1st flight, oldest brother is home on leave, and borrowed a small plane from Dad’s friend. Short time, but cool, very cool. then Dad took us all up. Even better than my brother, hanging with Dad. Mom’s first flight, age 60+, groused, muttered, was scared of flying but it was a trip to Denver to family. To comfort her, I told little, innocent stories of yes, we could get spattered across half of Kansas, or the jet could catch fire…Gee, Mom! Look at all that smoke on the wing! She’s staring and the fear is losing to anger. then an attendant came by and explained it was only dust, and it happens every flight. That no, flying is much safer than the train and far safer than driving. When she found out it was Mom’s first, ever, the crew gave Mom a pin stating that. Then they found out it was almost her birthday and brought a cake with Sweet 16 on it, sang her happy birthday (and everyone on the jet joined in π Mom’s 2nd flight, she straps in grousing and worried, then gave me a cruel, evil look and told me to shut up because I wasn’t too old to spank! I took a long, uneventful nap and vowed to never travel with someone so lacking in humor again.

ROFLLLL Still, anger is a good tonic for fear, so you weren’t that far off. LOL And BRAVO to those wonderful flight attendants!
