On February 11, 2013, the governor of Arkansas signed a bill that added it to the list of states that have opted out of having abortion coverage in their federally-mandated insurance plans.
The other states are Arizona, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, and Virginia.

I don’t get why she has to sue. It’s illegal for anyone to try to force someone else to get an abortion. If her parents try to coerce her, all she has to do is call the police.

The family is putting a lot of pressure on her, including taking her phone and threatening to just drag her to a clinic if she won’t go willingly. The clinics don’t protect the girls. They just want the money. She’s also afraid they’ll slip her an abortion drug in her food.

She needs to leave, then. Surely there’s a crisis pregnancy center, or a church, or even just a friend who would help her find another place to stay. No one of any age is required to stay in a place where she feels threatened with bodily harm. Hell, she could just go to the local clinic or hospital if she hasn’t got anyplace else to go. That’s one of the questions they now ask routinely — do you feel threatened or endangered — can’t recall the exact wording they use, but it’s something to that effect. They’re trying to identify people (especially women and children) who are in situations where they are being abused or where they are likely to be abused. This girl certainly fits that description.

Plus the police can’t be counted on. Planned Parenthood routinely gets cozy with cops so they’ll be left alone.
