Today the Supreme Court is hearing oral arguments in a case known as Hobby Lobby vs. Sebelius to determine whether a business has the same rights to freedom of religion as individuals do. The left frames it as religious rights vs. womens’ rights. What I can’t figure out is how this involves “womens’ rights” in any way.

The answer to all this is simple. Disassociate health insurance from employment. Those who are self-employed and paying their own premiums are at a substantial tax disadvantage already. Those who are employed are at the mercy of whatever health insurance plan their employer decides is good for them. Let us all make our own choices, and be taxed the same. Then we can all choose if we want free birth control – or not.

I don’t like this anti-bossy movement. ‘Bossy’ can be a legitimate term for pushy, overbearing jerks who consistently use disrespectful behavior to get their way, and I don’t think it’s gender-specific. We are expected to accept and embrace too much of other people’s BS these days, and I’m not enthusiastic about adding bossiness to the list of crap I’m supposed to tolerate.

I googled but I’m still clueless what Kawaii Buzz is. In 1996, we had a Japanese Rotary exchange student living with us when somebody brought a spring peeper into the house. We set up a terrarium for him and Mama Buzz, our frog lover, was in love. She asked Miki for the Japanese word for cute. Kawaii. So that was his name. Poor thing almost starved to death in the winter. He wouldn’t eat anything that wasn’t alive and we didn’t know then you could buy crickets at the pet store. I remember chasing around the house with my big fish net to catch the occasional live fly that popped up on warm days. We let him go in the spring.
