Understanding Obama vs. The Little Sisters

“You don’t have to assassinate that guy yourself. You just have to contract a hit man to do it for you.”

That’s the whole thing in a nutshell. Obama will graciously allow nuns who care for poor elderly folks to not provide birth control and abortion pills in their health insurance plan, provided they require another health insurance plan to do it for them. Riiiight. Cuz paying someone else to do something is morally SO different from doing it yourself. NOT.

This is what Progressives call “religious freedom.” I saw that kind of “freedom” when I visited Budapest in 1965 and Moscow in 1972.

Below is a good, clear explanation to assist you in getting up to speed on this important issue.

Little Sisters of the Poor Case: The Administration’s Position Goes from the Absurd to the Surreal

By Matt Bowman – January 6, 2014

The Obama administration told the Supreme Court that nuns running an elder-care facility should have to provide “free” abortion drugs through their health-insurance plan. Witness your tax dollars at work.

There is hope, though, that your hard-earned pay won’t be wasted on absurdities like this much longer. Religious freedom is so embedded in American law that Obamacare has suffered court orders against its mandate in 53 of 60 rulings so far.

Yet despite having many opportunities to promote abortion without involving people of faith, the Obama administration refuses to cut its losses. Instead it has doubled down ferociously – insisting on coercing even nuns to participate in its anti-life, anti-religious agenda.

An Open Letter to GLAAD

Angela hits it out of the park … again. She’s good at that. 🙂

An Open Letter to GLAAD By angelaisms     – Dec 23, 2013

Dear GLAAD,

In the spirit of the generosity that marks this particular time of year, I have a message for you:

Get over yourselves.

I’ve not been one of the people who has been fully immersed in this Phil Robertson brouhaha, but I’ve still managed to get the gist of things — he called your (and many others’) actions sinful in a public interview.

Well, boo-frickin’-hoo.

I am a member of the only (thank goodness!) church in United States history that has ever had a government-approved kill order out for its members. I have ancestors that, as members of that church, eventually fled the United States for the Mexican territory because, ultimately, their only other option was to get killed by a mob. …

OBAMACARE updates

December 19, 2013: U.S. District Court Judge Emmet G. Sullivan ruled against Priests for Life in their lawsuit against the HHS abortion mandate. In other words, in his opinion, our First Amendment right to freedom of religion is subject to the government’s approval. Since a different District Court Judge ruled the OTHER way on this matter, it’s virtually a done deal that the issue will go to the United States Supreme Court. You can donate to the Priests for Life legal fund @ https://www.priestsforlife.org/donate/donate-creditcard.aspx

December 19, 2013: The White House announced it will grant a “hardship exemption” for people who have had their prior coverage canceled and believe that Obamacare’s offerings are unaffordable. Note: This isn’t insurance. It’s just an exemption from the FINE for not having insurance. But, oh goodie, Obama is encouraging health insurers to make up bare bones options for these people … which the guy in this video says aren’t affordable either.

So … those people we have heard about? The ones with cancer, MS and other devastating illness who WERE getting the care they wanted but have had their health insurance plans eliminated by Obamacrat Decree? THOSE people are STILL SCREWED … and the individual health insurance market is in chaos.

Brief news items

Some of these are from Pete’s report, but some are from Facebook and my email. I forgot to mark which were which, so please forgive the repeats.

TYPHOON HAIYAN: The U.S. military’s Pacific Command is helping relief efforts in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan. The U.S. effort is expected to include at least 90 Marines and sailors as well as a cargo planes and helicopters.

A FIRST CLASS THANK YOU: A small group of First Class passengers swapped tickets with a group of vets returning from Afghanistan, so they could enjoy a more comfortable ride on the last leg of their 3-day journey home.

HHS MANDATE: The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit voted 2-1 against the HHS mandate requiring all businesses to pay for birth control or abortion-causing drugs for its employees, regardless of the religious or conscience objections of the owners. The court also ruled the defendants cannot be forced to abide by mandate while the Obama administration appeals to the Supreme Court.

BHO APPROVAL GAP: The latest RCP average shows the largest spread of Obama’s presidency at -11.2 points (approvals minus disapprovals). The largest previous gap was -10.2 points in August 2011.

DEM CRONYISM: Washington Examiner reported the Obama DOE has again shoveled tax dollars into Dem donor businesses. Nine of the 14 grants went to firms that gave more than $100,000 each to Democrats and Left-leaning groups.

BUT WHAT HAVE THEY DONE FOR THE HOMIES? The national unemployment rate for 16-19 year olds is 7.3%. The unemployment rate for blacks in this age group is 36.0% …. 393% higher than the national unemployment rate.

BUT AT LEAST THEY GET FOOD STAMPS, RIGHT? Uh, not so much. Food stamp allotments are going down, not because of Eeeevil Republicans, but because Obama the Caring has taken money from the food stamp program to help fund his wife’s anti-obesity initiative, the “Let’s Move” program.

