Shaheen (NH).

EDUCATION: [3:43] – This UNC-Asheville student joined both College Democrats and Turning Point USA.

EVERYDAY HEROES: “This woman, Kaylen, at Sports Clips in Charleston did more for my heart than she will probably ever realize. Haircuts with Isaiah are no small feat. He hates having anything near his ears, the sound of clippers sends him into a tailspin…this evening was no different. I was ready to give up, but she wasn’t. She sat on the floor with my baby in her lap, and she cut his hair. They talked about Dory and Christmas, and she even let him spray her with her water bottle. Autism can be so very, very hard, but people like this make our days just a little easier.” Credit: Jennifer McCafferty

ICE: During a three-day operation in September along Interstate 40 in Oklahoma, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents detained 120 illegal immigrants for immigration-related offenses. At least 91 of them held a commercial driver’s license (CDL*)and were operating a commercial motor vehicle.

*A CDL allows a driver to operate a large, hazardous, or heavy motor vehicle for business purposes, including tractor trailers, tank trucks, and buses.

MILITARY: SecDef Pete has ordered some of the National Guardsmen who deployed to Illinois to go back home cuz they’re fat, not fit.

SMITH: On October 16, a group of GOP lawmakers, led by Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, asking her office to refer former special counsel Jack Smith to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for alleged misconduct and possible disbarment. Their complaint centers on Smith having engaged in a “weaponized witch hunt” during which the Biden DOJ subpoenad their cell phone records.

SPIRITUAL WARFARE: The monastery where St. Carlo Acutis received his First Holy Communion in 1998 was almost completely destroyed by fire on October 11. The 21 cloistered nuns who live in the 17th century facility outside Milan escaped without harm and were able to save some paintings and a relic of the saint. The cause of the blaze is unknown.

During the discussion, my sibs said lunch theft from lockers was not uncommon in the high school. My father opined that he’d make a dog doo sandwich and put that in his locker.

WOMEN’S SPORTS: After three years of courtroom battles, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is finally doing the right thing and stripping “Lia” Thomas of all of his swimming medals.

BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL: Vice President JD Vance’s tie-breaking vote was needed to push the bill across the finish line in the Senate. It now goes back to the House to vote on whether or not the Senate’s changes are acceptable. Trump wants this thing done by July 4.

LANGUAGE LESSON: In America, cumin can be pronounced KUM-in or KYOO-min. However, the Brits say KUM-in or KOO-min. Since KUM-in is correct in either place, remember the parachute and you’ll get it right wherever you are.

PROPAGANDA: I asked Grok, Did Joseph Goebbels say, “If you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes accepted as truth”?

Grok replied, The line is commonly attributed to Joseph Goebbels, but there’s no definitive evidence he said or wrote these exact words. The phrase is often linked to Nazi propaganda tactics, reflecting Goebbels’ role as Hitler’s Propaganda Minister, where he emphasized repetition to shape public belief. However, the earliest known version of this idea predates Goebbels, appearing in a 1914 book by Kate Upson Clark, The Sting of the Wasp, which says, “If you only tell a lie long enough, often enough, and loud enough, it will finally be accepted as the truth.”

Some sources suggest the quote is a paraphrase of Goebbels’ broader propaganda philosophy, as he wrote in a 1941 article: “The English follow the principle that when one lies, one should lie big, and stick to it.” This aligns with the concept but isn’t a direct match. Posts on X and various web sources repeat the attribution to Goebbels, but historians and fact-checkers, like those at Snopes, note the lack of primary evidence for the exact quote. It’s possible the attribution grew from his reputation rather than a specific statement.

So, while the idea fits Goebbels’ methods, there’s no verified record of him saying this precise phrase. The quote likely evolved from earlier sources and his general approach to propaganda.

TARIFFS: The Department of Homeland Security has collected more than $106 billion in tariff revenue since President Trump took office, and most of that — $81.5 billion — is directly tied to the new levies the president has imposed on worldwide goods.

WHAT IS A WOMAN: [1:07] – Democrat Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer demanded the Republicans Big, Beautiful Bill be read on the Senate floor. In so doing, he entered the following into the Congressional Record – [T]he term ‘female’ means an individual who naturally has had, will have, or would have but for a developmental or genetic anomaly or historical accident, the reproductive system that at some point produces, transports, and utilize eggs for fertilization. … [T]he term ‘male’ means an individual who naturally has had, will have, or would have but for a developmental or genetic anomaly or historical accident, the reproductive system that at some point produces, transports, and utilizes sperm for fertilization.

