THE FRIDAY GRUDGE

Posted by Pistol Pete

When you’re retired Friday’s just another day.

Ever wonder why Barry is never blamed for the chaos he’s created? The media announces the economy added 88,000 jobs last month and the unemployment rate is 7.7%.Period.Nothing about the 668,000 that stopped looking for work and were not counted.

Everything is geared toward 2014.Obama keeps proposing garbage he knows the Republicans will never agree to,then the media whores announce that preezy’s trying, but those Republicans just won’t go along. If they can convince enough nitwits that the GOP won’t allow the dems to get things done, they are trying to get control of the House back,as I said yesterday. Then it’s over.

I have an awful lot of articles to pick through today, trying to pick out the best,as I always do.Thanks for stopping by.

Part of the plan to incite violence against Conservative Americans. It’s all the REPUBLICANS fault you can’t get cancer treatment or a job or whatever. And they’re all CHRISTIANS. It’s what they did to the Jews in Germany.

This is the norm in socialist countries.
Since they do not have enough doctors (who would want to be a doctor when you get paid the same as the phone repair guy), people just go to the local drug store for whatever ails them.
Maybe we can bring back the medicine man. The “chemo” they used actually worked.
      Call it chemosabi? Cures everything!

“Many of the problems are newly created (or made worse), and Barack Obama owns them. Candidate Obama stepped up and essentially said, “I want the job, and everything that comes with it” by running for president. After three years in office, the problems now belong to him and his presidency. He caused them, made them worse, or didn’t solve them. Either way, they are his now.”

I knew a guy who worked at a slaughter house, butchering cows. He related this true story. While waiting to be served at the grocery store meat counter, he chatted with a stranger who asked what he did.

He told her and she gasped, “You kill animals for a living. How horrible! How can you do that?!” He gestured to the counter where they were both waiting to buy beef and asked her how she thought the meat got into those packages.

I saw a letter to the editor once that criticized hunters for killing defenseless animals. It actually said, “If you want to eat meat, you should get it at the grocery store.” That letter could have been satirical, but more likely, the writer was a super serious liberal.

      Like

      • OMG, that’s funny.

As far as hunting is concerned, although I don’t hunt myself (and that makes me part of the minority in Wisconsin), and seldom eat venison (we get it only if someone we know has too much and wants to give some away), the fact remains that there are way too many deer in this state, and very few natural predators (i.e., wolves) remain to thin the herd. So if hunters didn’t kill them, there would be just that many more deer who would be hit by cars and trucks on the highways. Sorry, but that’s the reality.

Years ago my daughter bought some beef from a farmer, and when she went to open one of the packages, she found “Pierre” written on the outside of it. None of us felt that was something we really needed to know.

Nowadays I buy all my beef, pork, and chickens directly from the farmers who raise the animals, but luckily for me, none of them write the names of the animals on the packages!

A friend of mine has a family cattle farm in ND. Once, I ‘adopted’ a calf of theirs, because the photos of it were really cute. For a year or two, I received pictures of him growing and grazing. Then one day, I asked my friend how my cow was, and he said, ‘delicious’. No more adopting cows.

The biggest tree hugger I ever knew (Cornell professor of ecology, mover and shaker behind deposit bottles and cans) was also a hunter. He was adamant about the compassionate necessity for herd management.

Bambi lovers should really have to sit through some reality video of a hunter killing a deer cleanly with a single shot to the heart, a wolf pack tearing it apart while it’s still alive and a deer starving to death in the winter.

The deer in our neighborhood ravage our gardens, kill ornamental trees and drop their fawns and their disease-laden tics on our lawns. One came right up on my front porch and stripped my hollyhocks to the stems.

Given the choice between intelligent hunters or wolves who make no distinction between deer, children and pets, I’ll take hunters, thank you very much.

          • The deer in our neighborhood are death to gardens and landscaping. I gave up trying to grow vegetables in my garden — it’s hopeless unless you put up a six-foot chain link fence with razor wire at the top to keep the wildlife out. We live inside the city limits, where it’s illegal to discharge a firearm, and the deer seem to know that they’re safe here, because they’re not afraid of us at all. My husband does occasionally bean one with a snowball, however.

I never even tried veggies. After they ate all my tulips and hollyhocks, I realized I just had to landscape with stuff they hated, end of discussion. Daffodils do well. And prickly, toxic yew bushes.

I also grow tons of flowers and herbs on the deck, which is not accessible to the deer. I plant lots of petunias and marigolds, which no critter seems to like. Pinks and periwinkle also do well.

Having deadheaded about a million petunias and marigolds in my growing years I can certainly understand why nobody eats them. They both smell terrible. I think marigolds have an ingredient that is used in insecticides and lice shampoo.

                  Like

                • Some people plant marigolds all around the perimeter of their vegetable patch, because (the theory goes) they keep the bugs away. Marigolds do have rather a skunk-like smell. But they are easy to grow, hard to kill, thrive on neglect, bloom profusely all summer long (often until mid-October, if we don’t get a hard frost), and are cheerful and colorful, so I love them and plant dozens of them every year. Petunias also bloom like crazy all summer long, come in a wonderful variety of colors, and the butterflies love them, so they will always have a place in my garden. Morning glories are another big favorite of mine, and they attract butterflies and hummingbirds. I’m looking forward to planting lots of them this spring.

                  Like

                • Some of the newer varieties of petunias really smell good, though. Don’t ask me which ones – I just find the pretty colors I want and then smell. If it smells good, I buy it. Couldn’t tell you the names of the varieties, though.

I love the smell of marigolds. It was the first flower smell I ever remember since my aunt planted them along her city walk (where nothing else would grow). I always put them all around my veggie garden. I have raised beds, so the critters do not do much damage. Except last year, they discovered my potatoes and ate every darn one!

Tarder sauce (and her brother Pokey) clearly have some developmental issues (feline dwarfism), but they are well-cared-for, and don’t seem to mind their limitations. You can read more about the two of them at their official website: http://www.grumpycats.com/about-grumpy-cat/#.UWAhMZG9KSM

“Tardar Sauce visites the vet regularly and she has a clean bill of health. Her petite size and famous face is likely due to feline dwarfism and her rear end wobbles a bit when she walks due to this; otherwise she is a perfect little kitty! She is not a munchkin cat and was not bred purposefully from other munchkin cats. (We don’t breed kitty’s and her parents are normal sized domestic short hair cats.)

“Also, a quick note on Grumpy Cat’s wellbeing. We take great care of Tardar Sauce; 99% of the time she is a normal kitty. She plays, hides, and acts as cats act. (She LOVES to hide behind the curtains!) She isn’t in front of a camera all of the time like many people perceive. We only take photos sets once every week or so and on the few occasions where we have met with the media or licensed partners we ensure the sessions are short and that she isn’t handled by many people. Tardar Sauce is a member of the family before anything else!”

Thanks, Violet! I feel a lot better. Had a kinda quesy feeling about enjoying Grumpy Cat pics and memes thinking she was being exploited. Clearly, she is, as Bob said, a cat who has the best possible home, given genetic flaws that would have made her hawk bait before she was weaned.