BØGUS: The White Hut claims they’re going to finally release an official number of ObamaCare sales. However, an administration official told WaPo they’re going to count in people who have placed policies in their online shopping carts, but haven’t actually purchased them.

MØRE GØØFS: The Seattle Times reported the state’s ObamaCare Web site messed up their numbers. Nearly 8,000 Washington state residents will soon find out they will be paying more for ObamaCare than they were told when they purchased it.

CØVER UP: The White House won’t allow their computer boss to testify about why he didn’t do his job in the first place cuz, you know, he’s too busy trying to make the damn website work … six weeks after it was opened for business.

HEALTHCARE.GOV: Scam-artist web pages pretending to be Healthcare.gov are tricking people into divulging sensitive information or buying fake products. Important consumer warning: If an insurance shopping website is usable, it’s not the federal government’s.

WE TOLD THEM BUT THEY WOULDN’T LISTEN: “Had Americans known that Obamacare would actually raise premiums and cause millions of folks to lose their health policies, it never would have become law.” –Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas

Disgraceful behavior at Temple Mount

I found the article below at the Jerusalem Post. I hope you’ll take the time to read it. Bolding added by CtH.

Rights to the Temple Mount By David Kirshenbaum – October 15, 2013

http://www.jpost.com/Opinion/Op-Ed-Contributors/Rights-to-the-Temple-Mount-328803

It is time the police start enforcing the most basic of religious rights, for Jews as well as Muslims.

In a democracy that prides itself on upholding free religious expression, incitement, intimidation and the use of deadly violence to prevent such free expression should not be tolerated, and certainly not rewarded. It shouldn’t matter whether the violence is engaged in by members of the majority religion or by members of a religious minority.

Sadly, this principle is not followed in the State of Israel.

Judaism’s holiest site for over 3,000 years has been the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. It is on the Temple Mount that both the First and Second Temples stood, where millions of Jews from all over the Israel and the Diaspora made the three Festival Pilgrimages and where, according to Jewish belief, the Third Temple, ushering in the days of the Messiah, is destined to be built. Throughout history, wherever Jews were engaged in prayer, they faced Jerusalem. And in Jerusalem, they pray in the direction of the Temple Mount.

Yet, even though the State of Israel is in full control of Jerusalem, Jews, Christians and all non-Muslims are forbidden entry to the Temple Mount, except during very limited hours. And during those few hours, Jews can only walk in near silence; they may not pray.

A member of the Wakf, the Muslim religious council, monitors the movements of Jewish visitors, and the Israel Police will arrest any Jew upon a complaint by a Wakf member that a Jew was praying on the Temple Mount.

This happened to me and my daughter when we visited the Temple Mount the day before her wedding.

Her swaying in silent meditation was enough to anger our Wakf monitor and land us in the police station for hours for threatening the public welfare.

Any discussion of changing this woeful crushing of religious freedom elicits threats of severe violence from the Wakf, Arab Knesset members and the Islamic Movement in Israel. This incitement works wonders, as Israeli law enforcement officials regularly cite these threats in defending their discriminatory treatment of Jews on the Temple Mount.

During Jewish holiday periods, the level of incitement is raised, often accompanied by the hurling of blocks of stone at Jews on the Temple Mount and at Jewish worshipers in the Western Wall Plaza.

This pattern repeated itself during the this past Succot.

Israeli police responded in the way they always do: They did not stand up to the violent lawbreakers and protect the basic religious rights of law-abiding Jews. Nor did they take the less challenging but less equitable option of closing down the Temple Mount to all.

While this would have unfairly punished Jewish worshipers, including Muslims in the ban might have at least served as a deterrence to future violence.

Some price would have been paid by the perpetrators of religious terror.

Instead, the police took the path that requires the least work, elicits the least resistance, and results in the greatest inequity. On three of the Festival days, police closed the Temple Mount, not to Muslims, but only to Jews and other non-Muslims. Hate and violence were rewarded.

On a recent post-Succot visit to the Temple Mount – I was one of those turned away during the holiday – the group of Jews I was with had to wait an hour until we were allowed in. The police felt unable to deal with more than 25 identifiably Jewish visitors at a time. While we waited for police approval, hundreds of tourists, mostly from Europe, flowed in without a problem.

When we finally entered, we were immediately greeted by taunting screams from tens of Arab women. The harassment of Jewish visitors to the Temple Mount is part of their daily routine. Our group was led by Rabbi Yisrael Ariel, a member of the battalion of Paratroopers that liberated the Old City and the Temple Mount in the Six Day War.

Almost immediately, and frequently during the visit, Rabbi Ariel was spoken to rudely by the police, who didn’t like where he was standing or how fast or slow he was moving. At the end of the visit, as were exiting, Rabbi Ariel, who is 74 and battling cancer, was arrested and roughed up in the process.

