I really like Joseph Pearce, and I wrote my first letter to First Things Magazine to defend him against Prof. Robert Miola who slammed him pretty good in a nasty FT book review. Miola is a regular at FT, and I thought his sneering take-down of Pearce was a little much for a thoughtful journal of religion in public life. He’s kind of an ass. I thought my letter much more respectful than Miola’s, but they rejected it anyway. It was strange, I thought, that they didn’t publish a single letter in support of Pearce – mine or anyone else’s. Maybe he’s not liked by the editors.

I’m still working my way through this interview. In the second half, he talks about how he came to Catholicism because of POLITICS. I’ve never heard that one before! LOL

Well, in the UK, religion IS politics. Nobody is more than a dozen generations from faith-driven hangings, confiscated property, forced conversions and hiding priests in holes. There’s still a lot of hatred in politics that’s strictly religious.
