This isn’t America any more

Martin Richard, the 8-year-old boy who died in the Boston Marathon bombing, was a Catholic who had received his First Communion just last year. As Martin lay dying, he was denied the comfort of a priest. This was not for lack of proximity. When the priests at St. Clement’s, just three blocks away, heard the explosions, they gathered sacramental oils and hurried to the scene.They were barred from the scene. Non-uniformed citizen were allowed to help tend the wounded. Even a three-foot-high blue M&M was there. But the guys with the backwards collars? Nada.

Separation of church and state

Last week, Fox News reported that an Army training instructor told a Reserve unit based in Pennsylvania that Evangelical Christianity and Catholicism were examples of religious extremism. The Army categorized that episode as an isolated incident.

Not so.

A U.S. Army officer sent an email to three dozen subordinates at Fort Campbell in Kentucky listing the American Family Association and Family Research Council as “domestic hate groups” and warned officers to monitor soldiers who might be supporters of the groups.

These are just the latest.

Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Jerry Boykin, who served more than 36 years in the military before retiring in 2007, says that since Obama took office, the attacks on religious liberty have escalated alarmingly. Among the incidents:

  • A War Games scenario at Fort Leavenworth that identified Christian groups and Evangelical groups as being potential threats;
  • A 2009 Dept. of Homeland Security memorandum that identified future threats to national security coming from Evangelicals and pro-life groups;
  • A West Point study released by the U.S. Military Academy’s Combating Terrorism Center that linked pro-lifers to terrorism;
  • Evangelical leader Franklin Graham was uninvited from the Pentagon’s National Day of Prayer service because of his comments about Islam;
  • Christian prayers were banned at the funeral services for veterans at Houston’s National Cemetery;
  • Bibles were banned at Walter Reed Army Medical Center – a decision that was later rescinded;
  • Christian crosses and a steeple were removed from a chapel in Afghanistan because the military said the icons disrespected other religions;
  • Catholic chaplains were forbidden to read an archbishop’s letter to parishioners about Obamacare mandates.

The Gospel is in all 196 nations!

Good News to all nations

I came across these words of Our Lord the other day and it got me curious to know if this “gotta happen before He comes again” sign had been fulfilled yet. So I googled. There are 196 nations in the world. I looked them all up and learned that, indeed, the Good News has been preached to ALL NATIONS!

Nations where Christians are not persecuted, grouped by size of population, then alphabetically

  • Less than 10% Christian (14 nations): Albania, Bangladesh, Cambodia, The Gambia, Israel, Japan, Kosovo, Mongolia, Nepal, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey.
  • Between 10% and 50% Christian (15 nations): Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, Czech Republic, Estonia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Korea (South), Liberia, Madagascar, Mauritius, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Togo.
  • More than 50% Christian (118 nations): Andorra, Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Austria, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belarus, Belgium, Belize, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Brazil, Bulgaria, Burundi, Cameroon, Canada, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chile, Congo (Republic of the), Congo (Democratic Republic of the), Costa Rica, Croatia, Cuba, Cyprus, Denmark, Dominica, Dominican Republic, East Timor, Ecuador, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Fiji, Finland, France, Gabon, Georgia, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Kiribati, Latvia, Lebanon, Lesotho, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malawi, Malta, Marshall Islands, Mexico, Micronesia (Federated States of), Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Mozambique, Namibia, Nauru, Netherlands (The), New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Palau, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, San Marino, Sao Tome and Principe, Serbia, Seychelles, Slovakia, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, South Africa, South Sudan, Spain, Suriname, Swaziland, Sweden, Switzerland, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tuvalu, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States of America, Uruguay, Vanuatu, Vatican City, Venezuela, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Nations where Christians are persecuted, grouped by degree then ranked by severity (2013 Open Doors list)

Note: The majority of these nations have <10% Christian population. Where it is more, the nation is starred.

