      Fun factoids … Wednesday morning, after the bakery owner declined Plugs’ advance team, some Secret Service guys slipped in, thank him for saying no, and bought sacks of goodies.

      A grill around the corner said yes to Joe, didn’t care about his politics, just wanted the extra business and exposure.

      But if saying no was supposed to hurt the baker, it backfired. The news carried the story Wednesday evening and on Thursday, the bakery had to shut down a little after one pm because they were SOLD OUT. :o)

      Speaking of manure … Dearest and I were talking last night about Hillary’s “racist” remark in the last campaign – “call a spade a spade.”

      I said I thought the expression referred to shovels. Like, if it’s made to shovel manure, just say so. Kinda like how a garbage man is a garbage man, even if you pretty up his job with a goofy title like sanitation engineer. Dearest said he always thought it was a reference to cards, like the Ace of Spades. But he couldn’t say why, so I won.

      Turns out I’m also right. The phrase was introduced to English in the 16th c in the context of calling a spade a shovel. This predates by 4 centuries the use of the word “spade” as an ethnic slur against African Americans, which apparently does derive from playing cards, as in “black as the ace of spades.”

      These days, thanks to the pc thought police, we can no longer use “gay” to mean “merry” or “spade” to mean “shovel.” We can however use “f***ing” as a ever-ready substitute for anything and everything. I never thought before about how much the Left has diminished our wonderful language. It’s so 1984, isn’t it?

      Dunno if anyone caught my kid doing that faint flop during a school concert. It was after I was homebound, so I only heard tell she was carried out while the choir went right on singing. Apparently, nobody much noticed, because it was very crowded and she was standing on the floor at the far end near a door, so it’s not quite as bad as it sounds that nobody paid much mind. LOL

      This is my kid who God thankfully gave a very thick skull and high pain tolerance. Other famous crashes include the Mommy-aging ride down front steps on plastic motorcycle (face plant on stone floor at the bottom … she was just bruised, the motorcycle was a total loss), followed by the Daddy-aging swoosh down ski slope before said Daddy had a chance to tell her how to stop (face plant in snow drift, no worse for wear), followed by Mommy-aging flight over bicycle handlebars into ditch (face plant thankfully missing the metal culvert pipe but I swear to God, from where I was standing, I thought that was where she was headed). We also heard tell of some Sargeant-aging mishaps at boot camp, followed by one mega-OMG-everybody-aging near death incident with a terrorist bomb in one of those war zones.

      But … good news! She’s pregnant so now it’s HER TURN boowahahahaha!

        I’ve got one of those girls, too, Chrissy – right down to the plastic motorcycle ride down the front steps at age 2! She still has the scar from the 10 stitches on her chin for that one, so each time after that when she needed stitches on her face I bypassed the ER and went straight to the plastic surgeon’s office. They were sweet about it.