What enraged the police and the Wakf was that Rabbi Ariel purportedly bowed down in a form of prayer.

The fear that the police have of the Arabs on the Temple Mount is palpable. When we were verbally assaulted by the Arabs upon our entry, the police made not the slightest effort to quiet them, this in marked distinction from their immediate and angry silencing of any form of Jewish prayer. Rather, their response was to quickly move us past the hateful bigots. And when we were again cursed near the end of our visit, the sole and frightened response of the police was to ask us to leave.

It is time the police start enforcing the most basic of religious rights, for Jews as well as Muslims, that our law enforcement authorities cease cowering in the face of Arab violence and stop their shameful hiding behind Muslim religious terror as an excuse for their failure to uphold the law.

Obama attack on religion is SOP

Obama violates religious freedom

A year ago, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius issued a “preventive services” regulation under Obamacare. This regulation requires almost all health care plans to cover, without fees or co-pay, sterilizations, artificial contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs.

The U.S. Catholic bishops have unanimously condemned this regulation. Calling it “illegal and unjust”, the bishops have encouraged all American Catholics to disobey it.

In October of 2012, the Catholic Kennedy family that owns Autocam sued the government over this issue.

Last month, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit ruled against them, saying the sole owners’ First Amendment rights don’t count, because “the mandate falls on Autocam.”

It does not matter to the court that the Kennedys are the sole owners of Autocom or that they are great bosses to their 661 employees, precisely because they live their Catholic-Christian faith in every aspect of their business.

The Kennedys intend to appeal their case to the Supreme Court.

Obama will arrest priests for celebrating Mass?

Every time I think the Obama Democrats have hit bottom, they find some way to dig their Hell Pit a little deeper.

The U.S. military is roughly 25% Catholic, but Catholic priests make up only about 8% of the active duty Chaplain Corps.

The 275,000 Catholic men and women in uniform (and their spouses and children) are served by only 234 active duty priests.

The military deals with this priest shortage by hiring local civilian priests to service bases where an active duty Catholic Chaplain is not present.

These priests are among those government personnel the Obama Democrats refuse to pay during the government shutdown.

But it goes further. Obama Democrats are not just refusing to pay civilian priests; they are also threatening to ARREST them if they even try to VOLUNTEER.

Military communion

Kansas Rep. Mike Pompeo, a graduate of West Point and an Army veteran, issued a statement today saying,

“The President’s strategy during the slowdown, just as during the sequestration, is to create as much pain as possible. However, this action crosses a constitutional line of obstructing every U.S. service member’s ability to practice his or her religion.

I just emailed the Archbishop of the AMS and said I hoped he planned to encourage his priests to defy Obama.

The WWII vets said NO and won. If priests just show up at every base as usual, they’ll win that as well.

ABOUT the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS)

  • AMS was created as an independent archdiocese by Pope John Paul II in 1985 as the only Catholic jurisdiction responsible for endorsing and granting faculties for priests to serve as chaplains in the U.S. military and VA Medical Centers.
  • AMS-endorsed chaplains serve at more than 220 U.S. military installations in 29 countries, making the AMS the nation’s only global archdiocese. AMS-endorsed chaplains also serve at 153 VA Medical Centers throughout the U.S.
  • The AMS service population also includes American Catholic civilians working for the federal government in 134 countries, but currently, due to limited resources, the AMS cannot adequately serve this population.
  • Worldwide, an estimated 1.8 million Catholics depend on the AMS to meet their spiritual and sacramental needs.

We Will Not Comply

Civil disobedience - Gandhi

October 1, 2013 – Obamacare Exchanges open, ushering in mandated direct and/or indirect funding for abortion in most health insurance policies.

  • The ACA requires that health insurance premiums include at least a monthly one dollar surcharge that will be used directly to underwrite abortions.
  • The HHS Mandate requires all non-exempt businesses and institutions – including religious institutions – facilitate contraception, sterilizations and abortion-inducing drugs in their policies.

Civil disobedience - composite

A coalition of pro-life leaders has developed a unified “We Will Not Comply” response to this assault on life, conscience and religious liberty.

A Pledge for the Preservation of Life and Liberty

PLEDGE

This Pledge has been carefully crafted to stand as a ‘line in the sand’. In its final paragraph, it states:

We declare that we will not comply with any regulation of the ACA wherein we are forced to pay for abortion or forced to willfully participate in the killing of innocent children.

In practicality, this means we will not choose an insurance policy that contains abortion funding, whether directly or indirectly, even to the point of choosing no insurance, at all. Furthermore, we support any citizen who chooses to act in peaceful protest, including non-violent civil disobedience, as the government has no authority to force us, as free citizens, to violate our conscience or forfeit our religious freedoms.

http://www.prolifenation.org/pledge/

Civil disobedience - St Thomas More

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a nationwide bulletin in June 2012, calling all American Catholics to prepare themselves to engage in civil disobedience to Obamacare. It’s brief and to the point:
