In his dissent on the SCOTUS gay marriage decision, Justice Clarence Thomas wrote:
Human dignity has long been understood in this country to be innate. When the Framers proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence that “all men are created equal” and “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,” they referred to a vision of mankind in which all humans are created in the image of God and therefore of inherent worth. That vision is the foundation upon which this Nation was built.
The corollary of that principle is that human dignity cannot be taken away by the government. Slaves did not lose their dignity (any more than they lost their humanity) because the government allowed them to be enslaved. Those held in internment camps did not lose their dignity because the government confined them. And those denied governmental benefits certainly do not lose their dignity because the government denies them those benefits. The government cannot bestow dignity, and it cannot take it away.
George Takei twisted this into an obscenity, then called Justice Thomas a “clown in black-face” for saying what he had not said:
And for him to say, slaves have dignity. I mean, doesn’t he know that slaves were in chains? That they were whipped on the back. If he saw the movie 12 Years a Slave, you know, they were raped. And he says they had dignity as slaves or – My parents lost everything that they worked for, in the middle of their lives, in their 30s. His business, my father’s business, our home, our freedom and we’re supposed to call that dignified? Marched out of our homes at gun point. I mean, this man does not belong on the Supreme Court. He is an embarrassment. He is a disgrace to America.

Not just a good SCJ, but also a great man. Justice Thomas puts those idiots to shame, and he does it with his dignity intact.

As someone at PJMedia pointed out, Clarence Thomas votes for the party that freed his people, while George Takei votes for the party that put him and his family in internment camps.

I’m rethinking slavery based on the teachings of my Bible and Christ’s lessons:
“Slavery is a universal principle of creation. All creatures are confined to some being or principle. There is no escape from enslavement, no existence in which absolute autonomy and unlimited independence are obtained. All creatures are ultimately enslaved; either to sin, Satan and fleshly desires or to the true God and King, Jesus Christ (John 8:31-36; Romans 6:15-19). True freedom is not found in independence from our Creator, but rather in subjection to His sovereignty. There is no lasting liberty apart from captivity to Christ.It is in this “slavery” that our greatest joy is found.

The Left has logged a lotta miles over two centuries about how horribly oppressed the American black has been by the evil White Man, ignoring that situations at that time were much worse on the Dark Continent from whence they came. And that virtually 100% of slaves were enslaved by other blacks (and still are today).
Gimme a break with this “slaves in chains” horseshit, my darling George, it doesn’t fly with me anymore. It mostly didn’t happen in 1861, and grievances forged twelve generations ago surely have a Statute of Limitations at some point, right?
Their condemnation is my approbation.

Gotta give you credit, Kelli. You are an independent thinker and come up with some amazing points regularly. And you got guts! This is an excellent point and one of the “big lies” the left has successfully indoctrinated us with over the past 40 years or so. Not just to smear all white folks as evil slaveholders (even if they had nothing to do with it), but also to distort the truth about all servitude of any kind, whether it’s employment, debt, marriage, children, etc.
Truth is, slavery has been accepted throughout history until about the last couple hundred years. I have indentured (white) slaves in my family tree. The Bible is not anti-slavery and neither were the Christian churches until recently. That’s because it served a critical purpose and it was neither inherently immoral nor cruel nor permanent. Slaveholders were bound by the same morals everyone is. That’s why it’s so stupid that all our Hollywood movies paint it as such a vicious practice. It probably wasn’t most of the time.
Do I want to go back to it? Hell no. But I don’t like, either, how we’re all modern debt slaves now. The bank and the government own you just as assuredly as a slave boss did in past centuries. Like Kelli points out, we may never be free people. If we’re lucky, we may get to choose who we serve.

One point that the Left totally ignores is that it was the years-long persistence of a Christian white man that led to the UK banning slavery, the first nation in history ever to do so. The movie, Amazing Grace, should be a must see for anyone who presumes to understand the slavery issue.
