Now that is a huge victory!
The IL tea party is trying to get the voter rolls cleaned up too. If we can do this, I think IL can be red again. It is only because Crook county controls the state that every other county.
We did elect a republican governor in 2010. Brady won over Quinn by a few hundred votes the first time around. But of course, the dems went in with the fix, and managed to find a few hundred votes here and there, and lock it up for a dem who had never been elected to anything. AND the IL election commission sends out ballots to our military so they cannot get them back in time to be counted.
If we can stop the cheating. WE WIN!

That thing with the military makes me SO angry … particularly when they get all sanctimonious about depriving anyone of their right to vote. As. If. They. Care.

Seriously. They raise holy hell about depriving “the poor and the elderly” of their right to vote because they do not have photo id -yeah, right, I believe that one – and yet nobody seems to get irate when they don’t facilitate the timely ability of the troops overseas to vote.
I have an acquaintance who goes on and on and on about denying voting rights to those without photo ID and I always tell her to stop talking about it and go help all those people (who she claims to know personally) to get the ID. I told her if she just picked one a day she could probably get the entire legal population of Virginia who does not have a photo ID done by election day 2012. Every time I see her now I ask her how many people she has helped to get ID’s. She doesn’t really like me very much anymore, but I ask her so pleasantly.

Getting a photo ID is so easy that anyone who can’t figure out how to do it is not intelligent enough to be voting. A few years ago I had to get one for my daughter who was too young to have a driver’s license and who doesn’t have a school ID (since she’s never gone to school). It was fast, easy, and cheap. Anyone with an IQ above room temperature could do it.

Yes…but the argument is always that it costs money to get a photo id, even just a state id, and you can’t make people pay money to vote. ‘Cause it costs no money whatsoever to get to the polls! You could just walk, ya know?

I think most states that have passed voter ID laws have included provisions to pay the cost for anyone who truly can’t afford it. My question is, anyone who is so poor that he/she can’t afford a few bucks for a photo ID must be so poor that he/she also can’t afford groceries, rent, etc., and therefore must be receiving public assistance of some sort — food stamps, TANF, rent subsidy, whatever — and don’t you need photo ID to get that stuff? Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.

The last few times I’ve gone to vote (here in Wisconsin we seem to have an election every couple of months or so), I noticed that all of my adult kids are still registered to vote in the ward their father and I live in. They registered back when they still lived with us, and their names have never been removed, I suppose because none of them has bothered to re-register in the wards where they now live. It made me realize just how easy it would be to commit voter fraud. I have a 17-year-old daughter who could easily pass for 18, who could go in there and claim to be either one of her older sisters, and no one would question her. They don’t ask for any kind of ID, let alone a photo ID — they just take your word for it. They would have handed her a ballot, she could have voted, and no one would ever be the wiser.

The last time I voted, I joked with the people at the polling place, “Wait! You mean I have to show you an id to prove who I am to vote?” They just looked at me, smirked and said, “Yes…yes, you do!”