  • EXTREME (11 nations): North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Maldives, Mali, Iran, Yemen, Eritrea*, Syria.
  • SEVERE (12 nations): Sudan, Nigeria, Pakistan, Ethiopia*, Uzbekistan, Libya, Laos, Turkmenistan, Qatar, Vietnam, Oman, Mauritania.
  • MODERATE (22 nations & one territory): Tanzania*, Egypt*, United Arab Emirates, Brunei, Bhutan, Algeria, Tunisia, India, Burma (Myanmar), Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain, (Palestinian Territories, listed for persecution, but not recognized as a nation), China, Azerbaijan, Morocco, Kenya*, Comoros, Malaysia*, Djibouti, Tajikistan*, Indonesia*, Colombia*.
  • SPARSE (4 nations): Uganda*, Kazakhstan*, Kyrgyzstan*, Niger.

SUMMARY of persecution sources

  • MUSLIM (41 nations): Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Maldives, Mali, Iran, Yemen, Eritrea*, Syria; Sudan, Nigeria, Pakistan, Ethiopia*, Uzbekistan, Libya, Turkmenistan, Qatar, Oman, Mauritania; Tanzania*, Egypt*, United Arab Emirates, Brunei, Algeria, Tunisia, Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain, Palestinian Territories, Azerbaijan, Morocco, Kenya*, Comoros, Malaysia*, Djibouti, Tajikistan*, Indonesia*; Uganda*, Kazakhstan*, Kyrgyzstan*, Niger.
  • BUDDHIST (4 nations): Laos, Vietnam; Bhutan, Burma (Myanmar).
  • ATHEIST (2 nations): North Korea (#1 worst for eleven straight years); China.
  • HINDU (1 nation): India.
  • DRUG CARTELS (1 nation): Colombia*.
  • CHRISTIAN (2 nations): Eritrea* and Ethiopia* also appear on the MUSLIM list and require some extra explanation from Open Doors site.

Eritrea* – All evangelical churches were closed in 2002 following a government ban on religious groups other than Orthodox, Catholic, Lutheran and Islam. The government is very hard on non-traditional Christians, but members of the Orthodox Church also report on evangelical believers, and Muslim extremists are ready to take over where the government leaves off. When believers are discovered they are arrested and held in shipping containers in military camps. At least 105 Christians were arrested in 2012, and 31 Christians were reported to have died in prison.

Ethiopia* – For years, the Ethiopian Orthodox Church has persecuted believers who have left their ranks or joined renewal movements. But Islamic extremism has now become the dominant source of persecution. Converts and ‘underground believers’ have to be very cautious to avoid being traced. Muslim fanatic group, Kewarjah, is repeatedly blamed for attacks against Christians in the south-west. A new law banning all religious messages and talks from public spaces is expected to bring a wave of restrictions against Christians.

2013 Christian Persecution World Watch List

2013 Christian Persecution World Watch List

#1 EXTREME: NORTH KOREA = COMMUNIST

For the eleventh year running, this atheistic Communist nation is the most difficult place on Earth to be a Christian. Christians face arrest, detention, torture, even public execution.

#2 thru #9 and #11 EXTREME: SAUDI ARABIA, AFGHANISTAN, IRAQ, SOMALIA, MALDIVES, MALI, IRAN, YEMEN, SYRIA = MUSLIM

In these Islamic nations, Christians risk imprisonment, lashing, deportation and torture. Muslims who convert to Christianity risk honour killings.

#10 EXTREME: ERITREA = STATE-CONTROLLED DENOMINATIONS ONLY

The government bans all but state-approved, registered Orthodox, Catholic, Lutheran or Islamic groups. Anyone discovered to be an evangelical is tortured and forced to revert to the registered denominations. If they don’t, they are held in military camps without trial.

Hobby Lobby Defies Obama Administration with Civil Disobedience for Religious Liberty by Ken Klukowski – Dec 28, 2012

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/12/28/Hobby-Lobby-Defies-Obama-Administration-with-Civil-Disobedience-for-Religious-Liberty

“We must obey God rather than men!”—Acts 5:29.

Now that Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor has denied Hobby Lobby’s application for an emergency injunction protecting them from Obamacare’s HHS Mandate on abortion and birth control, Hobby Lobby has decided to defy the federal government to remain true to their religious beliefs, at enormous risk and financial cost.

Hobby Lobby is wholly owned and controlled by the Green family, who are evangelical Christians. The Greens are committed to running their business in accordance with their Christian faith, believing that God wants them to conduct their professional business in accordance with the family’s understanding of the Bible. Hobby Lobby’s mission statement includes, “Honoring the Lord in all we do by operating the company … consistent with Biblical principles.”

