Were they this stupid before they went into acting, or does being an actress make you stupid? Nearly all successful Hollywood actresses seem to have two traits in common: one, they are emaciated (you can’t get a decent role in a movie if you’re larger than a size two), and two, they are blithering idiots. Are the two related? Do all those years of adhering to near-starvation diets in order to stay so thin end up starving their brains and killing off brain cells?

Yep, I realized a long time ago that large size does not equate to adequate nutrition! People never believe you when you tell them that someone as fat as (say) Michael Moore could be undernourished; they think if someone is getting enough calories, or too many calories in the case of the morbidly obese, they’re getting other nutrients as well. It’s really frustrating trying to persuade them that that is not the case. It’s even possible that they are suffering from parasites that rob them of nutrients, making them feel hungry all the time, even though they are overweight already.

Send them to Dr. Trautman’s video. He explains it so well. He went around the world studying obese cultures. When understands what obesity really is, people can learn how to overcome it. I hate shows like the biggest loser because they make it look so horrible to lose weight. It can be done safely, with proper nutrition as the emphasis instead of boot camp workouts. All people need to do is walk!

Even in the heyday, SNL was always, maybe, a one-chuckle-at-most show (in the way an old-fashioned analog stopped clock is by chance right twice a day), and that would be in the first half-hour. Last we watched SNL was last century, while Mrs Webworker’s childhood friend was on, and even that was sheerly from friend-duty. Although, she had a few good skits.
This millennium, I would never know what was going on with pop and commercial and broadcast “culture” (as in, bacteria culture) if it weren’t for folks writing about it on blogs like this. Ignorance does have its consequences. At Thanksgiving I mis-pronounced “Verizon,” and my nephews laughed and hooted. I didn’t know how to pronounce “viagra,” either, until I READ someone (Dave Barry?) remarking it was intentionally rhymed with “Niagra.” Ha ha. Crazy, out-of-touch old man! I’m so out of it, I don’t care what any airhead celebs or newssqueakers think, say, or do. Alas, long since including Mrs’s uberliberal old friend.

Maybe we should start a support group for people like us who are hopelessly out of touch with popular culture. When I’m stuck in a slow-moving line at the checkout and there’s nothing to do but read the headlines on tabloids, I can’t identify half the celebrities whose names are mentioned in them.
As for SNL, it was funny back in the seventies, when they had Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi and Bill Murray and Gilda Radner. The problem was, I was still a kid at the time and lived with my parents, and my mother was extremely strict, so I couldn’t watch it if she was around. By the time I grew up and moved out and could watch whatever I wanted on TV, SNL wasn’t funny anymore. I just can’t win.
