Billy boy, your father,Irving was a conservative pioneer. That doesn’t give you any cred to dispense advice. If Romney surrendered all his tax returns, the Usurper and his minions could get weeks out of spreading scurrilous lies and making Romney try to defend them.I would release nothing until Jugears releases his college transcripts, any articles he could have written as head of the Harvard Law Review and explain why his SS# belongs to a man in Connecticut. Not to mention why he and his brood sow got their law licenses pulled.I’m sick of being preached to by phony conservatives. How about you?

To a man,the Talking Heads yesterday breathlessly cooed that Obama’s attack ads are having a devaststing effect in the polls, opening leads in the all-important swing states.I call shenanigans.Chrissy’s charts have shown time and again that democrats are grossly oversampled in most polls of ‘likely voters’ or ‘adults.’I seriously doubt there are more than a handful of potential voters who could be swayed at this point. Most people have already decided.

Coda to GP’s hope … that their fake polls will encourage Obama-philes to stay glued to their couches.

In 2008, Obama won a lot of support from two demographics that usually have low turnouts, but who showed up in droves so they could always say they voted for the First Black President. I.e., Blacks and 18-20 somethings. (I forget what age the “Young Voters” cuts off.)

Those two groups, plus another of his demos (women), have all suffered MUCH HIGHER unemployment than the national average.

Some are pissed and eager to express that anger by voting against Obama in November.

Some are turned off, but embarrassed to admit it. They may be polling for Obama to prop up their “I’m not a racist” self-image or because someone in the house is listening to the call. Doesn’t mean they’ll vote for him or at all.

The ones I’m hoping the alphabets are messing with are the clueless and lazy who think Obama is a good president and should get another term. If THAT group buys into the “Obama is way ahead” message, they won’t bother to vote.

Here is a comment from the other place that gets to the heart of things. Makes sense to me.
          michellc says:
          July 16, 2012 at 10:50 am
Many might disagree with me and that’s fine, but I think the goal here is to keep dividing and conquering.
We don’t know what a Romney presidency will look like, but we do know what an Obama presidency looks like, we do know what Obama has continued to do even during an election year. Imagine what he will do with no fear of election.
We can’t keep chasing all the sparkling objects they throw out there.

Personally if I had my way, none of the leaders but Romney and his VP would be speaking. I’d give a few of the new kids on the block running for election a voice. Everyone else would be regular people, the people out there on the ground every day working. Give those people the spotlight. Show you really believe in The People, give the people the voice.
I like Sarah, but this isn’t about Sarah, it’s not about Romney, it’s about this country.

I’m not expecting Romney to be the savior, all I want is to stop the bleeding long enough to get to the hospital for a chance to save my life. With Obama there is no chance.

The city offered 2%,the unions are demanding 28-30% because they’re being asked to work an additional 1 1/2 hours per day.The unions have already overwhelmingly authorized a strike. The state is already over 20 billion in debt, but what do they care?THEY WANT THEIRS!!!Thats the mentality we have to live with here.Thankfully, head union thug Karen Lewis is not pictured. She wouldn’t fit on your monitor.

As a former teacher, I can tell you it is not an easy job, and the time off is not all that much considering that there are mandated courses to take, lots of planning for the new year, etc. etc.
Teaching was the most emotionally draining job I ever had. I spend most of my evenings preparing for the next day.
That said, we need to change the whole idea that teachers need unions. They are not laborers. They are professionals. There should be no tenure, just like in other professions. Get rid of tenure and get rid of teachers unions. Pay good teachers what they are worth, get rid of the bad ones.
I might add, most school boards are elected by local people. The CPS school board is appointed so they are all politically connected. That is why it is a black hole for all the funds we send them. It is time to break up the CPS and make it smaller with neighborhood involvement. It is nothing but a cesspool as it is. But we know that will not happen in a one party system. Moscow has nothing on Chicago.

The bad apples make it harder for the good ones. I’m from a family of teachers and I’ve seen how hard they work and how bitter some of them have gotten dealing with the union-coddled bad apples.

But I’m also married to a man with as much education, who works as hard and also has to do in-service training to keep his license to practice.

Unlike teachers, he gets zero vacation days, zero health insurance and zero retirement benefits. He only gets paid when his customers are HAPPY with the work he did and sometimes not even then. And he has LIFETIME liability for failure to do that work perfectly.

When was the last time any teacher, school, school district or union got sued because of all the kids who graduate illiterate and unable to do simple arithmetic?

Dearest got sued once because some babysitter fell on some guy’s staircase that he had designed. It didn’t have a handrail. The design had a handrail, but the homeowner was too cheap to install it. So, frivolous lawsuit, but we had to hire a lawyer to defend us anyway.

My folks hired a guy for their store once. High school graduate. He had to use a calculator to figure out 10% discounts. He was also just a clerk, which didn’t stop him from listing himself as “store manager” in his wedding announcement or selling stuff out the back door when he got the chance. But those are not the schools’ fault. Or maybe they are. Don’t they teach that “situation ethics” crap in public schools?

Get unions, the federal government and limited government out of education and get back to it being a very small radius local government thing. I would move to a locality that said shove it to all government funding and went local rogue, completely ignoring all regulations and standardizations. In fact, States would be better off just saying no to all federal funding and monies from the DOH and do things the way they damn well please to fit their budget and the will of their people!

        • Get rid of everyone higher than the local school board. Make union membership voluntary, as the Republicans did in Wisconsin, and most teachers won’t join. No one can possibly argue that teachers’ unions have improved education; the public schools did a better job, at far less cost, back before teachers’ unions existed.

During the recent recall elections here in Wisconsin, the Democrat Party in our county set up shop in the same building that houses the local teachers’ union. Usually the two parties rent storefronts downtown (there are plenty of empty ones, thanks to the wretched economy) during election cycles, but I suppose using the teachers’ union building saved the Dems a few bucks. Further proof, if any were needed, that the teachers’ unions are in the back pocket of the Democrat party.

“As far as Michelle was concerned, Oprah’s billions and her elite lifestyle disqualified her as an adviser to Obama, who had no use for wealthy people except as a source of campaign contributions.”

Reminds me of a private school we tried for a short while, when the public school refused to do Thing One to cope with our kids’ serious allergies. Our parental concerns were not of any interest to the teachers or the administration. I tried the parents’ group, but that was all fund-raising. Chocolate sales and Bingo were mandatory and when Dearest lost his job and we missed tuition payments, they put a lien on the house. We had to pay the tuition, with interest, AND their lawyer’s fee.

I’m real curious to see if Oprah is still more interested in the color of the candidate’s skin than in the character of the candidate.

First, more fun! Wacky costumes and nutty nerdniks at the San Diego ComiCon, day 3. You’re welcome, Pete.

Second, Do atheists have a sexual harassment problem? by Kimberly Winston at Religion News Service:

“As skeptics, atheists and humanists prepare to gather for their largest meeting in Las Vegas this weekend, attendance by women is expected to be down significantly. …nontheists — both male and female — have shared stories of unwanted sexual attention at nontheist gatherings, including propositions for sex and unwelcome touching.”

Both these links were posted on Ace of Spades. My comment from there:

A bountifully-endowed woman in a wildly alluring and revealing costume based on testosterone-driven cartoons and videogames is safer at a mass gathering of incredibly horny nerd-boys than a (presumably) plain-looking, business-attired woman would be at a convention of anti-theist and inhumanist stiffs.
