I suspect all of you are coming here looking for some post-debate snark.Well, you’ve come to the right place.I’m posting late today because I was up very late and didn’t get much sleep.Frequent naps are one of the perks of being a retiree and I exercise that benefit liberally.
It was a little disappointing to me that Romney didn’t shred the amateur as we hoped he would, but the feeling is he did OK.I will post a number of highlights from last night and the first item on this thread is the entire debate in case you missed it.I know chrissy is televisually challenged so she can watch the carnage for herself. The left had already predetermined that obama won the debate. That’s no surprise.Tingles almost soiled himself, calling it the best debate he’d ever seen. The bar was set so low compared to the last debacle he’d have been considered victorious if he didn’t end the debate with his pants around his ankles.
Romney fumbled a little, which is understandable given the pressure he was under in a hostile environment. The behavior of Candy ‘Creepy’ Crowley was absolutely appalling.Half the questions she chose were virulently anti-Romney and at the most critical time of the debate interjected herself to save Obama’s ass.The night got off to a bad start when the first shot showed her head seemingly floating in space because she wore a black dress against a dark background.Whoever told that broad black was thinning?
Obama was once again shown to be a small man capable of nothing but big rhetoric and small results.Every time Romney told the truth he kept saying ‘that’s not true’ but could offer nothing substantive to back up his boasts and accusations.Such is often the case when you’re dealing with adolescents. My sense is that a great number of good people who were taken in by the hype have come to see him for what he really is.Nothing he did or said last night did anything to move them.Maybe I’m being overly optimistic but I can sense a possible 40 state blowout in the offing.

Forgive me for GAGGING on this one thing, but I just need to RANT (and inquire if I’m the only one who thought this) … At 1:16, he talked about meeting with a gunshot victim’s bedside, “we said a prayer and, remarkably, these two showed up and he looked good as new.” …. ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm am I being overly-cynical or did he imply there that his bedside prayer healed that kid?

I wasn’t sure what he was trying to accomplish with that because I was too disgusted at the obviously planted question that Barack was totally prepared for, which, as it turned out, came from a registered Dem. I was just too busy wretching.

The “Town Hell” debate had an audience of undecided voters. They were undecided how many votes they wanted to cast for Obama.
I followed the debate on Ace’s live-blog, marveling at what happens when the millions of us monkeys are unleashed on interconnected typewriters.
One of the questioner’s was announced onscreen and in what seemed like seconds, some commenter posted a link to that (likely that) person’s FaceBook page.
The moment the Benghazi Spin was spun, links to transcripts and videos of the Rose Garden announcement were posted, and I gather the same was happening all over the blog- and tweet- and etc-o-spheres.
Reports on what the CNN live-time response meters were showing were occasionally announced, and reactions from Luntz (sp?) group were summarized in the live-blog comments. They watched so I didn’t have to, I just got the cream.
“Investigative journalism” by the grassroots, propagated by a thousand trusted blogs, is powerful stuff, and only getting powerfulllier.
As before, the GOP videos were on YouTube practically while the candidates were still mingling with the audience.
‘Twas not thus in days of yore!

I was unimpressed by the “counterpunch” about the coal plant in Massachusetts. My first and only thought was, “Big deal. THAT plant could’ve been truly unsafe and he was right to be proud to close it.” I seem to recall Solyndra’s solar panels didn’t work too well or something like that. Ahem.
LikeLike
When I moved this year, I moved to a location that is near a coal-fired power plant. The plant is now in the process of being closed down. The Watermelons have been wetting themselves and pooping in their pants since the announcement of the demise of this plant.
Reality check: Coal-fired power plants, just like nuclear power plants have a limited time span. They are only good for a certain number of years before they need upgrades.
Considering the clean air rules, the old power stations need to be de-commissioned because of the expense of complying with those rules. At the same time that these are de-commissioned, new power plants are coming on board, and these use better practices for the purpose of clean air. I must add here that the “smoke” is nothing more than steam.
Even if the plant was de-commissioned when Romney was Governor, you can be sure that another more modern plant took its place. In other words, it was a non-issue.