The HHS Mandate goes into effect for Hobby Lobby on Jan. 1, 2013. The Greens correctly understand that some of the drugs the HHS Mandate requires them to cover at no cost in their healthcare plans cause abortions.

Today Hobby Lobby announced that they will not comply with this mandate to become complicit in abortion, which the Greens believe ends an innocent human life. Given Hobby Lobby’s size (it has 572 stores employing more than 13,000 people), by violating the HHS Mandate, it will be subject to over $1.3 million in fines per day. That means over $40 million in fines in January alone. If their case takes another ten months to get before the Supreme Court—which would be the earliest it could get there under the normal order of business—the company would incur almost a half-billion dollars in fines. And then of course the Supreme Court would have to write an opinion in what would likely be a split decision with dissenters, which could easily take four or six months and include hundreds of millions of dollars in additional penalties.

This is civil disobedience, consistent with America’s highest traditions when moral issues are at stake. The Greens are a law-abiding family. They have no desire to defy their own government. But as the Founders launched the American Revolution because they believed the British government was violating their rights, the Greens believe that President Barack Obama and Secretary Kathleen Sebelius are commanding the Greens to sin against God, and that no government has the lawful authority to do so.

The Christian tradition of defying government commands to do something wrong goes back to the very birth of Christianity. When the apostles were ordered not to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with anyone, the Book of Acts records: “Peter and the other apostles replied: ‘We must obey God rather than men! The God of our fathers raised Jesus from the dead—whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree.’”

Eleven of the twelve apostles—including Peter—would lose their lives for the sake of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ; only the apostle John died of old age. They were determined to obey God’s will at all costs.

This issue of civil disobedience is never to be undertaken lightly. The Bible teaches Christians to submit to all legitimate governmental authority (e.g., Romans 13:1), and so a person can only disobey the government when there is no other way to obey God.

But here in America, the Constitution is the Supreme Law of the Land, and in its First Amendment it protects against a government establishment of an official religion and separately protects the free exercise of religion. On top of that, Congress passed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 (RFRA) to specifically add an additional layer of protection against government actions that violate a person’s religious beliefs.

The HHS Mandate is a gross violation of the religious beliefs of the Green family. The issue before the courts here is whether the Greens religious-liberty rights include running their secular, for-profit business consistent with their religious beliefs. In other words, is religious liberty just what you do in church on a Sunday morning, or does it include what you do during the week at your job?

The Greens are now putting their fortunes on the line to do what they believe is right. The courts should side with them, affirming a broad scope of religious liberty under the Constitution and RFRA. And the Supreme Court should resolve this matter with dispatch in their favor.

Millions of Christians across the country feel exactly the same way as the Greens. The Obama administration has issued a statist command that is a declaration of war on people of faith who object to abortion, and civil disobedience could break out all over the country unless the courts set this matter right—and quickly.

YAHOO! LIFE wins in ILLINOIS COURT!

Pharmacist Refusal to kill

A coercive mandate requiring Illinois pharmacists to violate their consciences has been finally been defeated!

In April 2005, then-Governor Rod Blagojevich issued a rule requiring all pharmacists dispense all drugs, regardless of their personal beliefs.

At the time, Blagojevich made public statements emphasizing that the goal of the Rule was to coerce religious pharmacists to dispense drugs that violate their beliefs.

He asked physicians to report pharmacists who refused to fill such prescriptions and issued threats to the pharmacists and their employers.

On June 8, 2005, two pharmacists sued Illinois, saying the Rule violated the Health Care Right of Conscience Act, which makes it unlawful for any public official to discriminate or punish any person who refuses to “participate in any way in any particular form of health care services contrary to his or her conscience.”

In March 2006, Blagojevich again acknowledged publicly that the Rule was directed at pharmacists who objected to dispensing certain drugs on religious or moral grounds. He declared that such individuals should find another profession.

Finally, after seven years, the long battle is over!

On September 22, 2012, a state appellate court found in favor of the pharmacists and in December 2012, the Illinois Attorney General announced that it will not appeal the case to the Illinois Supreme Court.

