Chicago: An Object Lesson in Gun Control

2014_07 04 Chicago gun violence

Since the early 1970s, Chicago and its suburban municipalities have taken a national lead in enacting firearms control legislation. Citizens’ groups such as the Committee for Handgun Control, formed in 1973 and renamed Illinois Citizens for Handgun Control in 1982, have worked together with city politicians and police to pass some of the nation’s toughest gun control laws. Mayor Richard J. Daley was outspoken in his stand against gun rights activists, testifying before U.S. House subcommittees on gun violence in 1972 and creating a special court to process gun crimes. In response to rising gun violence by the end of the 1970s, several Chicago aldermen began exploring the idea of a freeze on handgun registration.” -Encyclopedia Britannica

Chicago has the strictest gun-control laws in the country. “Assault weapons” and high-capacity magazines are completely banned, and up until a 2010 Supreme Court decision, handguns were banned, too. Residents now can get a permit to own a gun, but the process requires training, background checks and a firearm owner’s identification card. Only 7,640 people currently hold a firearms permit in Chicago, but police seized 7,400 guns used in crimes in 2012 alone.” – Washington Times

Gun bans invite crime

One (of many) reasons I prefer to have dogs is that they bark at outside noises. I read a news story once about a dog that had gone all barky in the middle of the night, then the next day, the homeowner found one of his window screens had been tampered with AND his dog-less next door neighbor had been robbed.

Do the math.  Now add the insane STUPIDITY of posting “No Guns Here” signs on your property!  I wonder how insurance companies feel about extending coverage to people who are stupid enough to INVITE criminals to come rob them.

The real story behind Democrats and Gun Control

FUNNY – California state Senator Leland Yee: Part-time politician, full-time arms dealer

SERIOUS – Mar 26, 2014: State Sen. Leland Yee arrested

The FBI says Yee told an undercover agent to give him a shopping list of guns, assuring him he could get automatic weapons and RPGs. Yee promised to take responsibility for brokering and delivering the deal in exchange for cash and/or campaign donations.

Yee said he had a connection with Russian arms dealers and Filipino Muslim terrorists who had no problem ‘kidnapping individuals, killing individuals, and extorting them for ransom.”

Yee took envelopes full of cash to influence public policy, violated campaign contribution limit laws, and laundered money for a Chinese crime syndicate headed up by Shrimp Boy Chow. Yee’s fundraiser Keith Jackson was the go-between man.

Yee was arrested alongside a Chinese gangster, Raymond “Shrimp Boy” Chow, as part of an FBI public corruption investigation. Below is a 2012 ABC report about how Democrat politicians shoveled money and praise at “Shrimp Boy” despite his felonious past and shady connections.

More Democrat Corruption

2014_03 26 Lee arrested

And we’re not talking about pea-shooters here. The charges are for conspiring with a known Chinese organized crime lord to illegally import millions of dollars worth of serious firepower, including rocket launchers and machine guns!

In 1992, Yee was arrested for the alleged shoplifting of a bottle of tanning oil from the KTA Superstore in Kona’s Keauhou Shopping Village. The case was not prosecuted, as Yee disappeared before he could be prosecuted.

We should totes trust these people, rather than GREEDY HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANIES, cuz like they’re Democrats and we all know that Democrats are the SMART people, the GOOD people, the CARING people … except they’re not. I’ll take a greedy health insurance company over government any day. If they break the law, I can report them or sue them or take my business elsewhere. With the government … not so much. I won a settlement against Social Security for improperly shorting my disability payments by $4,000. That was 12 years ago. I’m still waiting for them to reimburse me. The lawyer just shrugs and says, “They’re slow. It’s in the system, so there’s nothing to do but wait.”

SC bar insults potential customers

2014_03 No guns in bar sign

Tweeters responded:

  • So, no off duty cops?
    • Backstreets considers all cops to be losers.
    • I’m sure that will go over well when they call 911.
  • Amazing that you would insult the ppl that could potentially save the lives of your patrons in the event of a robbery.
    • Trying to protect myself and my kids makes me a loser? To each his own.
    • I’ll take my Glock over your beer.
    • Way to alienate 37% of your potential customers.
  • “We the People” are happy to go elsewhere.
    • Notice how the Right doesn’t try to sue them for not wanting our business, just shops elsewhere?
    • Remember when the Left did that? Me neither.
  • Dear US Gun Owners, @BackstreetsPub in Clemson, SC, just called you douchebags.
    • On his Facebook, he called you mouth-breathing morons.
    • Well, yeah, but I’m so sure that he’s totally into respecting diversity. Or something.
    • I respect his right to self-identify as a moron.
    • A soon-to-be out of business moron.
  • If the sign said NO GAYS ALLOWED … national news and 24/7 protests.
    • Can I sue this place for refusing to serve me and my gun?
    • Nah. You can only sue him if he refuses to serve you and your gay lover.
    • What if I wanted a gun-shaped cake?
  • It was simply amazing to watch the pub’s Yelp ranking tank thirty minutes after this hit the web.
    • 3 reviews before vs. 273 reviews since.

So ridiculous, and yet so unsurprising

My pick of tweets and comments at Twitchy:

  • Who’s more dumb, Sheila Jackson Lee or the people who keep voting her into office?
  • Having once lived in her district, I can confidently say “yes.”
  • Find that U.S. flag on Mars yet, Sheila?
  • I wasn’t surprised that Sheila Jackson Lee thinks the Constitution is over 400 yrs old. I was surprised she knew we had a constitution.
  • Now imagine if Sarah Palin had said the Constitution is 400 years old.
  • Or that we had “two Vietnams, North and South.”

  • 400 years……..??? Isn’t that the last time Guam capsized….?????
  • Scary isn’t it that these people think they’re better than us.

More “wisdom” from the Congresswoman in the Black Skin:

“I stand here as a freed slave because this Congress came together.” Sheila Jackson Lee, February 13, 2013

“Let us vote to provide for unemployment insurance for working men and women so that faces across America will not have the tear of desperation on their faces.” Sheila Jackson Lee, December 12, 2013

“Don’t condemn the gangbangers, they’ve got guns that are trafficked, that are not enforced, that are straw purchased and they come into places even that have strong gun laws. Why? Because we don’t have sensible gun legislation.” Sheila Jackson Lee, April 9, 2013

Excellent video about guns and murder rates

This is really well done. A quick, clear and persuasive examination of gun ownership vs. homicide rates that stacks up to be bad news for Musket Morgan and his “screw the 2d amendment” crowd.

They’re not called DUMBocrats for nothing

2013_01 McCarthy sounds stupid on guns

A year ago, Democrat Representative Carolyn McCarthy (NY) said we needed to ban the sale of guns and ammo, because if they are “not in the stores, they can’t be bought.”

An FBI study of gun crimes found that only 20% of gun crimes had been committed with weapons purchased at a store, while only 2% of gun crimes had been committed with the kind of weapons McCarthy was pointing at in the photo.

The good news is this particular DUMBocrat has decided not to run for re-election.
