IN MEMORIAM

My coffee maker died a quiet death this morning.Services will be later today when its given a proper sendoff.I brewed a cup of tea,but its just not the same.I don’t know if I can carry on,but I’ll try.

“I’LL HAVE THE LABRADOR STEAK AND MY DATE WILL HAVE THE SCOOBY SNACK PLATTER.”

An Ithaca High School classmate of mine sent this link saying,

“For many years it has been hard for me to be proud of my hometown, Ithaca, NY. This changes that. The Ithaca I left 25 years ago is evidently not the Ithaca of today. Every police, fire and EMS agency in Tompkins and Cortland Counties honored this young Marine. Thank you Cpl. Chris Bordoni, for your service and your sacrifice. Semper Fi.”

It’s a little tin-hatty in tone, but I assure you, this stuff is all true. I was born and educated in Ithaca. I’ve lived in the general area for more than half a century. Think of all the images that come to mind when you hear the word “Berkeley.” Now beam that over to the base of Cayuga Lake in Central New York, squash it into a much smaller town, and you’ve got the picture.

I got to thinking yesterday about the difference between Republican First Ladies and Democrat First Ladies.

On one side you have Nancy Reagan,Barbara Bush and Laura Bush.On the other are Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama.Republican First Ladies have grace,dignity,and are content to let their husbands get the publicity.All chose to put home and family ahead of personal ambitions.

In Clinton and Obama you have ambition-driven,selfish,power-hungry women who I am convinced stay with their husbands to share the power and the riches.They do not accept as valid anyone who does not think exactly as they do.I think their fake smiles betray a soul full of want,never satisfied with what they have and always craving more.It is not possible to find true peace without a faith in God and a servant’s heart.That is something the two of them will never achieve.