Before I read anything here, I want to offer up the “audio only” report from me and the Dearest … who turns 63 tomorrow and since the power went out AGAIN last night, I decided to forego the pricey sweet we usually spring for and get two solar flashlights, his and hers. We had to sit in the dark to hear the debate, because the radio needed all the flashlight batteries. I’m really pleased with the ones I got …. BoGo, made by a former Marine. Ooh Rah.
We were again not all that bothered by the moderator’s behavior, maybe because we expected a lot worse, maybe because we couldn’t see anything. The interruptions were as annoying as in the first Prez debate. I’d have preferred to hear more question-point-counterpoint, then move on without the extra “what he said is wrong.”
Obama was definitely more energetic and better prepared. But listening to him was very unpleasant, because he did not speak so much as he harangued. Besides sounding angry all the time, Obama rarely answered any of the questions that were asked by the audience or Romney.
He seemed overall to just keep on giving his 2008 stump speech, talking in general tones about how much he cares and how much he’ll do and how Republicans are eeeevil. Dearest said, “Obama talks about Romney’s plan and Romney talks about Romney’s plan.” Yup. Point being … Romney HAS A PLAN.
All the wonky stuff just went in one ear and out the other, but Romney’s repetition of his five points stuck … especially on JOBS and ENERGY. We ARE getting crushed here at Casa Hyphen and it’s OBVIOUS it’s about JOBS and ENERGY.
So, in trying to put myself into my former “relatively uninformed, undecided until the last minute, independent character voter” place … my Big Picture from last night is:
1) Obama promised to bring energy costs and unemployment down before the end of his first term. He didn’t do it and, despite having had 2 years of all-Democrat support, he blames Republicans. Another four years of his plan-free policies and weak, blame-filled leadership are totally unappealing.
2) Romney not only talks a good game about his PLAN for energy and jobs, but he also has a successful track record as a job creator in the private sector, as a bipartisan political leader in Massachusetts, and as a corruption and bankruptcy mess fixer in the Salt Lake City Olympics.
I can’t quite see anyone who was not already drunk on the O’Kool-Aid coming out of that debate thinking Obama is the better choice.

My 2c worth (not adjusted for Obamaflation), just a general assessment of the debates and Romney’s performance. Sorry for using up 10c worth of blog space. IOU 8.
Lots of gripes in comments everywhere about these debates. I mean the valid complaints about why Republicans put up with the slanted format, stacked audience, hostile “undecided voter” questions, and immoderate moderator? Well, this Romney feller, like when he went before the NAACP, just marches into the lion’s den and does his thing, let the wolves howl. In the debates, deep in the hog wallow of obfuscation, he stands there cleanly talking sense. Into the darkest den of the demons of deceit he knowingly, consciously, willingly, even enthusiastically walked, with the angels of truth and righteousness: a successful governor and an experienced businessman’s businessman who knows what he’s talking about and, as he says, has already done these things he says he’ll do! Can any thoughtful people be missing that?
Some gripe that Romney got tangled in that three-way shouting match at times. Heh — I think it was somebody on Ace said, guys, at least, like to see ’em mix it up a little. Obama Tag-Team were trying twice as hard as last time to run over him. He gave as good as or better than he got. Mitt is not dear old laid-back GWB, and certainly is not the honorable but inadequate Mr. McCain. He got excited, but never got ugly. Contrast that with President Not-so-cool!
Finally, I thought Romney got a little too testy, like too concernedly complaining about the time available at one point. He missed many opportunities to make many significant points, as so many have noted. Yet, imagine yourself in that scenario; no matter how much opposition you anticipated, would you be keeping your cool half as well as Romney?* He seemed most flummoxed when faced by the twin spin doctors about Benghazi-as-terrorism. Turns out Mitt is one of us flawed, fallible humans after all. Who knew? 🙂 He sure seems to do well at adjusting on the fly, though, doesn’t he?
(* From reading his posts here, I expect Pistol Pete would be cooler than Romney. 🙄 I don’t think I would be!)
When you’re about to step into a job unlike any other in the world, with so many fires going on, so many unknowns, and so much against you, so much inertia and opposition to all you hope to achieve, seems valuable to have qualities of courage, discipline, poise, savvy intelligence, honesty, forthrightness, and surety from experience.
