After reading/blogging about how Obama Democrats are denying death benefits to Gold Star families while forking over half a billion dollars to Big Bird … I really, really needed to see this! For the past 11 years, Glenn Helseth and his wife have owned and operated the Carrot Tree Kitchens Restaurant inside the historic Cole Digges House in Yorktown, Va.
Although the building is owned and operated by the National Park Service, the restaurant is a money-maker for the government. Glenn said, “I send them a check every month.”
He also pointed out that even though the building is technically closed, he’s still required to maintain insurance and utilities, make his rent payment AND pay for the building’s security system – the building the NPS kicked them out of.
At least 20 of Helseth’s longtime employees are facing unemployment. They can’t make rent and some are faced with choosing between buying food or buying medicine.
Glenn has decided enough is enough. He has reopened the Carrot Tree Kitchens Restaurant and is serving Brunswick stew, ham biscuits and carrot cake.
He said. “If that gets me put in jail, I’m going to jail. I don’t wish to take a stand against my government. I’ve always been very proud of my country. [But] I don’t agree with what’s happening. I can no longer abide by what’s happening.”
One legislator said, “I’ve never seen such small-minded, miserable behavior … and such a disregard of our responsibilities to the people. The American people could get better government out of monkey island in the local zoo than we’re getting … today.”
Sadly, it was a Democrat criticizing Republicans for holding their ground. Ann Coulter once said, “It’s easy to know what Democrats are doing. Just listen to what they accuse of us doing.”
That is so true! A majority of Americans do not want Obamacare.
A majority of us did not want it when it was shoved through a Democrat super-majority Congress and signed by a Democrat president. (Check the polls.)
We’ve fought it in the courts and screamed our heads off trying to get it re-evaluated. At this point, Republican legislators are doing the only thing available to them by refusing to fund it.
It’s the Democrats who are making this an all-or-shutdown thing.

The Spite House decided a government shut-down meant that extra cops and resources needed to be allocated to Barry-cade the open-air monuments in DC lest expected World War II and Vietnam War Honor Flight veterans get in and … you know … look at them, have pics taken, lay a wreath or two.
But just so we are all Very Clear that Øbama Democrats believe they can shove their thumbs in our eyes whenever and wherever they choose, they’ve given the go-ahead to a planned protest called “Camino Americano: March for Immigration Reform” on the otherwise Barry-caded National Mall.
The event is hosted by several immigration activist groups, plus the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the AFL-CIO, all big contributors to Democrat war chests. About 30 members of Congress are expected to attend the rally, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J.
This is impossible to justify in terms of any “government shutdown.” However, if you assume that Obama and the Democrats regard illegal aliens as their constituents and WWII vets as NOT their constituents, then it makes a kind of sick sense. Emphasis on SICK.

Oct 5, 2013: In Washington, D.C., a citizen tried to take his usual run along an open-air path and was greeted with barriers, a turned off water fountain and a pushy cop. “I asked him, ‘Why do you have to put your hands on me and push me out when I’m leaving anyways?’ He replied, ‘It’s quicker this way.'”
Oct. 5, 2013: At the open-air Vietnam Memorial, our “closed due to lack of money” government assigned cops AND A DOG to guard the barricaded entrance to a space that is ordinarily unmanned 24/7.
We need a new Occupy movement – patriots occupying their national parks and war memorials until President Hissy Fit relents.
Oct 5, 2013: In California today, it became legal for aliens residing in the U.S. illegally to practice law. (I am not making this up.) Maybe when Oblamer arrests us, some of those illegal legal lawyers can represent us pro bono seeing as they no doubt qualify for food stamps and free health care.

I have not been able to find where the Senate has taken any vote on this. But it’s the week-end. Democrats apparently don’t work week-ends … or holidays. Not even when there’s an international crisis. Remember the Fourth of July when Egypt was burning and SecState Kerry was spotted on his yacht off Nantucket?
So … is it true that priests could face arrest for saying Mass on base while furloughed? There’s been a lot of mis-information thrown around about this, so here’s the best info I’ve found:
31 USC 1342 says “An officer or employee of the United States Government or of the District of Columbia government may not accept voluntary services for either government or employ personal services exceeding that authorized by law except for emergencies involving the safety of human life or the protection of property.”
Penalties for violating 31 USC 1342 are spelled out in 31 USC 1350: “An officer or employee of the United States Government or of the District of Columbia government knowingly and willfully violating section 1341(a) or 1342 of this title shall be fined not more than $5,000, imprisoned for not more than 2 years, or both.”
So yes, priests can be arrested if they defy the furlough and say Mass on base.

Every time I think the Obama Democrats have hit bottom, they find some way to dig their Hell Pit a little deeper.
The U.S. military is roughly 25% Catholic, but Catholic priests make up only about 8% of the active duty Chaplain Corps.
The 275,000 Catholic men and women in uniform (and their spouses and children) are served by only 234 active duty priests.
The military deals with this priest shortage by hiring local civilian priests to service bases where an active duty Catholic Chaplain is not present.
These priests are among those government personnel the Obama Democrats refuse to pay during the government shutdown.
But it goes further. Obama Democrats are not just refusing to pay civilian priests; they are also threatening to ARREST them if they even try to VOLUNTEER.
Kansas Rep. Mike Pompeo, a graduate of West Point and an Army veteran, issued a statement today saying,
“The President’s strategy during the slowdown, just as during the sequestration, is to create as much pain as possible. However, this action crosses a constitutional line of obstructing every U.S. service member’s ability to practice his or her religion.
I just emailed the Archbishop of the AMS and said I hoped he planned to encourage his priests to defy Obama.
The WWII vets said NO and won. If priests just show up at every base as usual, they’ll win that as well.

ObamaCare never has and never will be about helping the poor. If they’d ever given a toot about actual people, they’d have reformed health care in the practical ways the GOP proposed, ways that WORK.
- These two changes alone would’ve opened up a huge market of health insurance plans of all shapes, sizes and premium levels.
- These two changes would’ve freed people trapped in jobs they hate because they don’t dare lose their employer-based insurance plan.
- These two changes would’ve created low-cost catastrophic coverage options that uninsured people in low-paying service industry jobs where insurance isn’t included could afford.
Instead, they shoved ZeroCare down our throats, something that has a proven track record in many countries, including here (Medicare, Medicaid) of providing least care for most money. Why? Because it provides the most POWER and CONTROL and that’s what it was and is about.
The PTBs in DC rake in the bucks, then use them to pay off cronies and punish enemies. Case in point: Abortion.
ObamaCare mandates everybody pay directly into a fund that does nothing except buy abortions. IOW, they extort money from Pro-Lifers (mostly Republicans) and give it to abortionists who turn around and donate it to Pro-Abortion Democrat campaign coffers to ensure their right to kill goes unimpeded.
Do you think if Dems cared about actual people, Harry Reid could have EVER said what he did about kids with cancer? They don’t care who gets hurt during this government shut down, just so long as they hang on to their POWER.