DAILY PRAYER: Dear Lord, We ask your fullest possible blessings on President Trump as he navigates the situation with Iran and Israel. In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.

CANCEL CULTURE: CLICK https://www.facebook.com/reel/1945255805880699 to hear Rep. Wesley Hunt tell Bill Maher why he is proud to have lived in General Robert E. Lee Barracks at West Point.

DEMOCRATIC PARTY FINANCES: According to Elon Musk, the DNC was being funded by USAID and other NGOs that DOGE has shut down. In addition, only three large donors gave $100,000 or more to the DNC between January and April. As of the latest report, the DNC has $18 million, which is $4 million less than at the end of 2024.

Meanwhile, the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) funds grew by an astronomical $29 million between January and April of this year, bringing the current total to $67.4 million. Let us pray they use it to give Trump a solid MAGA majority in Congress next November so we won’t waste the rest of his precious second term fighting more ridiculous impeachment charges.

DETRANS: God bless the children who have been lied to and abused by this evil. – CLICK https://x.com/WesleyHuntTX/status/1936883157871235546 to hear Rep. Wesley Hunt do a sanity check.

FBI: DepDir Dan Bongino reported on two child sex stings. Operation “Restoring Justice” apprehended 205 child sex predators and 764 purveyors, while rescuing 115 children; Operation “Soteria Shield” apprehended 244 child predators and rescued 109 children.

HAMAS: The Israel Defense Forces reported on Saturday that Saeed Izadi, commander of the Palestine Corps in the Quds Force, was killed earlier that day during an Israeli strike in the city of Qom. The Iranian commander had, for years, helped arm and fund Hamas on behalf of the radical Islamic regime and was one of the orchestrators of the Oct. 7, 2023 unprovoked Hamas attack on Israel.

IRAN: CLICK https://x.com/FoxNews/status/1936834958489711062 [:41] to hear SecState Rubio talk about Trump’s attempts to avoid attacking. When a nation that regularly screams “Death to America!” develops nuclear weapons, how long do you think we would be safe? Trump saved a lot of lives.

UPDATE: The UN says there is no increase reported in off-site radiation levels following the strikes. I couldn’t find what kind of warheads our bunker buster bombs had, so I asked Grok. “The U.S. bunker buster bombs used on Iran’s nuclear facilities … contained conventional explosives.” Apparently, the concern about radiation was due to the fact that the facilities bombed were part of Iran’s nuclear weapons development program.

ISRAEL: [:37] – In June of 2017, Iran held anti-Israel rallies across the country. They also erected a huge digital countdown display in Tehran’s Palestine Square, counting down to when they say Israel will cease to exist. Israel just bombed it. Best comment: “May it rest in pieces.”

LONG MAY SHE WAVE: The White House has traditionally had a flagpole on the roof that flies the American flag 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Now it has three. President Trump personally funded the installation of two 100-foot flagpoles at the White House, costing a total of $100,000, which were erected last week on the North and South lawns; CLICK https://x.com/TrumpWarRoom/status/1935385099438027089 to see the first flag go up. It’s yuge!

STATE DEPARTMENT: Some time ago, the State Department warned Americans to stay out of Israel. Those Americans who were trapped there when hostilities began with Iran are being helped to evacuate. Birthright Israel, an educational organization, has evacuated 1,500 Americans aboard the Crown Iris, a luxury Israeli cruise ship sailing from Ashdod Port to Larnaca, Cyprus. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has helped evacuate hundreds of Americans with charter flights to Tampa, Florida.

Following the Iran strikes, the State Department expanded the travel advisory to the entire Middle East, because “there is potential for demonstrations against U.S. citizens and interests abroad.

SCOTUS: The Supremes voted 7–2 to allow fuel producers to sue California over its tough vehicle emissions standards which Trump has said was the state’s “attempt to impose a nationwide electric vehicle mandate and to regulate national fuel economy by regulating carbon emissions.”

SEXUAL PREDATORS: Below are links to the 13 Fox News “Sex Crimes” stories from just this month that involve child victims. Among the perps are seven teachers, one school administrator, one politician, one pastor, and two businessmen. Can we put to rest the ridiculous idea that Catholic priests are the problem?

