Being a Leftist means …

… never having to trouble your little grey cells with facts.

1970 Life mag

Also, Leftists tried to suppress study results because they show that fracking is “a safe source of jobs, prosperity and low-cost energy.” They find this result “disappointing.” That says a lot about the Left, no?

“Geologists at the University of Cincinnati just wrapped up a three-year investigation of hydraulic fracturing and its impact on local water supplies.

“The result? There’s no evidence—zero, zilch, nada—that fracking contaminates drinking water. Researchers hoped to keep these findings secret.

“Why would a public research university boasting a top-100 geology program deliberately hide its work? Because, as lead researcher Amy Townsend-Small explained, ‘our funders, the groups that had given us funding in the past, were a little disappointed in our results. They feel that fracking is scary and so they were hoping our data could point to a reason to ban it’.”

Surprisingly, this story made it into Newsweek.

The Sin of Eco-Conspicuous Consumption

Prius preen green

“The biofuels debacle is global warm-mongering in a nutshell: The first victims of poseur environmentalism will always be developing countries. In order for you to put biofuel in your Prius and feel good about yourself for no reason, real actual people in faraway places have to starve to death.” -Mark Steyn

I believe …

that climate change is natural, not man-made.

that draconian measures to reduce man-made greenhouse gasses will badly damage local and global economies while having no impact whatsoever on pollution, climate, weather, or sea levels.

that efforts to suppress fossil fuel use in the name of saving the planet are at best misguided and at worse deeply anti-human.

that no society has ever grown out of poverty without an abundant, affordable, reliable source of energy.

that at this time, fossil fuels are the best energy source for Third World nations struggling to eliminate poverty.

that demanding Third World countries stop using fossil fuels means denying them the right to ever have clean, reliable water and labor-saving devices that allow local farmers to produce food in abundance.

that refusing to allow the 1.2 billion any chance at having electricity for refrigeration and other food preservation processes condemns them to hunger and disease, not due to a lack of food, but to a lack of a consistent, year-round supply of safe, edible food.

that demanding impoverished peoples continue to heat and cook with smoky open fires does nothing to help the environment, while causing many of them to go blind.

Climate Change Made Them Do It!

2015_11 29 Climate protesters trash Paris victim meml

President Obama and Bernie Sanders are SURE that violence is due to climate change, NOT to one’s ideology … unless it’s violence they can blame on right-wing ideologies, in which case it totally is due to ideology. Or possibly a YouTube video.

So it’s OBVIOUS it was climate change that inspired these protesters to commit totally senseless vandalism, right?  Except, the climate hasn’t changed in about 18 years.  Plus, France’s President Hollande said, “these disruptive elements have nothing to do with defenders of the environment”, even though they said they were protesting to defend the environment.

So it’s OBVIOUS it’s just like Muslim terrorists and how their violence has nothing to do with Islam, even though they yell “Allahu Akbar” while they’re shooting Christians in the face.

Ideology has NOTHING to do with violence, right?!

Except that the Colorado Springs shooter was probably, maybe, possibly motivated by the CMP videos. And even if he wasn’t, he could have been and that PROVES anti-choicers are ALL VIOLENT WHACK JOBS!  Every last one of them!

NBER: Kill the Electric Car Subsidy; Electrics are Worse Than Gas Cars for the Environment

Elon1j
Gruntington Post News (Not Parody This Time) – The National Bureau of Economic Research has released a study that makes it clear for the first time, officially, that the federal $7500 subsidy paid for each electric car sold is an environmental disaster. The report, released yesterday, is somewhat obscure in its analysis and language, but it is significant in that it represents an official admission that electric cars are almost always worse for the environment than gasoline-powered cars. It also calls for the current federal subsidy to be discontinued. These are both things that have motivated electric car critics for years.

model-s-review-620aOne of the conclusions of the study that is partially obscured by the complex ranking system employed, but that deserves emphasis, is that electric cars enjoy “environmental sainthood” only when the power plants generating the electricity are, themselves, “green.” While this is the case in places like Quebec, Canada, where much of the power is generated from clean hydroelectric sources, such is not the case in virtually the entire U.S., where almost all power is generated from coal or oil or natural gas. While the study gives electric cars a dubious bonus for “exporting” these emissions outside of urban areas, it admits that even this is no net gain for the planetary environment. In fact, the overall emissions are worse. So, next time you see a Prius or a Tesla on the road, feel free to call out “Planet Raper!!!” Read additional analysis at the Washington Examiner.

