I’m going to give posting a miss today. My heart isn’t in it. We just got photos of the devastation our loved ones (2 retired sisters living in the home their dad built) experienced.
They were safe, having gone out of state for the eclipse, and have a place to stay (another sister who wasn’t flooded). But they (and everyone in their neighborhood) lost EVERYTHING.
I’m signed up to make a quilt and make new photo albums from whatever images were digitized and stored off-site. I’m really glad to finally have something I can DO to help somebody down there. But, dear Lord, these photos make me want to weep.
The budget for Obamacare “navigators” is being cut by 90%.
And good riddance! Last year, they received over $62.5 million in federal grants while enrolling only 81,426 individuals. One program was paid $200,000 and signed up only one person. I haven’t done the math, but I’m thinking maybe we could have insured those people for less.

When I saw the clip, I thought it was a bit much when the guy thanked them for “saving my life.” But it gets worse. A sharp-eyed tweeter noticed that the “heroic” talking head apparently took the time to CHANGE HIS CLOTHES in the middle of the so-called rescue. When he first runs behind the wheelchair sign, you can see he’s wearing the red hoodie with shorts and sandals. But later, he’s wearing black pants.
PRAYERS!Prayer is so important. Hurricane Irma is in the ocean now. Please pray it dies out or redirects and doesn’t hit Texas, Louisiana, or Haiti!!
I need a tissue! Maybe I’m just being whelmed by the fact that my own flesh and blood was involved in this rescue. Or maybe it really is a story you’ll be glad you took the time to read in full. We’ve been in touch with our relatives in the area. Their opinion is: “This is WAY worse than Katrina!” Eighteen counties have been declared disasters. It’s hard to fathom.
We claim two households in the area. One family home is fine and the inhabitants are helping with relief efforts. The other family was out of state to view the eclipse, so they’re safe, but their house is flooded, so they are staying where they are for now.