University pays up for expelling Christian

Tolerance is a two way street

Eastern Michigan University has agreed to pay “a sum of money” as court-ordered punishment for expelling a Christian student from a counseling program and to remove the expulsion from her record.

The 6th Circuit said the evidence showed the student “was willing to work with all clients and to respect the school’s affirmation directives in doing so.”

“That is why she asked to refer gay and lesbian clients (and some heterosexual clients) if the conversation required her to affirm their sexual practices. What more could the rule require?” the judges said.

“Surely, for example, the ban on discrimination against clients based on their religion (1) does not require a Muslim counselor tell a Jewish client that his religious beliefs are correct if the conversation takes a turn in that direction and (2) does not require an atheist counselor to tell a person of faith that there is a God if the client is wrestling with faith-based issues.”

The judges said: “Tolerance is a two-way street. Otherwise, the rule mandates orthodoxy, not anti-discrimination.”

ADF said even though counseling referrals are a common and accepted professional practice, the university instead chose to expel Ward “when she sought to avoid violating her religious beliefs by referring a potential client to another counselor.”

YES! Another court victory against HHS mandate!

Federal Judge Robert H. Cleland (Michigan) issued a decision issued late Wednesday, October 31, 2012, affirming that “potential for harm to plaintiffs exists, and with the showing plaintiffs have made thus far of being able to convincingly prove their case at trial, it is properly characterized as irreparable.”

The judge’s decision means the federal government will not be allowed to enforce its HHS mandate until the lawsuit is resolved.

In an earlier case in Denver, U.S. District Judge John J. Kane of Colorado issued a similar order preventing enforcement of the mandate.

The “HHS mandate” is a set of regulations adopted by Barack Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services, run by the emphatically pro-abortion Kathleen Sebelius, that forces employers, regardless of religious faith, to pay for insurance coverage for contraception, abortion-inducing drugs and sterilization.

2012 The Stark Choice

In today’s political climate, there is NO

Pro-Choice “personally opposed but” option.

There is only Pro-Abortion or Pro-Life.

  • Obama/Biden want to force all Americans to not just tolerate, but actually finance abortion “without limit and without apology.”
  • Romney/Ryan want to see Roe v. Wade overturned and legal protection for unborn citizens restored.

Christians Can’t Sit This Election Out, Most Important in History

Not clear about the fact that those are the ONLY choices?

Know someone who needs help understanding that those are the ONLY choices?

Check out any and all of the following.

Romney: I Want the Supreme Court to Overturn Roe v. Wade
In an interview with the Columbus Dispatch newspaper, presidential candidate Mitt Romney said, once again, that he wants the Supreme Court to overturn the infamous Roe v. Wade decision that has paved the way for 55 million abortions.
Romney wants states to be able to protect unborn children and, in his interview with the newspaper, indicated overturning Roe was more possible in the current political climate than a Human Life Amendment.

The Obama Abortion Agenda: Reviewing The Last Four Years
Over the four years of Barack Obama’s presidency, substantial damage has been inflicted to longstanding pro-life policies. In addition, new programs have been created which, during the years ahead, will result in large-scale federal subsidies to health plans that pay for abortion, other federally driven expansions of abortion, and rationing of lifesaving medical care, unless remedial legislation is enacted. In addition, Obama placed two strongly pro-abortion justices on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Obama Campaign Can’t Name One Abortion Limit He Would Support
Leaders of President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign insisted that Obama doesn’t support unlimited abortions but, when asked, they failed to come up with a single abortion limit Obama would support. The failure is not surprising given that Obama has taken 231 pro-abortion actions as president.

Joe Biden Lies Again: Planned Parenthood DOES Perform Abortions”
Campaigning in Wisconsin, pro-abortion Vice President Joe Biden misled voters today by saying Planned Parenthood, the nation’s biggest abortion business doesn’t do any abortions. Planned Parenthood does about one-in-four of all the abortions in this nation. Under law, Planned Parenthood can’t use the federal funding it gets to pay for abortions, which is a distinction without a difference, since it does use federal funding for rent, utilities and staff salaries, all of which contribute toward its thriving abortion business.
