EDUCATION: [2:42] – What possible reason could there be for any English class to include Sexually Explicit Material (SEM)? I am familiar with the Texas state curriculum standards website, because a professional art teacher suggested I use it to guide lesson planning for the art classes I am teaching my home schooled Texas grandkids. So I checked the high school Language Arts section. It talks about developing students’ abilities in both “oral and written comprehension and expression” and mentions “multiple genres” but nowhere is any mention of SEM. If, and I stress IF, a teacher wants to do a lesson or unit on SEM as a genre, the parents should certainly be notified about it, offered a chance to review the materials, assignments, and curriculum goals, and provided with an opt in or opt out permission form.

I wonder if Harris will continue to tell us her convenient untruth: “There is not one member of the military who is in active duty in a combat zone in any war zone around the world for the first time this century.”
She gets this based on a technicality, which is that we aren’t engaged in any large scale so-called wars. But the Founders reserved the power to declare war to Congress … which has not done so since World War II. So Harris’ claim was true not only for Bush’s “stupid war”, but also in the previous century when our 36K+ of our troops died in Korea and 58K+ died in Vietnam.

ROWLING: Personally, I wouldn’t roast marshmallows over burning books. There’s no telling what toxins are in the smoke … from the ink, glue, etc. Not from the ideas the author espouses but did not include in her wonderful stories. ::smh:: I mean … at least her books are actually fun and interesting, unlike leftist stories that constantly beat you over the head with their ideologies.

By contrast, remember what happened when Congress shut down the government under Obama and the White House gardeners went home? They photographed the produce in “Michelle’s” famous organic garden rotting on the ground and tried to blame it on Republicans.

As to the first part of the meme, it would be impossible to know all he wrote, much less said. However, his hostility to Christianity was such a pervasive part of his life that he ended every letter to friends with “Ecrasez l’infame” (“Crush the infamy” – i.e., the Christian religion). And in 1764 he wrote, “The Bible. That is what fools have written, what imbeciles commend, what rogues teach and young children are made to learn by heart” and “We are living in the twilight of Christianity.” (Voltaire, Philosophical Dictionary, 1764).
As to the second part of the meme, Voltaire died in Paris, so it’s no stretch to think the second part of the meme is also true. Sixteen years after his death, a Bible publisher in Ferney, France, had obtained and was using not only the printing presses Voltaire had used, but also the paper he had made. Also documented is that, 58 years after his death, Voltaire’s former home in Geneva, Switzerland, was being used to store Bibles and Gospel tracts belonging to the local Evangelical Society.
