GRAMMY NOTES: In 1977 (i.e., before word processors), I typed a 300+ page doctoral thesis for a Ph.D. candidate. Since the theses were microfilmed, they were super strict about the margins and rejected the entire thing because of a few pages where the bottom margin was a smitch too small.

I retyped those pages, but advanced each line by hand so the required double spacing was a smitch too small. My client turned the ms in again, a couple of days later, just meeting the deadline. The librarian checked the problematic margins, accepted the submission, and told my client, “I do NOT want to know how you did this!“