The anti-human climate alarmism cult

There is a 38% chance that 2014 was the hottest year on record … by two-100ths of a degree.

Nevertheless, The New York Times announced that 2014 had been “hottest year” in “recorded history” and one warmist blogger screamed that the previous heat record had been “shattered.”

Cue apocalyptic sound track. Or not.

2015_05 Polar ice caps have not melted

On May 25, 2015, MIT Professor emeritus Richard Lindzen explained the absurdity of alarmist claims about global temperatures.

Seventy percent of the earth is oceans, we can’t measure those temperatures very well. They can be off a half a degree, a quarter of a degree. Even two-10ths of a degree of change would be tiny but two-100ths is ludicrous.”

Whenever Lindzen debunks the latest climate alarmist claim, he gets mail and phone calls accusing him of being a sociopathic shill for the energy industry. He explains how absurd it is that anyone thinks climate deniers are the ones being paid off.

“You have all these people, the Gores and so on, making hundreds of millions of dollars on this [climate alarmism], Exxon Mobil giving $100 million to Stanford for people who are working on promoting this hysteria.”

In his opinion, the climate alarmists behave like cultists.

“As with any cult, once the mythology of the cult begins falling apart, instead of saying, oh, we were wrong, they get more and more fanatical.”

Plus, their claims to being on the side of “science” is absurd. Until recently, periods of greater warmth were referred to as “climate optimum.” Optimum is derived from a Latin word meaning “best.”

“Nobody ever questioned that those were the good periods. All of a sudden you were able to inculcate people with the notion that you have to be afraid of warmth.”

He also points out that it is the global climate policies the alarmists are pushing that are anti-human, because they seek to reduce the standard of living for all but the wealthy elite. These policies are particularly harsh for undeveloped nations where most of the population lives in dire poverty.

“Anything you do to impoverish people, and certainly all the planned policies will impoverish people, is actually costing lives. But the environmental movement has never cared about that.”

Not simply wrong, but spectacularly wrong.

Climate Alarmists have been around since before the first Earth Day back in 1970, calling us denier-types rude names and screaming, “The science is SETTLED (so shut up and do as you’re told).”

I think it’s only fair to have a look back at what these people were FOR CERTAIN SURE would have happened by now if we didn’t let draconian government regulations destroy our freedoms.

1970 Denis Hayes

1970: “Demographers agree almost unanimously on the following grim timetable: by 1975 widespread famines will begin in India; these will spread by 1990 to include all of India, Pakistan, China and the Near East, Africa. By the year 2000, or conceivably sooner, South and Central America will exist under famine conditions. … By the year 2000, thirty years from now, the entire world, with the exception of Western Europe, North America, and Australia, will be in famine.– Peter Gunter (North Texas State University philosophy professor)

1970: The death rate will increase until at least 100-200 million people per year will be starving to death during the next ten years.” “Air pollution … is certainly going to take hundreds of thousands of lives in the next few years alone.” He also opined that, because of air pollution, Americans born since 1946 had a life expectancy of only 49 years and that this would drop to 42 years by 1980, after which it might level out. – Paul Ehrlich (Stanford University biology professor)

1970: “Civilization will end within 15 or 30 years unless immediate action is taken against problems facing mankind.” – George Wald (Harvard biology professor)

1970: “Scientists have solid experimental and theoretical evidence to support … the following predictions: In a decade, urban dwellers will have to wear gas masks to survive air pollution … by 1985 air pollution will have reduced the amount of sunlight reaching earth by one half.” – Life magazine (January)

1970: “Man must stop pollution and conserve his resources, not merely to enhance existence but to save the race from intolerable deterioration and possible extinction.” – New York Times (Earth Day editorial)

1970: “Dr. S. Dillon Ripley, secretary of the Smithsonian Institute, believes that in 25 years, somewhere between 75 and 80 percent of all the species of living animals will be extinct.” – Look magazine
