I need a tissue! Six-year-old Avery Iverstine set up a lemonade stand on her front porch on Tuesday and earned more than $300 to help those affected by Harvey. A generous donor has agreed to match this amount, so that Avery can donate twice as much.

As the Trumps headed to Texas, our FAKE NEWS media focused on the Big Issues, like Melania’s shoes.

Is Keith Olbermann certifiable?

This man reminds me of a doctor I saw once. I’ll spare you the details, but he had me in tears by the time he was done with me. Later, I saw in the paper that he had lost his medical license for renewing patient prescription by phone FROM INSIDE A MENTAL INSTITUTION! I knew that guy did not have both his oars in the water. And neither does Keith.

Presidential Pardons

Last month, Joe Arpaio was convicted by a federal judge of CRIMINAL CONTEMPT.

He had been issued a court order to stop traffic patrols that the court alleged were designed to target illegal immigrants. Arpaio said the traffic patrols were not aimed at Hispanics and that he had done nothing wrong in continuing them. The only person being targeted was Sheriff Arpaio and President Trump was RIGHT to pardon him.

This video is worth your undivided attention. In it, President Trump lists some of the murderers and traitors who were pardoned by two of his Democrat predecessors.

MASCOT CLEVERNESS

Lil Buzz made a ramp out of the xylophone, then dropped plastic beads on it to hear them play the notes.

2017_08 18 Bead Xylophone

In other news, we are SO PROUD of Bunny, who made the scary jump from Special Ed Pre-K to Mainstream Kindergarten!  She’s on the Autism Spectrum (though much less than Buzz), but has been doing SO WELL with her therapies and performance in school that Mama Buzz and all her peeps agreed she was ready!

She’s in the same classroom where she had summer classes, so is very comfortable there.  And she is still going to take the Special Ed bus with Buzz that she’s used to, have some extra help with a few things in the classroom, and go to Speech, Occupational, and ABA therapies after school.

But she totally ACED her Kindergarten academic evaluation.  She can count to 100; they only asked for 20!  LOL  And she knows her alphabet and can spell all three of her names, plus “Mom”, “Dad”, and her sibs’ first names.  So, between being accustomed to the whole school routine and being ahead on the academics, she’ll be able to focus on the social stuff that is her big autism-y challenge.

Gosh, it’s dusty in my office right now.

tumeric and black pepper

A couple years ago, I read a brief blog by someone who sounded like she knew what she was about. It just said that the goodies in turmeric were much more bio-available if you warmed it in oil with black pepper before cooking. This article is far more informative, but ends up at the same place. 🙂

I immediately stopped stuffing turmeric into gel caps and started cooking with it routinely. I’ve come to rely on this blend as my starting point for many dishes, particularly ones with rice and vegetables. I also like to sauté chopped onions in it to add to crock pot soups and stews; this really adds a BLAST of flavor to dishes that can otherwise turn into “crock pot blah.”

On low heat (3 on my electric stove), melt a glob of refined coconut oil. Add 1/4 tsp each of turmeric and black pepper, plus 1/2 tsp salt. Stir until warm and well blended. (I often add a pinch of ginger and cinnamon as well, maybe Italian seasoning or, if I’m doing fish or poultry, some poultry seasoning.) Proceed with recipe.

While the oil and spices are warming, I chop up onions and toss them in, cuz I like them well done. Then I chop and add fermented garlic and whatever’s in the hydrator that appeals to me at the moment. (I’m a seat of the pants kinda cook! LOL) Stir in some pre-cooked meat or fish, if I’m in the mood, then pile on enough pre-cooked rice to make up two servings. Stir, cover, and let it fester on low heat while I set the table, pour the kombucha, and rustle up my spousal unit.

I think doing it this way retains a lot of the goodness in the veg, since it doesn’t cook very long. And it turns rice such a pretty color. Plus, lookie here, what it says in the article … black pepper helps cure vitiligo! I haven’t noticed particularly that my pinto hubby has lost any of his spots, but I haven’t been paying attention either. I sure will now! 🙂

Trump vs. Obama

Yo, Lefties who are criticizing Trump for going to Camp David this week-end!

Back in 2016, when Louisiana was experiencing record flooding, Obama went golfing on Martha’s Vineyard while Trump visited flood victims.

CNN responded to Obama’s critics by reminding us of Nancy Reagan’s answer to critics of her husband’s regular trips to the family’s ranch.

“Presidents don’t get vacations — they just get a change of scenery.”

Congratulations to new mom Aleks Patete and her healthy new son, DJ. When Aleks went in for prenatal care, the doctor discovered she had ovarian cancer. Aleks refused to abort or undergo chemo until later in the pregnancy when her unborn son was developed enough to cope with it. At the time of the birth, Aleks was in remission.
