Bits & Bytes

AMERICAN COMMUNITY SURVEY: The ACS is sent to about 3.5 million homes every year. It contains 28 pages filled with questions about personal matters the government has no business asking about. Yet the potential fines for the federal offenses of refusing to participate can be as high as $100 for every question not answered and $500 per intentionally false response.

In short, noncompliance could result in total fines ranging from $10,000 and $50,000. Anyone who gets a survey and does not return it in a timely way will get hounded by Census Bureau employees, first with phone calls, then with home visits.

The ACS is unconstitutional, as are many of the questions included on the Constitution requires only that citizens be counted every ten years. The Census Bureau boasts a 97% success rate with the ACS, yet has never pursued fines against the 3%, probably because they know the stupid thing is unconstitutional.

If they pursued a court case, they’d lose and the whole program would be canceled which, among other things, would mean a lot of them would lose their jobs. The catch is … if you happen to be the one person they choose to prosecute, you’ll be in court fighting them for years.

BORDER: FAUXTUS’ DOJ is actually suing Gov. Greg Abbot for trying to do the job the Constitution delegates to the federal government. That is, protect our borders. Texas put a floating barrier in the Rio Grande to discourage illegal immigrants from attempting to cross into the United States.

The lawsuit demands it be removed, because the Rivers and Harbors Appropriation Act of 1899 bars the “creation of any obstruction not affirmatively authorized by Congress, to the navigable capacity of any of the waters of the United States.” Un-freaking-believable.

Gov. Abbot responded, “Texas will see you in court, Mr. President.

SAN FRAN: CNN visited a Walgreen’s to do a segment on shoplifting. During the 30 minutes they were there, they saw three shoplifters walk in, take stuff, and walk out unmolested. In a constitutional republic, voters get the government they deserve, which should tell us all we need to know about Nancy Pelosi’s district.

In other news, Bronny James, son of Lebron James suffered a cardiac arrest during a basketball workout. He is 18 years old and otherwise in excellent health.

GRAMMY NOTES: During my stress test, they elevated the treadmill to the top and I puffed, “This is the angle of our street where I walk the dog, but we never move this fast, because she has to stop at every mailbox and check her p-mail.” The cardiologist laughed and said, “We call it ‘Butt and Facebook.’

  1. Thoughts of Dog: heh. Daisy the overly-affectionate Malinois had her check-up today. The way she was sniffing out every corner of the exam room, you’d think she was reading a week’s worth of Bits & Bites!

Starting last weekend, I’ve been letting Daisy “free run,” rather than us being tethered together on our morning walks. Works out better for me than stopping every few feet for her to sniff trees and dig holes and jump at grasshoppers. She’s been a very good dog. Still a lot of training-up to be done, but she’s getting better all the time. Building trust and working on obedience. Some religious metaphor there, eh?