TEXAS: Gov. Abbott has signed a bill into law requiring all public school classrooms in Texas to display the biblical Ten Commandments. The law, which goes into effect on Sept. 1, requires classrooms to display a poster or framed English translation of the commandments that is at least 16-by-20 inches and is able to be read from anywhere in the classroom. Supporters of the Texas legislation say the Ten Commandments are a key part of the foundation of the United States’ judicial and educational systems and should be displayed.

ALCATRAZ: The former federal prison was known as impossible to escape because of the strong currents and cold waters surround its island. It once housed such infamous criminals as the gangster Al Capone.

BORDER: In April 2024, Homeland Security released a report saying 11 million illegal aliens were estimated to be living in the U.S. as of January 2022. We’ve spent untold billion$ giving them free food, shelter, education, transportation, and health care. Paying them a pittance to go home is far cheaper than continuing the handouts while paying ICE to track them down individually (est @ $17,000/per).

HARVARD PROFS: The Trump administration froze $2.2 billion dollars in federal grants for Harvard which has refused to eliminate DEI and stop supporting antisemitism. More than 80 Harvard faculty members have so far pledged to donate more than $2 million to counter what Government professor Steven Levitsky would be “a death blow to academic freedom.” A 2023 survey found that more than 77% of Harvard’s profs identify as liberal.

HEALTH: Mattress safety is more crucial for babies and young children than for teens or adults, because they spend far more time sleeping.

During those hours, they are more likely to inhale, absorb and/or ingest mattress materials because their breathing rates and skin surfaces relative to body weights are much higher, their skin is more permeable, and they are more likely to put their hands in their mouths. If those materials are harmful, they are far more likely to be damaged, because their blood-brain barriers and detoxification systems are not fully developed.

Recent studies of mattresses found hormone disruptors that interfere with growth, mood, reproduction, and other vital bodily functions. These toxins have been linked to impaired memory, learning disorders, behavioral issues, and lower IQ scores. Some are also linked to childhood cancer and asthma.

LAPTOP FARMS: The National Security Division and the FBI’s Cyber and Counterintelligence Divisions, have an entire division allocated to rooting out and dismantling laptop farms. – Over the last three years, Minh Phuong Ngoc Vong, a U.S. citizen, pulled down $970,000, supposedly by working at a nail salon in Bowie, Maryland. What he was really doing (besides maybe trimming cuticles) was obtaining and then subcontracting government jobs to IT guys in China. Vong himself has no degree and no experience in IT. Literally, the only thing he did was plug a company-provided laptop in at home and install remote access programs on it, so that it looked like it was being operated in the U.S. Basically, he gave the ChiComms access to U.S. government secrets. He pled guilty to several counts of international wire fraud and faces up to 20 years in prison.

MEDICAL TORTURE: Under Tony Fauci, the NIH approved forcing We the Taxpayers to fund allegedly necessary drug tests on animals. They prefer beagles, because they are such sweet-natured animals; apparently, said puppies were mass-bred at puppy mills for the purpose of being tortured and euthanized. They also had their vocal cords cut so experimenters wouldn’t have to listen to them cry out in pain.

One experiment involved pumping pneumonia-causing bacteria into more than 2,000 beagles’ lungs, bleeding them out and forcing them into septic shock. Another had them locking puppies’ heads into cages filled with hungry sand flies.

Under NIH’s new director, Jay Bhattacharya, torturing puppies is a thing of the past. Bhattacharya said PETA actually sent him flowers! BTW, during Trump’s first term in 2019, his administration closed the government’s largest cat lab.

TRUMP: I am relieved to hear he has nixed the idea of a third term. “I’m looking to have four great years, and turn it over to somebody, ideally a great Republican … to carry it forward,” he said. He named Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as the best contenders to replace him in 2028.

DOGE: When Biden was killing off real jobs in the energy sector, Dems told coal miners to “learn to code.” Now that Trump is killing off cushy, overpaid “jobs” in government, Dems are treating it as a national emergency. I’m thinking if the IRS did a deep audit on each of the ones squealing the loudest, a bunch of those mission billions would turn up.

HATING GOD: It is what Nazism, Islam, and the Democratic Party all have in common.

OMB: DOGEism is catching on. Trump’s head of the Office of Management and Budget, Russ Vought, says he has scrutinized the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) budget and determined it is not “reasonably necessary” to continue funding it. “This spigot, long contributing to CFPB’s unaccountability, is now being turned off.” The CFPB is yet another government agency that has been funneling our tax dollars to progressive causes.

PRIORITIES: Sen. Andy Kim (D-N.J.) says he and his fellow Democrats are open to shutting down the government in March if Trump’s recent actions to slim down the federal government are not halted. So … what they’re saying is that it’s okay to shut down the government, but not to slim down the government. Okay. I guess. ::smh::

“The UPenn administrators told the women that if anyone was struggling with accepting Thomas’ participation on the UPenn Women’s team, they had psychological problems and needed to see a counselor. They also say school officials warned them not to speak out against Thomas, lest they be branded as “transphobic” and damage future job prospects.

DAILY PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of life. Make us instruments, Lord, by which others will see You and who You are. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

AMBASSADORS TO HOLLYWOOD: In a surprise post on Truth Social, Trump announced, “It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone, to be Special Ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California.

“They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK—BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE!

“These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will get done what they suggest. It will again be, like The United States of America itself, The Golden Age of Hollywood!”

FAUXTUS: Mr. “I believe in the rule of law” spent his final morning in the Oval Office signing preemptive pardons to Dr. Anthony Fauci, retired Gen. Mark Milley, and people who served on and the law enforcement officers who testified before the U.S. House of Representatives committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol. He did not issue pardons to the innocents who have been rotting in prison for years after being invited in to said Capitol by said law enforcement officers.

MIDDLE EAST: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed on Jan. 19 that Hamas had released three female hostages amid a fragile cease-fire deal that went into effect early on Jan. 19.

S&G: An Australian transgender pedophile (25) has been convicted of repeatedly abusing his own 5-year-old daughter sexually while filming the incidents which he then shared with another pervert. The judge cited transphobia as a mitigating factor in the decision to sentence him to just over 4 years in prison. He will be eligible for parole in 2.5 years.

An Austrian kindergarten has expelled two children after their parents expressed concerns about their classrooms having posters depicting nude and trans-identified humans. One is titled, “Bodies naked and bare, vulva, penis, breasts, butts. You decide for yourself, indeed! Bodies are cool!” Others show an obese male in the shower with a young boy, a trans-identified male with an exposed penis and breasts, and two nude children taking a shower with an adult.

TIKTOK: Last year, members of Congress passed the ban on TikTok, owned by Chinese company ByteDance, over concerns that the platform is collecting sensitive data and information on Americans. The law required that ByteDance, which has long had an internal Chinese Communist Party committee with its own secretary, divest from TikTok within 270 days of the law being passed, which was Jan. 19.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said that he plans to uphold the divest-or-ban law on TikTok. “It’s not the platform that members of Congress are concerned about. It’s the Chinese Communist Party, and their manipulation of the algorithms.” Those algorithms, he said, have been “flooding the minds of American children with terrible messages, glorifying violence, and anti-Semitism, and even suicide and eating disorders,” describing it as a “very dangerous thing.”

The site went dark on Sunday until Trump asked tech companies to allow it to operate. He plans to sign an executive order giving the company 90 more days to divest or else.

Happy Three Kings Day

DAILY PRAYER: Dear Lord, Please grant us the wisdom and courage we need to follow our “stars.” In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.

CANADA: Trudeau’s approval rating is 28%.

CHENEY: And Joe Biden gave her an award for it.

EDUCATION: New Jersey has joined New York and California in eliminating literacy tests for teachers in an effort to meet the state’s diversity objectives. Previously teachers were required to read and write at a 6th grade level.

“The people who voted in favor of this law will, in the same breath, tell you that homeschooling is not a quality education.” – Harris Rigby

FLORIDA: The Sunshine State is suing the Biden administration for refusing to verify immigration records as mandated by law. Their stonewalling has hindered Florida’s efforts to ensure the integrity of its voter rolls and prevent non-citizens from voting.

VFAUXTUS: Mark Leno was the first openly gay man to be elected to the California State Senate. During his time there, he authored a piece of legislation that would have allowed pedophiles to possess up to 99 items depicting child pornography before they could be charged with a felony. Kamala Harris considers Mark Leno a “dear friend.”

GRAMMY NOTES: Forty years ago, I had a devastatingly realistic scenario that I greatly feared.
